Kelsie promptly got on her feet, taking a few steps towards the crew mber when soone waltzed past her, almost shoving her out of the way as she reached for the matte box.
Gripping the box tightly, the woman’s eyes flashed In irritation.
"Kelsie Sutton? When did soone with that na get into this set?"
"It’s my first ti hearing of her too, but people from the hospital ca today. It must be one of them." The crew mber said perfunctorily.
The words had just rolled off her tongue when Kelsie spoke softly, "It’s . I’m Kelsie Sutton. I was going to introduce myself once everyone got here."
The crew mber turned to look at her, eyes widening in astonishnt and hands flying to cover her widened mouth as she gushed, "Ah, you must be the model who’d be joining this episode!"
"Are you daft? Will a model wear a doctor’s lab coat?" An irritated Lila Reed snapped at the crew mber, instantly recognizing Kelsie.
She’d recognize the woman who stole Jett from her from a distance.
How dare this pretentious woman co here!
The crew mber paused, "What do you an, Ms. Reed?"
She had worked with models in the past and knew most of them had to make an entrance by wearing either absurd or trendy clothes.
Besides, the model coming today was to play the role of a hot doctor whom the male lead t at a bar.
It was a scene of just a few minutes, but long enough to show how he couldn’t stand other won.
Looking at Kelsie, she was perfect for the role!
Kelsie spared Lila a brief glance before going ahead to introduce herself, "I’m Kelsie Sutton. I was sent here by Haven dical Center to attend to any injuries you might have while filming."
"You’re a doctor? I know there are handso and pretty doctors, but I’ve never seen soone so attractive." The crew mber mumbled incoherently, shalessly ogling Kelsie.
However, she was standing right beside Lila, hence, the woman heard every word she said and was further irritated.
Smacking her lips, she scoffed, "I’m sure it’s makeup. You wear makeup, don’t you, Dr. Sutton?"
Kelsie finally concluded Lila was in a bad mood. Otherwise, why would soone she had never t before be so hostile towards her?
Whatever the case, she had better things to do than banter with strangers, so she just nodded, "Occasionally."
"Thought as much." Lila sneered, lowering her eyes to the matte box.
Kelsie didn’t care enough to ask why Lila was being hostile towards her and just pointed at the matte box in her grip.
"I believe that’s mine."
Lila paused, pressing her lips into a thin line as she lifted her head.
She could tell from a distance it was quite expensive. And presently, she was the only one in the filming set who received such expensive-looking boxes.
Having Kelsie receive sothing like this on her first day was rightfully getting on her nerves.
Handing the box over to Kelsie, she suddenly gasped, "I’ve finally realized why I found you familiar."
"I’ve never t you before." Kelsie pointedly retorted, turning around to leave when Lila’s next words stopped her.
"Oh, co on. It was you during the party hosted by Haven dical Center. If I rember correctly, you were accompanied by another male doctor, but when Jett Adler and Serbian Howard began fawning over you, you totally paid no attention to your date."
The production set was large and too spacious for everyone in the room to hear her, especially with them speaking in low voices.
Behind them, Holly leaned forward, the unsettling feeling that sothing was about to happen swelling in her mind, especially when the smile hovering on Lila Reed’s face wouldn’t fade.
Actors and actresses had a talent for crafting fake smiles so convinving, they seed entirely real.
But as soone who had worked on various production sets and watched quite a number of dramas unfold, she knew from a distance sothing was about to happen and got up.
As she got closer to them, Lila was saying amidst insincere laughter, "There’s no need to be shy. You must’ve buttered up to him since his family has the largest share in Haven dical Center."
"As long as you got a job after that evening, shalessly buttering up to him wasn’t for nothing."
In an instant, the crew mber’s look of admiration faded, turning into disgust.
"You got a job as a doctor by buttering up to Jett Adler? Are we safe at all? It’s okay if you butter up to rich n as a celebrity, but it’s not right to do the sa just because you have a pretty face and other qualified people who have better talents, don’t."
She burned from such righteous indignation that after dropping her piece of mind, she turned to saunter off, but Lila laughed again and gently gripped her by the arm.
"Don’t be in such a hurry to leave. Dr. Sutton must’ve done that, but from what I hear, she’s actually a good doctor."
Successfully getting her to stay with those words, Lila’s envious eyes settled on the matte box again.
"I hear the director of the hospital, Kelvin Reynolds, has his eyes on you. So, did he send you that box or is it from another rich man you’re going after now?"
"I’ve always heard of how soft-spoken and reasonable you are when you speak, should I take it I t you at the wrong ti or is this just your true color?" Holly snickered instead, walking to stand beside Kelsie.
Lila’s eyes flashed with fury, parting her lips to say sothing when the crew mber glared at Holly.
"You don’t even know what we’re talking about, how dare you butt in? Seeing how you’re defending her without knowing what this is about, she must’ve found a way to get you in too!"
Seeing soone getting angry in her stead, Lila swallowed her anger and turned to her with a small smile, "Calm down, Tonia. Dr. Sutton isn’t that bad. So getting her into the hospital wasn’t a bad investnt at all."
"But, Ms. Sutton, I really want to know the truth and I’m certain Tonia wants the sa. Jett Adler tossed you aside after using you, didn’t he?"
"I, for a fact, know he’s not a man to send flimsy gifts like this. He doesn’t even have the ti to think of a woman. So who did you leech onto this ti? Is it really Mr. Reynolds?"
"He may be twice your age, if not more, but I promise not to judge you. All I want is the truth."
Kelsie’s brows creased thoughtfully, zoning out of the conversation and absent-mindedly trying to wrap her head around why this woman she had never t before was trying so hard to humiliate her.
Hearing how she kept ntioning Jett Adler, Kelsie figured it out seconds later.
She snapped her fingers in realization, cheeks drawing back into a knowing smile.
"Mr. Adler and I maintain a professional relationship, Ms. Reed. As one of the few doctors generating the most inco for Haven dical Center, it shouldn’t surprise you that he’s keeping close."
Ah, it was her!
She had overheard a few things during the party that day and soone had ntioned sothing about a certain Lila Reed being head-over-heels in-love with Jett Adler.
A month ago, Kelsie would’ve been unbothered knowing this, but now, she felt strangely displeased.
What? Head-over-heels in-love with Jett Adler? How nauseating!
Lila mistook the jealousy in Kelsie’s eyes for arrogance and trembled all over in rage, pointing a shaky finger at her nose.
"No need to be so arrogant about it! You’ll only be the hospital’s best doctor for a few years before they get soone else. Then he’ll toss you to the ends of the earth."
"But don’t feel too bad about it, that’s just how both our industries are. It’s inevitable. No matter how talented you are, they’ll always be soone better."
Contrary to how the three people around expected how to react, Kelsie didn’t get offended and instead chuckled.
"That’s where you’ve got it all wrong, Ms. Reed. I never said I’m the best doctor, but there’ll never be a better doctor than . The entertainnt industry, however, changes all the ti."
The crew mber abruptly sucked in a deep breath, her shaky eyes darting towards Lila whose face had turned beet red.
"Hah!" Holly’s loud laughter filled their ears.
Soone alighted from the backstage at this mont, hurrying towards Kelsie when he sighted her lab coat.
"Excuse , doctor, a crew mber is running temperature backstage."
She didn’t waste anymore ti with Lila and left with him.
"What? She buttered up to Jett Adler and that’s how she got her job? So is that how she was also able to beco the hospital’s money machine?"
"How co it didn’t occur to you soone as skilled as that is the kind of person Haven dical Center goes after. How annoying!"
Lila was rendered speechless as Holly huffed and walked past her, almost brushing shoulders with her.
But she had just taken a few steps forward when she stopped and turned to Lila again.
"How bold of you to say that about Dr. Sutton when you’re the one who ets with different n every night! Yes, I live opposite a hotel and I see you sneaking out of it every morning!"
Holly had practically shouted, drawing the attention of everyone on set.
Under their sudden, scorching gaze, Lila felt as if she had swallowed a fly.
