Tossing the court summon at him, she scoffed, "You do know coming to the hospital or asking to see this evening would’ve solved whatever this is faster, right?"
The lawyers were slightly taken aback when they saw a woman in a doctor’s lab coat storm into the room without a lawyer trailing behind her.
When they found their tongues again, their faces heated with anger and they lashed at her one after the other.
"What do you think you’re doing addressing my client directly?"
"This is a courtroom, you don’t just barge in here. Do you have no manners?"
"Apologize to Mr. Adler right now!"
Kelsie was rendered speechless.
Not by their sttack, but because of the man who sat in their midst, nodding in agreent to each of their words.
He was totally acting like a pouty kid.
Placing a hand on her throbbing forehead, she parted her lips to say sothing when the gavel suddenly sounded, followed by the judge clearing his throat.
"We are yet to begin, so I will forgive your outbursts this one ti." He paused to shoot Kelsie a stern look. "I don’t see your lawyer anywhere, Ms. Sutton. You’ve been summoned by the Adler family’s lawyers, do you plan to represent yourself?"
At this, one of Jett’s lawyers gritted his teeth and glared hard at Kelsie.
"This little... you must think this summon is a joke!"
Kelsie turned to bow to the judge in apology.
"Forgive , Your Honor, I didn’t think Mr. Adler would be so dramatic regarding an issue I know nothing about."
Jett imdiately snorted, leaning forward.
"What are you talking about? Did you not read the summoning letter?"
Kelsie grimaced slightly.
"Nothing in that summon makes any sense."
Jett picked up the crumpled paper and swept his eyes across it for a mont before he huffed, "What do you an? I clearly said I summoned you to court to address a matter of undisclosed personal affairs."
"I’m here now as the summon demanded. So what is this ’personal affairs’ which you had to summon to court instead of talking it out with ?" She raised a questioning brow, drawing emphasis on personal affairs by deliberately dragging it.
Jett took out so new dollar bills from his pocket and handed it to one of his lawyers who took it to the court clerk.
Once it was on his table, the judge stared at Jett blankly. "Are you bribing , Mr. Adler?"
Jett unhurriedly drumd his fingers on the desk and turned his eyes to a confused Kelsie.
"Those bills were given to by a woman seven years ago. It ans nothing, right? Except it was given to by a woman who took advantage of ."
The judge choked on his saliva.
The Adler family’s lawyers couldn’t believe their ears.
This was the reason he dragged an obviously busy woman to court? And he didn’t just co with one of them, but the entire lawyers the Adler family had?
Was this even an issue worth bringing to court?
Kelsie, on the other hand, froze.
"Wh-what did you just say?"
Bang!
Jett suddenly banged his fist on the table, vigorously getting on his feet as he pointed a shaky finger at her.
"She’s not even denying it! As if treating like a gigolo wasn’t enough, she didn’t bother to tell she had our son."
The corners of Kelsie’s lips twitched slightly.
Although finding this situation ridiculous, she couldn’t exactly deny it.
Indeed, she had gone into a room that wasn’t hers that day. Was it even a room or did she grab a random man she found downstairs into a room?
Seven years later and she still had no clear mory of that night, but she was certain of being the one who went to him. So frankly speaking, his claim was actually valid.
"Is that true, Ms. Sutton? Did you really do all he’s accusing you of?" The judge had no choice, but to ask Kelsie.
At this, Jett snickered.
"This is a case of sexual harassnt, Your Honor. No, it’s more than that. We even have a son together."
Kelsie already knew she was bound to lose this case, but she still thought it was better to clarify her action from that night.
"First of all, I didn’t know that was you. Secondly, I felt it would be disrespectful to just leave without paying..."
"So you admit you took advantage of ?"
"Calm down, Mr. Adler, and listen to what happened that night. I know you think I took advantage of you, but you never really refu..."
"It’s a yes or no answer, Ms. Sutton. Our judge is a busy man with tons of other court cases to preside over today. Don’t waste his ti and just answer the question."
The room suddenly fell silent as Kelsie didn’t retort imdiately like she had been doing.
Even though this was a court case, the judge who often watched soap operas with his family felt this scene was a little too familiar.
Kelsie was silent for a mont before she t Jett’s calm eyes.
"Fine. You win. What is it you want in compensation?"
The man slipped both hands into his pockets and pretended to think for a mont.
"No matter how much I think of it, I can’t think of anything I want. Hold on, let think again."
"Since you’ve stripped of of my dignity as a man, what can you do now to make up for it? Money? I don’t want money. I’m wealthy enough already."
"I don’t want land either. I have too many. I would’ve asked for the new edition of my favorite car company, but I already have."
"What about gifting an estate? No, I have tons of those already. So what can you possibly give that I don’t already have?"
"Oh, wait. I know now. The least you can do for right now is to marry . Don’t you think so, Ms. Sutton?"
