Chapter 1702: Chapter 1695: Sheyan

Changyi froze in place, cold sweat breaking out all over his body, but he still gritted his teeth and forced a smile: “Don’t threaten . I’m the backbone of the Heterogeneous Hall. If you harm , the Young Mansion won’t let you off.”

“Since when would the Young Mansion care about a castrated dog?” Hun Jiansi retorted coldly with a mocking tone.

“Argue, argue, the mont you et all you do is argue. I really don’t understand what you’re even arguing about.”

From the corner, an aged, sighing voice echoed. Monts later, a frail old woman hobbled into view. Her back was hunched, she wore a peculiar hood, and supported herself with a walking stick as she slowly approached the group.

At her appearance, not only Hun Jiansi but even Changyi revealed a look of fear.

A strange and ominous aura surrounded the old woman, and the faint, dusky purple mist clouding her made her identity even more mysterious.

“Even the Ghost Hag has shown up. Is the Heterogeneous Hall planning to unleash their full force?” Hun Jiansi couldn’t help but react emotionally upon seeing the newcor.

The old woman, whom she addressed as Ghost Hag, was a renowned master of the Poison Path in Jianghu, adept at crafting all kinds of poisons with uncanny skill. No one knew how she administered poison, but wherever she passed, countless corpses were left in her wake.

No one knew the origins of the Ghost Hag, nor her exact age. So said she was a descendant of the Ghost Race, while others claid she was the wife of a Ghost Race mber. Regardless, there was no doubt that she had deep ties to the Ghost Race, and the word “ghost” in her na originated from that connection.

“Hehehe, it’s not just people from the Heterogeneous Hall here,” the Ghost Hag chuckled, her grin disturbingly eerie.

“So that ans…” Hun Jiansi exclaid in shock.

“The Anxiang family wants to intercept the targets. The Young Lord wants us to extract them at all costs!”

A cold male voice rang out from the shadowy eaves at the end of the alley. The trio turned toward the sound and saw a tall, slender man standing there, wearing a wide-brimd bamboo hat, his head lowered in a pensive posture.

“Sheyan, it’s actually Sheyan…” Hun Jiansi murmured through clenched teeth, unable to suppress her astonishnt.

Her surprise stemd from the fact that the man nad Sheyan wasn’t from the Heterogeneous Hall, nor Lieying Tang, nor even the Emperor’s Sect. He was a Shadow Guard, hailing from one of the great families.

As a Shadow Guard, his combat ability went without saying. Late Jiedan Realm was the basic requirent, and being Dual Dao ant he was exceptionally outstanding.

In the Jianghu of the East Prosperity Nine States, cultivators made up roughly 30-40% of the population, but truly exceptional individuals were as rare as phoenix feathers. Spending a lifeti roaming the Jianghu, one might never encounter more than a few high-level cultivators, let alone dual cultivators.

The Advance Team’s fortune lay not in luck but inevitability. From the mont they left the Wuyun Sect, their journey was destined to be extraordinary. Every move they made was closely observed by both the Wen and Wu families.

Those deed worthless wouldn’t even warrant the sun’s rays, while those of value were subjected to an unrelenting, all-encompassing scrutiny. This was why the Advance Team frequently crossed paths with high-level cultivators.

Though Shadow Guards were strong, their secretive nature kept them out of Jianghu rankings. These individuals were usually raised and trained by great families from a young age, pledging their lives to their patriarchs, without ever participating in Jianghu rankings, which shrouded them in an inherent mystery.

“Have the people from Lieying Tang not shown up?” Hun Jiansi asked, taking a deep breath and staring at Sheyan.

“Lieying Tang would be too conspicuous here and invite trouble,” Sheyan said flatly.

“So the Young Mansion sent you instead?”

“Who else could the Young Lord trust but ?” Sheyan replied with a question.

A mont of silence fell over the scene. Eventually, Sheyan continued, “I heard you’ve grown close to that man. I suggest you watch yourself.”

“Heard? Don’t use hearsay to dictate my actions. I’m the sole inheritor of the Fog Concealnt Skill; no one understands it better than I do. I know exactly what I’m doing,” Hun Jiansi replied fearlessly, eting his gaze.

“That’s for the best. If the Young Lord’s plans are ruined…” Sheyan said.

“If the Young Mansion’s plans are ruined, I will answer to him personally. There’s no need for you to remind —I know how to do my job,” Hun Jiansi said boldly.

“That’s for the best,” Sheyan nodded silently in agreent.

Despite his na, Sheyan was actually a rather reserved and quiet man.

“Ah Si has beco much bolder recently. It seems love not only nourishes the body but also the heart,” the Ghost Hag chuckled mischievously.

“Ghost Hag, don’t talk nonsense. I…” Hun Jiansi blushed furiously, turning her head to glare at her in mock exasperation.

“I understand, I understand. This old woman has been through it all. I can tell just by looking at you whether you’ve, shall we say, crossed the line,” the Ghost Hag teased with a sly laugh. “But, girl, rember this: love is three parts poison. Don’t let it consu you entirely.”

“I know my limits…” Hun Jiansi mumbled, lowering her head reluctantly.

“So you’ve fallen for that man, huh? No wonder you’re so close to him. The Young Mansion sent you to monitor them, yet you’re willingly getting too involved. Truly ridiculous and hard to fathom,” Changyi muttered in a slightly bitter tone, his voice tinged with jealousy.

“You like dogs; I like people. Of course, we can’t understand each other,” Hun Jiansi retorted sharply, completely ignoring the jealousy in Changyi’s words.

“Enough, both of you,” Sheyan interrupted their bickering.

He stepped forward, lightly touched his toes to the ground, and descended gracefully like a kite, landing softly on the earth. Fixing his gaze on Hun Jiansi, he asked, “Tell , do the saints refuse to leave, or is it that the Anxiang family won’t let them go?”

“Both,” Hun Jiansi replied after a mont of thought.

“Explain,” Sheyan instructed.

“It’s obvious the Anxiang family doesn’t want them to leave. They’re the Wu Family’s hounds—whatever the Wu Family orders, they’ll carry out diligently…”

She paused before continuing, “Furthermore, the saints seem very interested in so old grievances in this region. They want to investigate thoroughly before leaving.”

“Over a hundred scumbags dead, what’s there to investigate?” Changyi interjected impatiently.

“Are you sure this isn’t just an excuse to stall?” Sheyan pressed further.

“I don’t think so,” Hun Jiansi shook her head. “After all, they’re outsiders—naturally, they’d be curious about many aspects of the Nine States. Isn’t that human nature? They’re educated, respectable people, curious about the world. Even the Wen Family is like that.”

“Hmph,” Sheyan snorted coldly. “The trivial matter of Star-shattering isn’t worth investigating. Isn’t the truth already evident?”

“Do you know who it is?” Hun Jiansi asked, a hint of excitent in her voice.

“To kill over a hundred cultivators in three years—soone of such skill can easily be identified by systematically scrutinizing the experts in Guyi Governnt. Even the most implausible result would still be the truth,” Sheyan replied coldly.

“So you’re saying…”

“Our real threat is the Anxiang family, who refuse to let them leave. The Heterogeneous Hall’s mission this ti is to safely escort the saints and others out. Anyone who dares to obstruct us—eliminate them without hesitation,” Sheyan declared.

“Where are the others from the Heterogeneous Hall?” Hun Jiansi glanced around curiously.

“The others are already setting things up,” Sheyan explained. “This is Wu Family territory; we can’t make a scene. We can only resort to underhanded tactics. The people you can’t handle, I’ll take care of.”

“It seems the Young Mansion is getting serious,” Hun Jiansi said, her emotions stirring.

“The saints are the key to whether the Imperial Court can march east and whether the Wen Family can triumph. No mistakes are allowed,” Sheyan murmured, gazing up at the sky.

“Is the sky about to change…” Hun Jiansi followed his gaze, speaking wistfully.

“The era of the Wu Family will eventually co to an end. As for you outsiders, you should be glad about that,” Sheyan said slowly after a mont of silence.
