With a worried and anxious smile on her face, the brown-haired woman retracted her gaze and turned her deep green eyes to the road as she replied:
"Of course, don’t worry, we will try our best, in the anti, we were thinking of showing you around the city or the association branch’s main building, what would you prefer?"
Hans paused for a few seconds before replying:
"I won’t trouble you with sothing like that, you can leave in the city center, and I’ll find my way around, as for my request… I hope it’ll be completed by three p.m."
Hans didn’t give any way to contact him, just an already established ti, aning he had just set a limit for the association, whether they would be helpful or he would have to do things his way… would depend on the shown result.
Even if what Hans had asked of them was quite the hassle, especially with it being in the middle of the night, none of the three complained about anything, strange to say when talking about high-ranking awakened but… none of them had the right to decide or express their opinions at the mont.
Hans retracted his gaze and moved his focus toward the countless buildings that flashed before his eyes as the car quickly drove down the almost empty streets of London.
As they got closer to the city center, a few more cars started appearing until the traffic seed to be on par with how it was during the day.
A few minutes later, the car was parked in a parking lot just beside the enormous skyscraper of the London Association branch.
Hans observed it, and while in the past he would have found it incredible, it paled a little bit when compared to the central tower of the M.A.V.I. He had recently co across.
He quickly lowered his chin and moved his gaze from the top of the skyscraper, instead, he carefully scrutinized the three people who had just accompanied him all the way there, putting them in an awkward spot to be in, as they felt observed and in danger, but contrary to their expectations, just a few calm words ca out of the young man’s mouth.
"Thank you for the ride"
Hans turned around and the three imdiately bowed:
"It was our duty, do not worry too much about such things"
Replied the curly-haired woman, who was in the front spot as always.
Hans humd silently as he turned his head to watch the three bowing behind him, he then turned it again and lifted his body with {telekinesis}.
The three people watched as the young man’s feet detached from the ground astonished… telekinesis was a spell most mages could learn when they created their seventh circle… but lifting oneself with it… was not sothing anyone could achieve.
But as that thought rushed through their heads, sothing else did the sa…
Hans’s words just a few minutes earlier…
"I am not just anyone".
Hans flew away leaving the three in the parking lot, and as he felt the cold breeze of London blow on his body, he felt a sense of freedom to so extent.
He flew a couple dozen ters above the ground, high enough to fly over most of the building, but also low enough to allow him to see what was happening on the streets beneath him.
Not many people were still around, the first bunch to catch his eye were a group of drunk friends, about a dozen people, split between n and won.
Most of them seed to be quite drunk, not enough to puke or anything, just enough to spend a great night with their friends.
Then, he spotted a lady dressed in an elegant long black coat, furred at the top, she seed to be awakened, about a C-rank, not that high ranked, but enough for her to feel safe even when walking alone at night.
He noticed many other people, the city ran at its usual pace and that was the best for Hans.
The place he hoped to visit opened around half past seven, aning that he had to wait approximately four hours before he could go there.
’Maybe I should have accepted their invitation and let them take on a little tour…’
The thought crossed Hans’s mind, but he quickly dismissed that idea, being able to roam freely for the city was much better.
Hans’s fighting speed suddenly spiked as he added his {repulsion} spell onto his flighting alintation.
In just a few minutes, he had already observed most of the city center.
After a while, Hans’s direction changed, he flew upward toward the highest skyscraper he could find.
As he approached the rooftop, Hans slowed down his pace, before stopping right above it…
He had never seen this building, it had a normal rectangular shape but it definitely didn’t exist before the catastrophe.
The rooftop of the tall building was covered in nothing but a little layer of concrete, it held up a pretty huge antenna that rose up more than ten ters and a few boxes with fans that seed to be the base for the building’s AC.
Of course, there was also a little room with a tal door that probably led to the last floor that was standing right beneath the top.
Hans didn’t pay any attention to it, he simply sat on the edge of the rooftop and left both his legs hanging in the air.
The first thing he did was look down…
He was at least a couple hundred ters up in the sky, and a couple hundred ters of air separated his feet from the ground…
He was reminded of how he used to be scared of heights when he was little…
’I don’t seem to fear heights anymore’
He thought, his eyes seemingly disappointed by this news rather than happy or excited.
’Maybe because I know that I could easily fly away before touching the ground…
Maybe I could even survive if I were to fall from this height…
But..
Let’s not put that to the test.’
Hans raised his gaze and observed the skyline…
He took a deep breath as a cloud of heat escaped his body, he was dressed lightly but the temperature up there was below 0 degrees.
His bored eyes observed the whole city… it was beautiful… a different kind of beautiful from the incredible scenery he had seen a few hours earlier… a different kind of beautiful when compared to the pure white gate he had seen before eting Caelan…
It was the beautiful one could observe before the world beca what it was… when life seed to not reserve surprise for anyone… when more or less, the era of discovery and exploration had co to an end, and the only thing humanity discovered and explored further was technology and biology….
’If the catastrophe had never happened…
Where would I be now?
Or if that incident never happened…
Whatever, it’s pointless to think about it now.
I should just… enjoy it while it lasts.’
As Hans stared at the distant buildings he felt sothing moving underneath his shirt.
A few seconds later, a little white face poked out of the hole through which his right arm ca out of the shirt, Ember’s deep and honest eyes stared at Hans, and he stared back.
"You can understand to a certain extent, right? You probably don’t even hear my language but you can feel the aning of my words…
We… won’t see each other for so ti"
Hans whispered at the snake as he brought his mouth closer to her as if he were whispering sothing in her ears.
As a reaction to what he said, the little animal’s eyes split wide open, and a little hiss ca out of her mouth.
"I know I know… but I am going to spend a lot of ti reading and studying… searching for a way to improve myself… and you should do the sa.
Staying together will just hinder the both of us…
Your potential… is not showing itself, and it is partially my fault.
If you were born in the wild, and had the opportunity to hunt every day, you might have already caught up to …
It’s better if I leave you in the hands of soone who’s more professional than .
Hans called out Caelan who was surprised to be summoned once again after such a short period of ti.
"Hey, what happened to you being busy for the whole day?"
"Sorry, I wanted to ask for a little favor"
Hans said calmly.
But the man didn’t even hear Hans’ reply, instead, he was focused on sothing else…
The thousands of lights lit up in the entire city mirrored the thousands of visible stars in the dark sky… he was at a loss for words as he observed the view, and for a whole minute, not a single word reached Hans.
