"…I left"
"Of course you did…"
"So? What now?"
"They are searching for , and they are starting to catch up on my current identity"
"How do you know?"
"Three days ago…
I was going back ho as usual after another day of my terrible life at the association branch when I felt so killing intent directed at .
I turned as fast as I could, but the only thing I found waiting for was a dagger a few centiters from my eyeball.
If I hadn’t continued to improve my skills during the last few months, my head would have been found on the floor the following morning.
It was a top A-rank assassin, I’m sure you know how rare soone like that is.
I was also advantaged because I am accustod to fighting in the dark, but it really tested my limits."
"Are you sure they were the ones you are thinking about?"
"Do you think many organizations have the power to put a top A-rank assassin on my tail?"
"I don’t know, you sure feel like soone who offended a lot of people"
"What’s up with that?"
"Mh? Nothing I just said the truth"
"Then?"
"What then?"
Asked Hans.
"Will you help ?"
"Sigh… I didn’t really want to sort this out like this, but I need to know sothing before doing anything else"
"You promised didn’t you?"
"I did, and because of that I will help you out in both cases, but depending on your reply, I will decide how far I will go for you"
"Alright then, ask right away"
"Have you... Ever killed an innocent person?"
"No, I haven’t."
To tell whether the person who’s talking to you, people train in things like reading their breath, heartbeat, or pupil movent.
Hans however, was only watching one thing:
[telling the truth]
That was what his {mystic insight} told him.
Hans sighed, happy to know that.
"Alright, I will help you when you need to, but I can’t stay here all the ti"
"Of course"
"If that’s all….
Call when things are about to get hot, I won’t bother with the rest"
"Bye"
Replied Kenta watching Hans exit the room.
’Finally…
Looks like he hasn’t seen through yet.
This is it, I’ve endured this shit for half a year just for this…
Hans… I knew you had it in you… the potential to free from these dead weights.
It might have been because he trusted his {mystic Insight} too much.
Or maybe because everything had gone his way after awakening, but Hans had never expected soone like Kenta to be able to think up anything tricky.
’I still rember it clearly… that day when I witnessed your magic, I already figured you might’ve made the perfect scapegoat, but you…
You didn’t just surpass my expectations.
You completely shattered them.
"Hahaha… hahaha"
Raising his sight to the ceiling, ’Kenta’ laughed for a few seconds.
"After you are done with them, no one will be able to recognize my face.
Finally, once my shackles are released…
the red tyranny doesn’t seem like a bad option.
Oh well, I guess it must not be so easy.
For now, let’s see how far he’ll go for .’
…
Hans had a bad feeling, but he shook it off taking Ember in his hands.
"Ah… I don’t know, It just feels like things have been a little bit too easy lately"
’The tortoises weren’t a threat for , but instead beca nourishnt for my strength, Elijah’s craziness has been pushed back a year or so, gifting enough ti to grow strong before his rampage, and the doubts that have been piling up inside my mind for the last few months are slowly getting an answer thanks to this new power of mine’
Thought Hans touching his heart.
’Is everything finally about to co to an end, or is this just the quiet before the storm?’
’The gods, those entities, these powers…
What do they all an?
Whatever is happening here… is it happening just on Earth? Or is it sothing every civilization goes through? is this why we can’t find any other living being besides humans?
I don’t know whether or not what I’m thinking is true, but this situation doesn’t feel like killing monsters will put an end to anything’
Not knowing where to go, Hans went to the place he had always gone to when he was lost.
The creaking door that led to the silent room was heavy to open, as always.
Not for Hans’s body, but for his mind.
He couldn’t bear it anymore, seeing his family like that.
He felt like charging right into the open ocean to take down that monster as soon as possible, but he knew he barely stood a chance as he was.
And that wasn’t the only problem, ever since the attack at Manhattan, there hadn’t been any other sightings of the Abyssal snake.
’How the hell am I supposed to find it?
It’s no different from searching for a needle in a haystack.’
"Hey Dad"
’My son? Are you here?’
"I ca to visit you, I have been away for a few days, but everything turned out well.
Don’t worry about ."
"I think I found a way to get you back on your feet old man.
I have no idea where to begin tough, I would very much appreciate one of your boring pieces of advice right now.
Say, Dad, what would you do if you had to find sothing without a single trail?
I’m sorry to tell you this, I’m sure you will get to the answer way before but you won’t be able to tell "
"Sigh… I miss you"
"I will have to get going now, I need to get to work before the start of the new sester."
Since they weren’t able to hear him, he didn’t speak, but he also bid farewell to both his mom and his sister."
A few minutes later Hans arrived at the airport, where the plane was already waiting for him.
Even if the ti for their takeoff hadn’t co yet, he still boarded and rested on the silent vehicle.
’Finally, now that I have a bit of ti, I can search for sothing inside this darkness once again.
Those silhouettes who emitted light… what were they?’
Curious, Hans entered once again that plain of darkness.
This ti, instead of calling for Caelan, he wandered without a destination in mind, moving through the countless silhouettes.
He passed by hundreds and hundreds of them, and yet he could only spot slight differences in their height and body shape, other than that, nothing else.
So of them, however, about ten percent, emitted so light.
It was faint, and nowhere near like the one displayed by the silhouette that granted access to Caelan’s space.
It was like comparing a star with an oil lamp.
Hans was curious to know what would’ve happened if he touched so of the dark silhouettes, so he slowly raised his arm before gently tapping the chest of one of the mysterious figures.
To his surprise, nothing happened, his finger passed right through the figure’s chest.
Then, Hans tried to walk into the figure, and just like when he tried to touch it with his hand, it acted as if it wasn’t there in the first place.
’This… can I only touch the lit ones?’
Thought Hans.
Then, to confirm his hypothesis, Hans walked towards one of the figures that emitted a faint light, and even if reluctant, he touched its chest.
Like it had happened when touching Caelan’s silhouette, everything around him beca blurry, and his vision shook a bit before stabilizing.
Then, walking towards him, a few ters from Hans, a figure erged from the darkness.
The light emanated from Hans’s body kit up that figure’s face.
And Hans gasped when he saw who was standing in front of him.
A woman with a beautiful face and a pleasing figure, her facial features were really flawless, or at least for that ti’s standard.
Her clothes, however, were quite…
’A kimono? Or sothing like that, I don’t know, I feel like it’s one of those dresses they used in Asian ancient kingdoms’
Hans wasn’t sure, also because that dress had never reached the planet he was living on.
For asures, it looked similar to a Hanfu, a traditional Chinese dress.
The woman approached the man full of amazent and curiosity.
More than for him, the amazent was for his clothes and his earrings.
"And who might you be?"
’I am sure of it, I died, I was poisoned.
But then… why is it that I’m seeing a man in my dreams?
Was it because I never in my life had the chance to give birth to an heir?
Is he the one sent by the heavens for ? What is it with his clothes?
Is this what you would call… an angel?’
As the woman approached Hans, the young boy said:
"Excuse , who… are you?"
