"Since when does killing humans….
Allow people to level up?"
’Also, what’s with the crazy experience? I leveled up twelve tis in a single fight, that’s just insane.
For my level to rise so much it must’ve considered that beast either as a boss or a mini-boss, because otherwise, even if my level was so low and the opponent was an SS-rank, this would not be possible.’
Hans sighed before continuing with his reasoning:
’Does the fact that I gained experience an he had completely beco a monster? was that not a partial transformation?
I don’t even want to think about it but all the information leads to one answer…
That pill he took… has the power to transform one into a demon servant.
I have to ask this dean if he knows sothing else, because if this tonic was enough to transform a barely passable fifth-tier mage into an SS-rank calamity it would be a disaster if it ended up in a high-ranked awakened’s hands.’
Hans got up from the bed he was previously resting on and walked outside his room.
As he opened the door, he found a familiar face behind it, Caleb had been waiting for him to wake up and was resting on a little bench beside the door.
When the sound of Hans’s steps reached his ears, he woke up, and imdiately began checking Hans’s body while asking him many questions:
"Hans! Thank god you’re safe, the dean would’ve killed otherwise!
Are you feeling good? Is everything okay? Do you need sothing to eat?"
But to this, hand only replied by saying he needed to et the Japanese dean, and it was better if all the powerful people in the academy gathered too.
"Alright"
Replied Caleb.
"I’ll go and inform them, in the anti, you should eat sothing, look at you you resemble a mummy."
"Alright"
Hans got out of the building and arrived at a pizza hut, where he ordered a large pizza to eat by himself.
He paid with so cash given to him by Caleb since the whole ’points instead of money’ thing was only sothing done in the Arican Academy.
After wolfing down his al, he received a call from Caleb:
"I have done what you asked to do, the only people in charge here are the dean and Saki, they were both eager to know what happened so arranging a eting with them wasn’t difficult, co to building one in about half an hour, we are all here."
"Ok, actually, I’ll be there in a minute, there is no need to wait half an hour"
"Alright"
Hans left the place and headed to the central building, the only skyscraper in the whole academy, well, it wasn’t really high enough to be called like that, but it still stood out amongst the other buildings, that didn’t surpass the three stories of high, with only a few exceptions.
He entered, and before he could even ask for directions at the reception, Saki walked up to him.
She handed over a translation device before even speaking a single word, knowing Hans couldn’t understand her.
She knew how to speak English but since the invention of the translation device she had gotten pretty lazy, and decided that expressing herself in her own language would’ve been more efficient for both her and the listener.
"Is it working?"
She asked in Japanese.
"Yes, thank you"
Replied Hans in English.
"Alright, follow , the other two are already in the eting room"
Hans did as told, and followed her into a room on the sixth floor, in which Caleb and the dean were already sitting around a circular table.
"Nice to see you up, kid"
Said the dean.
And in reply, Hans, annoyed by the way he was called replied:
"Strange, I thought you had run away old man."
Imdiately falling for Hans’s provocation the dean got up and hit his hand against the table.
"This kid… agghhh he’s so annoying"
Saki proceeded to hold the dean back before he could assault Hans.
The youngest in the room took a seat and put an end to the useless chatter just by saying a few words.
"It’s about ti we discuss the important stuff, isn’t it? And the ti I tell you why I asked to et you here"
Hearing this, they all directed their attention towards Hans.
"There is sothing crucial I have to tell you.
I think it’s quite obvious but it has sothing to do with the monster, or if we want to call it that way the Japanese teacher."
They all nodded, curious of knowing what Hans was about to say.
"When I woke up, after having killed that beast I
….
leveled up"
’What?!’
The loud thoughts of the three people listening to Hans could be assud by the look on their faces.
They were all shocked, to the point that for almost a full minute, silence reigned upon the room.
The matter wasn’t as easy as it looked.
If by killing another player, or maybe a devil worshipper it would’ve been possible to obtain experience, then their reactions wouldn’t have been so exaggerated.
There is only one way to gain experience, and that is by killing monsters, but then… what does the system qualify as a monster?
Devil worshippers are evil, and yet the system does not reward experience for killing them, the only exception to that are demon servants.
The demons’ servants are different from the demons’ worshippers in two ways:
First of all, while demons worshippers complete missions and tasks given by the demons to be granted a reward, for example, how the intruder at the Academy had to sacrifice the bodies of awakened, or how Jackson Taylor had to sacrifice his own lifespan, the demons’ servants must obey the orders of their master, and do not have a choice regarding the matter.
Secondly, while demon worshippers have the sa appearance as normal humans, demons’ servants look like beasts and do not have the ability to speak or interact with humans in any other way than fighting.
"I can tell what you’re thinking but no" said Hans breaking the silence.
"He was not a demon servant"
"What? Then how?"
Imdiately asked the dean
"I know for a fact he isn’t because I am very sensitive when it cos to mana, he wasn’t a demon worshipper, he beca one, and he did that by eating a strange pill"
Caleb imdiately entered the conversation:
"Oh, the person who I fought back at the academy also took a pill, is it possible for them to be the sa?"
"Then how would you explain the fact that this one turned completely into a monster, and was even stronger than the other?"
"I don’t know, maybe he was too weak to handle it so it completely took control of him, making him beco stronger but taking away his humanity."
’That is actually a good and plausible guess, but I feel like there’s sothing more to it’
"Alright, that is that, but could you please tell us what happened before our arrival?"
Asked the dean.
Hans told them what happened when he entered the building, and also what the teacher was doing.
After he was finished with his story, the dean apologized deeply for his cousin’s actions, and revealed the story behind what was happening, obviously leaving aside the part where he got humiliated.
"That is all there is to it, I don’t know anything else about him, and I couldn’t investigate who was behind this because if he discovered I probably would’ve ended up breaking the contract, as for the pill… it might be better if we leave this matter be"
"Alright, I understand"
Even saying that, Hans began despising the dean because of his choice, he was the dean, and yet to save his friends and his life he let the students of the academy get assassinated.
"I think you already know this, but you should never reveal what has happened here, both because it will affect the Japanese academy’s reputation, and because it will also attract a lot of attention toward "
"Yes, of course, that is what we hope for too"
"Then that’s settled, I have really important matters to attend to, so I will leave as soon as I can and return to Arica, I hope you stay in good health"
"We hope so too"
Replied the dean shaking the young man’s hand.
Hans wanted to get out of this kind of trouble as soon as he could, even if he despised people who murdered humans, he had nothing to do with the red tyranny, the only thing he wished for was to return to his ho and train.
’I… need to beco stronger’
After giving his last goodbye to his students, who were worried about him, and to Caleb, who asked him to send his regards to the dean, Hans left the Japanese Academy, eager to return ho.
Just a couple of days later, however, a huge bomb was dropped on the internet, one that would’ve stirred up that chaotic world even more than it already was.
