Watching the kids get ready for school the following day, Jett found it odd that the nanny had brought the children’s uniforms on such short notice.

After all, like Kelsie said, the ceiling had only caved in in the guest bathroom. It really posed no threat to them, yet the nanny ca out of the building so prepared?

And she didn’t just co out with their uniform, she ca out with everything: their shoes, socks, school bags, lunchboxes, the books they needed for the day.

No matter how he tried to look at it, it seed too planned. Like she knew what was coming and took everything in preparation for today.

Unable to keep it in any longer, he walked into the children’s room and stood across from Kelsie.

"She’s good with the kids, I know. But unless she has superpowers, how could she be so prepared for everything? She didn’t miss a single thing they would need today."

Kelsie, who was knotting Keira’s tie, lowered her eyes at the suspicion laced in his voice.

"Well, she prepares for anything. She was like this even abroad and always knew what to do when a situation arose."

That was the truth.

So she didn’t understand why her guilt intensified after saying that.

However, the man suddenly walked to stop in front of her, lowering his head to stare into her face.

Kelsie thinned her lips, growing still as he peered into her soul.

This continued for several seconds before she laughed nervously. "What? Why are you looking at like that?"

"Nothing. I just find everything too strange."

Kelsie narrowed her eyes at him.

How quickly she forgot guilt would be eating away at him too. After all, he lied about the roof caving in when it didn’t.

But If he confessed his lie, she’d have no choice but to tell him everything.

Or perhaps... was he worried knowing it didn’t co from him, especially given how Keira was recently kidnapped?

"To tell you the truth, the floor never caved in," he admitted. "That was just my excuse to move in with you. I figured if the floor caved in and I suggested rging our floors, you’d naturally agree—since there wasn’t much choice."

"But if sothing really did happen to your roof and it wasn’t , then I fear we should tackle it since it might be the sa person who..."

"I did it." Kelsie cut in, squeezing her eyes shut in exhaustion.

"I also thought it’d be nice if you moved in, but given how you left the Adler family mansion, you just seem like a man who prefers his own space, so I never brought it up."

"When I heard you co up with that ridiculous lie, I realized you were intentionally hinting at it."

"So I acted clueless to distract you and called Daniel, asked him to block your number, and sent Eric to help him out. Daniel had his eyes on everyone in the house when he caved in the roof of the guest’s toilet."

"Now, I know you’re upset over what I did, but I wanted to surprise you in—uh, what are you doing?"

She trailed off, staggering backward in surprise when she peeled her eyes open to see him grinning widely at her.

The man said nothing and inched toward her.

She frowned and stepped back again.

"You’re seriously freaking out with that very wide smile. I didn’t even know your cheeks could stretch like that."

Jett chuckled and embraced her once he got closer.

She embraced him in return, her brows rising in confusion.

"You don’t have to be so scary. Daniel told the floor are pretty expensive. Is that why you’re so upset and forcing yourself to grin so widely?"

"I’m not upset. I’m grinning because I’m proud of you for surprising and outwitting at my own plan." The man chuckled, his voice reverberating against her back.

"No surprises there. I’ve always been smarter." Kelsie shrugged in relief, patting him on the back.

The door opened at that mont, and Keira popped into their view.

Her eyes t with Jett’s and she froze at the sight in their room.

The corners of her mouth twitched, and a hint of hesitation flickered in her eyes.

A mont later, she bead and stepped into the room.

Strutting toward them, she hugged Jett’s leg tightly before looking up at him.

"Daddy, making my little brother will have to wait. Mommy has to take us to school this morning."

Kelsie and Jett glanced at each other before awkwardly pulling apart.

"I know you’re in the phase where you say a lot of things, but why would you think I’m having another kid? Three of you are enough." Kelsie sighed as she helped Keira with her tie.

"Mommy is right. You already have more siblings than I do." Jett chid in agreent.

The little girl thinned her lips and scratched the back of her head in recollection.

"I don’t know. Jesse said you both spend so much ti with each other because you’re preparing to give us a sibling."

"Zade agreed to. He says that was probably why you ca back the other day saying you didn’t get enough sleep."

Jett and Kelsie exchanged knowing glances.

Kelsie patted her head gently, "Don’t listen to a word they’re saying, okay?"

"I don’t know, I think it’s a good..." Keira, who was already looking forward to having more siblings, didn’t back down and planned to convince her mother when Kelsie threw a stern glance her way.

"Keira Sutton, shut it."

Jett, who was also planning to convince her, saw how she snapped at Keira and promptly changed his mind.

Ten minutes later, he got ready and was driven to work by Eric whilst she drove them to school.

As soon as he was the only one, Daniel ca out of his room to the living room.

He connected his ga to the television and blocked his ears with headphones, getting reading to spend the next few hours playing.

anwhile, Kelsie got to Aventis Academy.

Because she was running late, she just dropped them off to their respective classes and drove off, making a ntal note to call the school later and find out why they were several parents and teachers clustered outside the building.

Two minutes before she reached her practice, she got pulled over by an officer on a revving motorcycle.

She had observed every traffic sign, didn’t speed, and drove in one lane. So she didn’t exactly know why she was being pulled over.

But recalling this could just be a routine check on random vehicles, she slowed down and pulled to a stop by the side of the road.

It wasn’t until she shut off the engine that she heard the sudden roaring of vehicle engines behind her.

"Kelsie Sutton, carefully step out of the vehicle and put your hands behind your head!" A voice suddenly barked from a distance.

She frowned and glanced in the side view mirror.

The officer who had been pursuing her on the motorcycle was now holding up a microphone.

Behind him were four police vehicles.

As she watched, four officers from each vehicle stepped out and positioned themselves behind her car, their guns drawn.

"Kelsie Sutton, you have thirty seconds to leave the car or we will begin shooting!" The officer barked again, his brows knitting into a tight frown when he caught her looking from her side view mirror.

Stunned, she didn’t move and observed them quietly.

Even if she did break a traffic rule, was that enough to have sixteen officers have their weapons aid at her like she was so escaped convict?

"Twenty seconds left! If you don’t leave the car before the ti elapses, we will throw caution to the wind and begin firing!"

"10, 9, 8..."

Being shot at was the last thing she wanted—and she wasn’t about to go down for sothing she didn’t even understand.

Maybe soone had used her identity to rob a store?

A thousand possibilities flooded her mind before she finally braces herself and opened the door.

Placing both hands on the back of her head, she turned and shouted, "I want my lawyer!"

Three officers rushed her imdiately, pressing her down and snapping handcuffs around her wrists.

"Of course you do. They’re the only ones who can save you from such a heinous cri." One of them spat while another began to read her her rights.

"Kelsie Sutton, you are hereby arrested on charges of aiding and abetting, kidnapping, and first-degree murder."

"Everything you say or do can be used against you in a court of law. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be provided for you. Do you understand these rights as I’ve read them to you?"

Kelsie was silent for a mont before she humd, craning her neck to stare at the officer leading her to one of the vans, "I do. But I haven’t done any of those you ntioned?"

At this, the officer who made the snarky remark earlier, sneered, "You an, you don’t count what you did to Charlotte Hasting as murder?"
