’I… can’t believe it!’

"Right under our gazes….

This fuckers ran sothing like that right under our gazes!"

Scread the NY Association’s branch leader.

"Is sothing wrong?"

Asked his secretary, rushing inside the room.

"Get a plane ticket and a car!"

Exclaid the man.

"F-for where?"

"Chicago"

….

In the anti, it was finally ti for Hans to leave.

He could’ve also remained in Chicago, but sothing far more exciting was waiting for him.

Other than the golden scales he had gotten after promising the dean he would take part in the improbable gate raid, she had insisted on paying him back for the information about the traitor, and Hans, after giving In, asked for knowledge in exchange.

She had organized sothing extrely difficult to obtain for anyone.

After talking with the governnt, Washington’s Mayor, and the association, she gained the right to close off a public building for Hans.

It was incredibly vast, incredibly full, and incredibly useful… second biggest library in the world:

The Library of Congress.

For two whole months, Hans would be the only one with the authority to enter, and for two months, he would be free to do anything he wants as long as it does not damage the knowledge inheritance passed down by the ancestors.

The Library was once the biggest in the world, but after the catastrophe, it had been replaced by the one built in the European Association headquarters.

That library not only was now the world’s biggest library but also the most modern one, since being controlled by the association, it contained knowledge about all kinds of monsters and awakened registered till day.

But going there required a permit that even the dean could not obtain for anyone else other than her, since the information contained there, if used by the wrong person, could easily lead to trouble for the whole association.

After a short flight and a car ride, Hans arrived in Washington, and at the sa mont, the NY association leader landed in Chicago, ready to settle the situation with the Asura Guild.

The man entered the guild’s headquarters, and his angered face couldn’t be seen, covered by the layer of smoke that dwindled in the room.

The rays of light that penetrated the room from the opened door caught a lot of attention, and lit up the smoke in the air, making it visible to everyone’s eyes.

"Who is this shithead?"

Comnted one.

"I don’t like the way he looks" added a man just beside the first.

"Yeah, though it might be fun to play around with him"

He really couldn’t stand these scums anymore, so, with reasons for his actions, he let himself go.

The guards who had accompanied him, remained outside, listening to the screams of the thugs agonizing in pain one by one.

By the ti he was done, even the people who were with him feared his fist and were scared to enter the building, only one had followed him to the deepest part of the mansion that served as a guild base for those disgusting human pieces of sh*t.

"Was that the last one?"

He asked, letting the body of one of the gangsters who was previously lazily smoking on the couch fall to the ground beaten to a pulp.

"Yes sir" replied his secretary.

"Good, bring everyone here and clean this place out, not only get these corpses away from here but search this entire mansion."

"And also, tie up the few of them to whom I’ve left the ability to breathe, they might know sothing if we can’t find anything here"

A couple of minutes later, the people with him had already taken care of all the corpses and were already turning the place upside down to find anything that could’ve been of help to their leader.

None of them knew exactly what they were searching for, but judging from the place and the scale of the organization, they could all tell that it wasn’t anything good.

"Sir!"

Yelled one from the deepest parts of the building.

"Yeah?!"

Replied the leader.

"I- I think I’ve found sothing, it might be what we’re searching for"

As soon as he heard this, the NY branch leader got up from his seat and walked toward the source of the voice.

"Clanck! clack!!"

An iron trapdoor was forced open using so tal tools, and the dark stairs that were unveiled beneath it were lighted by the lamps from above the surface.

"It looks like this is it"

Said the man.

"Yeah, it sure does" comnted the leader.

"Let’s go"

He gave the example, taking the lead being the first to venture down the stairs connecting them to the unknown.

And behind him, the dozen of other awakened followed.

The stairs were only a couple of ters wide (about 7 feet), and only two people could go down at the sa ti while standing side by side.

The deeper the tunnel went, the thicker the layer of dust laid on top of the steps beca, and the darker the room seed.

Twenty seconds, and they still hadn’t reached a destination.

What was so secret that it had to be hidden this low inside the earth? What was so dark that required an entire guild as a facade just to operate it?

That was what the NY association branch leader intended to discover.

Almost thirty seconds later, his feet finally touched the last step, and by the ti they all managed to regroup, the putrefying sll of blood and flesh took over their noses, making so of them puke.

Saying the room was pitch dark was an understatent. All the trained professionals awakened, who could even fight perfectly in the night, were unable to see a single inch in front of them.

They had beco like a bunch of blind people, using their arms instead of the usual stick to locate whatever was around them.

They all wandered around not knowing what they were touching or what they were stepping on until soone finally found a light switch.

The lights hanging from the low ceiling of the room lit up, blinding the visitors for a few seconds before finally letting them regain their sight.

But in that place, many of the witnesses would have preferred to remain blind, ignorant of what was going on around them.

Those who managed to see it, however, remained traumatized by the horrendous things taking cover under the fancy building above their heads.

Disposed in rows, all over the room, were long tables, on which was present nothing but remains of soil, and right above them, were special lights pointing towards the white tables.

Even if there was nothing there anymore, all of the present could tell it was once a location to grow various herbs and drugs.

The worst part however was still to co, as half the whole room was empty of any furnishing.

There were just two abominations facing one another:

On one side, was the almost completely used rotting carcass of the A-rank monster praying mantis.

And on the other side, was the now completely decomposed body structure of a minotaur.

The flesh and the muscles were completely missing, and the only thing giving away its race amongst the bones were the two giant horns that stood in its cranium.

In between the two, on the ground, countless human bones and carcasses were piled up.

So bodies deford, so were missing half of their faces, and so were even modified.

On top of that, making the scene even more grueso and creepy, were the bugs who were feeding off the corpses, buzzing around them and slowly munching off their skins and body tissues.

The situation was so bad, that most of them imdiately let their lunch climb up their throats and flood the ground, and even the leader, who in his life had killed countless people from the red tyranny, and witnessed many disgusting places, did his best to avoid barfing uncontrollably.

When they got out, they were all shaken to the core, the fresh air was like fuel for their minds, which had remained inside that closed and terrifying space for far too long.

Even if only a few minutes had passed, the anxiety of discovering what was behind that veil of darkness, the doubt of whatever was causing that purifying stench, and the disgust felt when seeing those corpses, made that ti pass slowly, enough to strain the minds of all the team mbers.

"What should we do?"

Asked the secretary to the leader.

Among all the mbers, they were almost the only two still ntally stable, and with that in mind, he, as the team leader, made the wisest decision he could have.

"Let’s call for backup, let the experts analyze what they were growing down there, and then change the version and reveal it to the press.

In the anti I need two things, first of all, bring a bottle of water, I need to think for a little bit, and then give my phone, I must chat a little bit with a certain soone"
