39: Chapter 35: Little Tricks_1 39: Chapter 35: Little Tricks_1 For so reason, Luo’er found the figure in front of him strangely familiar, but he couldn’t place who it was.

Dazed, Luo’er didn’t fire his gun as he instinctively might have, but instead, with the muzzle still pointed at the man, slowly moved towards him.

The old man seed to sense Luo’er’s presence and slowly turned around to face him.

Upon seeing the man’s face, Luo’er’s breath hitched.

He stared wide-eyed, disbelieving at the person in front of him and unconsciously lowered his gun.

It was his grandfather, Luo Qishan— a relationship he was unwilling to admit.

Despite Luo’er’s repeated refusal to acknowledge Luo Qishan as his grandfather, when Luo’er looked into his eyes, he was overco with fear.

He couldn’t shoot a family mber, no matter the circumstance.

This was a principle he had always held firm, for he didn’t want to lose any more family mbers, even if they were estranged.

“Aren’t you going to shoot?” Luo Qishan peered at him calmly and spoke with a poignant carelessness.

Despite being an AI, his manner of speaking still matched exactly with Luo Qishan’s.

“Why?” Luo’er stared at him, lost.

No matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t raise his hand to aim the gun at him.

A feeling of helplessness coursed through him.

Luo Qishan remained silent, just gazing quietly at Luo’er.

His gaze was full of warmth, it was the kind of gaze a grandfather would give his beloved grandson.

Such a gaze, however, made Luo’er feel utterly miserable.

He gritted his teeth trying ti and ti again to raise his gun, but to no avail.

“Heh, how amusing!”

All of a sudden, a sinister voice echoed in the room.

Before Luo’er could react, a shadow abruptly materialized behind Luo Qishan.

It was Zhuanzhu.

He glanced at Luo’er with a taunting gleam in his eyes, his dagger swiftly slashing across Luo Qishan’s throat.

In the blink of an eye, Luo Qishan’s throat had been slit wide open, and blood spurted out.

Luo’er stared wide-eyed, his mouth agape in shock as he watched Luo Qishan’s throat being severed.

Rage surged within him.

With a despairing and hoarse cry, he instinctively raised his gun and repeatedly pulled the trigger.

“Pupupu”

Zhuanzhu darted around with bizarre agility, causing all of Luo’er’s bullets to miss their mark.

He sped to the window, let out a malevolent laugh, then jumped out, leaving behind a homade high-explosive bomb.

The fuse on the bomb had already been lit.

Having run out of bullets, Luo’er turned to see a high-explosive bomb with a burning fuse.

He imdiately turned around and ran towards the door.

As soon as he got out, he ran into Tangmo, who was coming in to provide backup.

Without a second thought, he tackled her to the ground and covered her ears with his hands.

“Boom”

An enormous explosion ripped through the room, even the thick walls had been blown apart.

The shock wave gushed out from the doorway, rushing over the two of them.

It sent shivers down their spines and stirred up a cloud of dust.

“Cough, cough, cough” Luo’er got up, his ears ringing with a whining sound.

The violent shockwave left him feeling sowhat dizzy.

“Luo’er…” The protected Tangmo was unhard.

She got up and rushed to Luo’er, a look of concern spreading across her face.

“Let’s go…” Before Luo’er could finish, he began coughing violently, trying to suppress the nausea.

He took the assault rifle from Tangmo, unscrewed the silencer with great difficulty and tossed it aside, then took Tangmo by the hand and ran.

Clearly, the explosion had alerted everyone in the castle.

It was predictable that a large number of guards would be rushing towards their location, so they had to get out of there as quickly as possible.

They turned a corner in the corridor and were faced with a squad of heavily-ard guards.

Without hesitation, Luo’er flipped the safety off the rifle to automatic mode and shot directly at the guards’ waists.

“Dadadadada” The automatic rifle spewed deadly firepower towards the guards, but to his disappointnt, he had no magic-breaking bullets, and most of the guards’ armors were second-level defenses with inlaid magic crystals.

Therefore, the bullets only sparked off their armors, causing no significant damage.

“I’ve got this!” Tangmo stepped up, raising her magic wand and reciting spells.

She cast a fireball towards the guards, which exploded, blasting a large hole in the wooden floor and stopping the guards in their tracks.

“Let’s go!” Seeing the guards obstructed, Luo’er wasted no ti in pulling Tangmo away and running.

They dashed through the long corridor only to end up in a spacious hall that was already surrounded by guards and magicians.

Upon sight of them, the magicians called upon their magic to attack.

Tangmo stood at the front, reciting spells to activate a magic shield, fending off the magicians’ attacks.

The guards around them then closed in.

Luo’er quickly replaced the magazine and fired at the enemies closing in from all sides.

Although the weapon in his hand was powerful, he was outnumbered by the opposition.

This made him feel desperate.

The guards raised their shields, etched with intricate defense runes.

Behind the shields, magic crystals supplied power, maximizing the potency of the defense runes.

The dium caliber bullets only managed to leave shallow indentation marks on the shields.

Soon, Luo’er’s bullets had run out.

Faced with the guards and magicians surrounding them, he felt a sense of utmost despair.

“Luo’er, what should we do?” Noticing that they were almost completely worn out, the magicians halted their attacks, and Tangmo also deactivated her shield.

She turned around, breathing heavily, and asked Luo’er despondently.

“I’m sorry…”

So saying, Luo’er loaded a new magazine into his pistol and disengaged the safety.

He took Tangmo into his arms, pressed the muzzle against her temple, and pulled the trigger.

“Bang”

Tangmo shuddered and collapsed onto him.

Luo’er gritted his teeth, aid the muzzle under his chin, and pulled the trigger once more.

“Bang”

The two of them weakly collapsed onto the ground, marking their first defeat in the finals.

Having been transported to the square, Luo’er hung his head in guilt and couldn’t bear to look at Tangmo.

Tangmo just looked at him blankly, then reached out to take his hand.

“I’m sorry!” Luo’er apologized softly.

“It’s all right,” Tangmo shook his head, comforting him, “I knew Luo’er would do this, so I was ntally prepared.”

“It’s not about that…” Luo’er began to speak, but imdiately before them, the other three mbers of their team appeared.

Seeing the two dispirited individuals, they did not dare to speak, simply remaining silent, their faces expressing apology.

“The failure of this competition is entirely my fault.” Luo’er said with his head held low.

“Um…” Hu Daoke wanted to say so encouraging words, but didn’t know what to say.

“Planning to take all the bla yourself?” Cheng Ziang scratched his head, a face of displeasure was apparent, but his guilt was also evident.

Even though he had killed two of the enemy’s team mbers during the match, Luo’er and Tangmo had been ‘killed in action’, making these achievents worthless.

“You’re also responsible, you aren’t allowed to go off on your own in the next competition!” Luo’er said coldly, then bowed his head even more.

He was tugging at his hair with both hands, appearing extrely distressed.

“I couldn’t remove the target in ti, which led to the opponent’s victory.

This is entirely my fault, and I will reflect on it.” Luo’er said softly, then his voice elevated, “In the next competition, you all need to be fully focused, I don’t want to see dissent and individual combat anymore!”

“I’m sorry, Luo’er…” Tangmo lowered her head, even though she didn’t know what she had done wrong, as the team’s captain, she still felt responsible.

“Everyone take a break, I have so matters to attend to.” Luo’er said after calming his emotions a bit, then disappeared from the Virtual Battlefield.

Seeing him leave, Wang Xu sensed sothing was wrong.

He didn’t continue to watch the competition, and left the Virtual Battlefield himself, striding toward the academy’s administrative building.

Leaving the virtual reality machine, Luo’er had gone straight to the administrative building.

He walked up from the ground floor to the Principal’s office on the seventh floor.

Many people watched him break in, yet no one stopped him.

“Luo’er, calm down.” Outside the Principal’s office, Wang Xu had arrived in the corridor one step ahead.

He stretched out his hand to stop Luo’er, “Don’t be impulsive.”

“Is he in there?” Luo’er asked coldly, staring at the office door.

“This…” Wang Xu turned his head to glance at the door, his face showed a look of awkwardness, and he hesitated to speak.

Luo’er couldn’t wait for him to open his mouth.

He went around Wang Xu, instinctively pulled out the gun from his waist, and then withdrew the magazine as he walked toward the office.

Wang Xu tried to stop him, but eventually, he held back.

He believed in his own judgnt.

Therefore, he didn’t try to take the weapon from Luo’er’s hand but instead clenched his fist and followed behind him.

“Bang”

Luo’er kicked open the office door and walked in.

Luo Qishan was sitting in front of the office desk.

He was not surprised by Luo’er’s arrival, but the handgun in Luo’er’s hand unnerved him.

“It was you who was behind it, wasn’t it?” Luo’er asked, holding back his anger.

“What?” Luo Qishan feigned ignorance.

“The competition!” Luo’er raised his voice.

“Yes!” Luo Qishan admitted without hesitation.

“Why?”

“Don’t you know?” Luo Qishan managed to ask calmly.

“For over twenty years, you still can’t let go, can you?

Let go.” Luo’er looked at him, with a pleading tone.

“For you, have these past twenty years been a form of imprisonnt?” Upon hearing Luo’er’s words, Luo Qishan’s voice began to waver a little.

“Yes!” Luo’er answered firmly.

“Can’t you stay?” Luo Qishan’s breathing beca more and more ragged, his hands even began to tremble.

“No!” Luo’er rejected him rcilessly.

“You…” Luo Qishan bent forward, placing a hand on his forehead.

He took a few deep breaths, allowing his breathing to slowly calm down.

Then looking at the gun in Luo’er’s hand, he said, “Are you planning to kill ?

With that gun in your hand, just like in the competition…”

“No,” Luo’er said stepping forward.

He picked up the picture fra of Luo Chuan from the table, held it out in front of him and with gritted teeth said, “Look at him, this is your son Luo Chuan.

On his deathbed, he entrusted his son to you.

If he knew his son had died in front of you would he…

forgive you?”

Luo’er spoke, slowly raising the handgun.

The muzzle pointed to his own temple.

His face was full of desperation as he stared at Luo Qishan with resolute eyes.

“You…” Luo Qishan didn’t expect Luo’er would pressure him in this way.

His previously cald breath beca disrupted as he began coughing mid sentence.

“I don’t want to lose any more family mbers, but you don’t want to lose your last kin either, do you?” Luo’er stared at him, speaking through gritted teeth.

“Are you really going to be that ruthless?” Luo Qishan asked, his expression pained, sounding like he was begging.

“You forced !” Luo’er said through gritted teeth.
