That night, Craig Adler was hyperventilating in his house.

Several seconds later, the phone in his hand rang and he hurriedly answered.

"You said you’d keep an eye on those n. Did you find them? Jett is still walking around like nothing happened. Sothing went wrong, didn’t it?"

"I told you to keep an eye on Kelsie Sutton, didn’t I?" In response, the sa man he had been speaking to through the phone for more than a year, spoke calmly.

"Wh-what? I was going to tell you. The people I hired to abduct and scare her a bit called that evening to refund the money I paid them." Craig stuttered through clenched teeth, his eyes darting around in panic as he realized he might’ve made a grave mistake.

The man on the other end was silent for a mont before he snorted coldly.

"And you didn’t think it right to inform ?"

Craig imdiately went silent.

Right. He had found it strange when that happened. Those n suddenly called to return the money he gave them.

When he asked them why, they only said they couldn’t do the job and hung up. He tried to contact them afterward only to realize he had been blocked.

So he just concluded Jett must’ve caught on and did sothing to them. And that was when he began plotting.

That egoistic and unpredictable nephew of his already had too many things on him. But the good thing was, the shareholders knew they weren’t on good terms.

So if Jett brought it up and motioned to dismiss him as a shareholder, he could just argue the company’s president was trying to take him off the board because he had a personal problem with him.

He knew Jett knew this too which was why he was yet to bring it up.

But he couldn’t take that chance when it ca to his father. So he ca up with a plan to get rid of Jett in an accident.

However, ever since the n he hired told him they were about to do their job, he hadn’t heard a word from them.

Not a peep from any of the twelve n. To make it worse, Jett was fine and going about his day like nothing happened.

It was too silent, yet he could sense that brat brandishing a sword behind his back.

If he sohow managed to get proof that he was responsible for the hit on his life, they’d be no saving himself.

His father would dismiss him without thinking twice and his reputation would tank so badly.

Tightening his grip on the phone, Craig pleaded desperately, "Yo-you have to help . You promised to always help ."

"I’ll find the n you hired to tie up loose ends. In the anti, don’t do anything until you hear from ."

"I will do as you say."

The person on the other end hung up without another word.

As the call beeped, a knock suddenly sounded on the door causing him to flinch in fear, almost dropping his phone.

"Dad? Are you sleeping already?" Boyce Adler’s curious voice ca from behind the door.

Craig exhaled in relief. He waited a few seconds before he called out in response, "What is it?"

Boyce pushed open the door and walked in, already changed into his sleeping clothes.

"You know how the shareholders gave Jett a year to find a wife?"

Craig stared at him blankly.

"What about it?"

Fidgeting with his fingers, Boyce forced on a smile. "I fear we might’ve made a mistake."

Craig raised a brow.

"What?"

Boyce hurried to his side, then proceeded to lay down his fears on table.

"I hear grandfather is looking for a wife for him. Basically, he has already found soone and will set them up soon."

"If that happens, the shareholders’ faith in Jett will return and we’ll be kicked to the curb once again."

Craig lowered his eyes, nodding his head in agreent.

Trying to cripple Jett’s influence in the Adler Group wasn’t enough. The fact he had the old man’s favor was the problem.

No matter what he did, that old man would always be on his side.

"Father, grandfather will always take Jett’s side no matter what he does." Boyce exhaled heavily, as if hearing his father’s thoughts.

Craig instantly shot him a stern look. "And who’s fault is that? If you were half as competent as your cousin, your grandfather wouldn’t be taking his side."

Boyce moved between both feets uncomfortably.

"It’s not that I’m incompetent, Jett is just a genius. I’m not the one who chose not to be born a genius like him."

"To be fair, it’s you and mother’s fault that I’m like this. Neither of you is a genius and to make it worse, you were not a good enough candidate for grandfather to pass the company."

"I an, why else would he skip a generation in Adler Group’s succession?"

Smack!

Boyce’s face abruptly whipped to the side when Craig raised his hand and slapped him across the face.

"You stupid brat, how dare you talk about your parents with such disrespect? You’re born to a family like the Adlers and get to enjoy privileges because of it even though you’re dumb."

"If you were born into a lesser family with this brain, you’d be trampled on everywhere you go. So think twice before you bla your mother and I for your incompetence!"

Feeling his slapped cheek, Boyce grimaced and turned his hardened eyes to look Craig in the eyes.

"What? I can’t say things like this about you, but you never miss a chance to compare to Jett?"

Craig reached out and gripped him tightly by the collar.

"What has gotten into you today? Instead of trying to get into your grandparents good books, you spend it doing nothing. No wonder Jett is better than you."

Boyce’s cheeks suddenly stretched into a knowing smile.

"I’m not the only one he’s better than. There are thousands of people he’s better than and you’re among them."
