28: Chapter 25: Selection Competition 28: Chapter 25: Selection Competition Three days after the graduation exam ends, the team greets a more lively Advance Team selection competition.
Although so teams are not interested in the places in the Advance Team, they still intend to join in the fun and experience the thrill of battling other academy teams.
As Luo’er and the others’ match was in the morning, the group arrived early at the Virtual Machine Room.
It had been developed as an examination hall, with a small independent cubicle consisting of five virtual machines to prevent influencing students on the virtual battlefield.
Accustod to their deep sleep, the group quickly found themselves once again in the hall of the Virtual Battlefield.
Many teams had already gathered in the square, everyone rubbing their hands in anticipation of an exciting competition.
The form of the competition was decided through a draw.
Tangmo casually opened an option and a line of text popped up: Direct confrontation between teams.
“Heh, this is going to be lively!” Hu Daoke couldn’t help but slap Cheng Ziang’s shoulder with glee upon seeing the result.
The latter fended off his large hand in dissatisfaction and rubbed his shoulder.
The competition soon started officially, and the five of them were quickly teleported to the battlefield.
This was an ancient ruin located deep in a dense forest, where long vines concealed the historical traces on brick walls.
“What should we do?” Tangmo asked Luo’er.
After pondering for a mont, Luo’er said, “Let’s employ tactic 311.
Here the visibility is poor, and there are no high vantage points to oversee the whole situation.
It’s safer with three of us together.
Yue’er and Ziang should scatter around us but not get too far away.
Stay within a supportable distance within a minute.”
“Got it!” The two nodded.
“With the limited visibility here, everyone should choose their weapons carefully, and beware of the weapons your teammates use.
Make sure not to engage in friendly fire.” Luo’er waved his AK47 rifle and said.
“Understood!” Hu Daoke waved his M249 light machine gun in reply and muttered, “Why do I feel like you’re singling out?”
“Hmm, what’s up?” Luo’er asked.
“Nothing, just aim and fire straight ahead!” Hu Daoke dismissed with a wave of his hand.
“Hmm!” Luo’er nodded and continued, “Currently, we don’t know the weapons and tactical configuration of the opposing team.
So, it is very likely that both sides may use the sa weapon.
So everyone must pay attention to the position of your teammates to avoid instances of friendly fire.”
“Mainly you have to watch out for !” Cheng Ziang pulled out his shiny ring neck dagger, laid it on his shoulder, and pointed to himself.
He then made a faint remark to Hu Daoke.
“You run so fast, you think my bullets can catch up?” Hu Daoke counterattacked unconvinced.
“Enough, get into formation, proceed with the search!” Luo’er waved his hand to interrupt the two’s squabble, raised his rifle, and began to move.
“Co to think of it, this damn place is so vast.
How are we supposed to find those guys?” Hu Daoke turned around and asked suddenly, holding his light machine gun.
Luo’er didn’t turn his head back, he took out a portable display from his waist and shook it in front of him.
The display projected a map of this area, and a white circle appeared on it.
“Oh, a battle royale mode, I thought it was sothing new!” Hu Daoke dismissed with a scoff.
“Moumou, stay alert and use magic to protect us at tis!” Luo’er moved his gun cautiously, scanning around as he spoke.
“Got it!” Tangmo nodded, her left hand held the Magic Wand while supporting her right hand which held the handgun.
In the face of this combat situation and such a division of work, Luo’er felt less confident.
Upon entering, their wireless communication had been cancelled, disabling real-ti efficient communication.
Now everyone was back in an age where communication depended on shouting which put a lot of trouble on him commanding the team.
His current main concern isn’t defeating opponents but preventing friendly fire.
But thinking from another angle, the other side couldn’t be much better off.
After all, modern infantry warfare still heavily relies on information flow.
Without real-ti communication, they can only use the most primitive thods to collect battlefield intelligence and command the team.
Luo’er slowly opened the rifle bolt, pushing a bullet into the chamber.
He whistled and gestured for everyone to check their weapons, hinting everyone to inspect the status of their weapons.
So as not to interfere with his collection of battlefield intelligence, Luo’er asked everyone to maintain quiet, only directing the n through hand signals.
Then, he took a look at the display.
This was his only still functioning electronic device.
At this mont, the white circle on the map had shrunk again, and they had to speed up to get inside the next circle.
The ruins were filled with alternating stone pillars and walls.
They carefully advanced, carefully inspecting every corner a potential enemy might jump out from.
After passing through severely damaged ruins, they slowly arrived at a relatively spacious place.
Within thirty seconds from their location stands a Mayan style pyramid that is more than ten ters high, filled with moss.
Luo’er pulled out the display and took a look.
The map showed that they had already entered the safe zone.
The next safe zone refreshed to appear right beneath their feet.
Luo’er had a feeling that they were about to co in direct contact with the enemy.
Just as he was thinking, suddenly there was a burst of gunfire in the distance, and quickly a row of bullets whizzed past him.
Sweat broke out on Luo’er as he quickly rolled to hide behind a low wall, holding his helt.
“Did you see them?” Luo’er shouted to Hu Daoke and Tangmo, who took cover in a corner at the sa ti.
“I’m not sure, but judging from the gunshots, they should be about a hundred ters away!” Hu Daoke huddled up, clutching his machine gun.
“Moumou, activate your shield, stand up and locate their positions!” Luo’er, who was leaning against a low wall, ordered Tangmo.
“Understood!” Initially flustered, Tangmo imdiately regained her composure upon hearing Luo’er’s command.
She muttered her spells, instantly activating a second-level magic shield, before standing up imdiately.
“Da-da-da-da-da!!!”
A burst of intensive gunshots rang out from the distance.
Judging by the sound, the shots were likely from a suppressive weapon like a machine gun.
However, the bullets fired at Tangmo’s shield had no effect and were reflected away by the arched shield.
Stray bullets flew all over the place, so even hitting the low wall Luo’er was leaning against, leaving a white dent on the moss-covered wall.
Luo’er broke out into a cold sweat.
He also learned a lesson on how to use magic shields: he should not cast it while standing behind his teammates as the ricocheting bullets pose a lethal threat to those in front of the shield.
“Machine gunner, thirteen o’clock direction, about a hundred and thirty ters away!” Under Luo’er’s training, Tangmo had beco proficient in reporting the enemy’s location.
“Got it!” Luo’er hunched over and slowly moved along the base of the wall.
After moving roughly ten ters, he switched his rifle to automatic mode.
Holding the gun above his head, he extended his firearm out of cover and fired towards the general direction Tangmo had reported.
“Da-da-da-da-da!”
After emptying a magazine, he was t with the enemy’s fierce retaliation.
Fortunately, the low wall he was hiding behind was constructed of stones, which effectively blocked the bullets.
“Little Ke, return their fire!” commanded Luo’er, his intent clear.
The goal was to divert the enemy’s fire toward himself to provide the machine gunner an opportunity to suppress enemy fire.
“Understood!” Hu Daoke steadied himself, lifting the light machine gun onto the barrier, and began to fire short bursts in the direction Tangmo reported.
“Da-da-da, da-da-da, da-da-da…” Under Hu Daoke’s relentless firing, the enemy’s vicious attack was soon suppressed.
“Luo’er, do you want to rush over with the shield up?” Tangmo squatted down and asked him.
“Not for now.
We don’t know the positions of all of their n yet, so we could easily be surrounded!” answered Luo’er, with a calm deanor.
Suddenly, from a position about ten ters to the left of the enemy machine gunner, a trail of sparks appeared followed by sothing with a fiery tail swiftly flying towards Hu Daoke.
As soon as he saw it, his hairs stood on end.
He instinctively dropped his machine gun and threw himself onto the ground, screaming.
“RPG!!!!”
With a thunderous explosion and a flash of light, a rocket hit the stone-made cover that Hu Daoke was hiding behind.
The seemingly solid barrier instantly disintegrated into fragnts, scattering high-speed projectiles everywhere and clouding the area with dust.
However, the mont the explosion occurred, Tangmo rolled over to Hu Daoke, activated her shield in ti and deflected the deadly stone fragnts, saving Hu Daoke, who was covering his head on the ground.
Luo’er had not expected the enemy to carry such powerful equipnt.
He loaded a new magazine, switched his gun to semi-automatic mode, and started firing towards the direction the rocket ca from.
However, before he could fire many shots, he was heavily suppressed by the enemy machine gunner and was forced to huddle behind the low wall with his gun.
“Are you okay?” Luo’er shouted.
“Damn, that was close!” Hu Daoke got up, waved his hand, and said, still shaken.
“I’m glad you’re okay!” After making sure he was unhard, Tangmo finally breathed a sigh of relief, and turned off the protective shield spell.
“Thank you, Sister Moumou!” Hu Daoke said gratefully.
“You’re my brother.
It’s what I should do!” Tangmo replied, matter-of-factly.
“Can you still use your gun?” Luo’er interrupted their conversation.
Hu Daoke inspected the light machine gun, which was buried under the fragnts of the stone wall.
The machine gun was severely damaged and basically useless.
“No can do!” Hu Daoke discarded his light machine gun and drew a pistol from his thigh holster.
“Damn!
Where have those two gone?
We can’t withstand firepower of such magnitude!” Luo’er felt a tinge of regret.
To make the most out of the team’s advantage in magic and technology, he didn’t allow his teammates to carry more infantry support firepower, leaving them on the defensive when faced with the enemy’s strong suppressive firepower.
Now, all he could hope for was that Cheng Ziang and Baiyue would be able to make so headway.
And pray that the enemy did not have a second RPG.
