Despite his wound, he struggled to his feet with grim determination.
Can't let this slide.
"Give the gun," Gates commanded, moving toward the man with an authoritative presence.
"You can't use it properly. You might kill soone by accident. This isn't a toy."
Gates's words were reasonable.
The man's grip tightened possessively. "Hmph, you think you can lie to ? It's simple enough to figure out. What is there to learn about it? I've already got the crosshair in my vision, all I need to do is point and shoot."
He examined the weapon with amateur curiosity, fingers tracing energy cells and targeting systems.
"I must say, this weapon is unlike anything I've seen. It's like it just ca out of a sci-fi movie in the apocalypse."
"Hahah, it's ironic we are actually facing a similar event to the apocalypse."
Dangerous ignorance. Photon weapons aren't toys.
"Stop it," Gates pressed, extending his hand. "You can't use it safely."
Gates used the voice of reason. Unfortunately, reason doesn't always win.
The man's expression hardened with stubborn defiance. As Gates reached for the weapon, the man's fingers accidentally found the trigger chanism as he tried to move it away from him.
ZAP!
"What are you—"
The photon beam lanced through the shattered window, energy crackling through open air with uncontrolled power. The shot flew wide of any demon targets, missing everything except empty space.
That was a wild shot...he could have killed ...luckily he didn't kill anyone. Gates thought with a fast beating heart, his eyes trailing the path the strike went.
His eyes widened as he saw its trajectory.
The energy beam's trajectory carried it beyond the hospital's periter, beyond the imdiate battlefield, toward sothing that made Gates's spine crawl.
In the distance, partially obscured by smoke and distortion, a massive figure observed the area. His hands were crossed together in boredom.
He didn't feel like he needed to do anything; those defective demons would do the job.
Unlike the defective demons swarming the building, this entity radiated power.
The largest demon. The one from the portal.
The wild photon beam blurred past the creature's position, missing by re inches. Energy that should have been invisible at such a range painted a perfect trajectory line through the air.
The massive demon's burning eyes tracked the beam's origin point with narrowing eyes. A slow grin spread across features that belonged in humanity's darkest nightmares.
....
It knows exactly where we are now.
Gates started visibly sweating, his eyes locked with the demon's burning gaze across a very long distance.
Gates wasn't sure whether the demon was staring into his eyes or at the building itself, but either way, he knew that they were in trouble.
The creature's attention felt like ice water in his veins.
"YOU FUCKING MORON!" Gates exploded, spittle flying from his lips.
"WHAT HAVE YOU DONE! YOU JUST KILLED US ALL!"
Gates let out the raw terror in his heart, completely unfiltered rage.
The demon laughed as he made his way towards the hospital.
it's coming this way.
Arthur's perception caught everything that had happened, despite his focus on the demons at hand, he had understood that the moron in suit might've signed their death penalty.
Sothing fundantal had changed in his equation. He needed a new plan.
There is no way I'm going to die because of a moron...no, that's impossible. I can't die now, not after everything!
Arthur's photon weapon swung toward the business-suited man, energy cells charging with lethal intent. His finger found the trigger, applying pressure that would end this stupidity permanently.
Just one shot....and he will be solved, I wouldn't have to worry about his sorry ass. Shit! I should've killed him before!
The man's face went white as he stared down the barrel of concentrated death.
"Wait! I didn't an—"
Kill him. End this liability before it gets worse.
The voice continued in Arthur's head.
Arthur's reflexes processed the situation in the valuable seconds they had left. The man was a threat, yes. A dangerous amateur who'd compromised their position through ignorance and selfishness.
I want to kill him now...so badly. But he will be useful...
The trigger pressure eased fractionally.
Not from rcy, but because Arthur had another plan for him. Every photon blast counted now, and wasting ammunition on human stupidity was a luxury he couldn't afford.
Save the shot for what's coming.
"Drop. The. Weapon." Arthur's voice carried enough nace to stop hearts. "NOW."
No second chances.
The photon rifle clattered to the floor as the man's nerveless fingers released their grip. His whole body trembled like a leaf in hurricane winds.
"I'm sorry! I didn't know—"
"SHUT UP!" Gates roared, his composed businessman persona completely shattered.
"YOU DIDN'T KNOW? YOU FIRED A MILITARY WEAPON WITHOUT TRAINING!"
Hysteria is setting in. I can't bla him, though.
The man cowered against the wall, tears streaming down his face.
"Please, I was just trying to protect myself—"
Arthur's patience evaporated completely. "Protect yourself? You just called down sothing that has the ability to kill everyone in this building!"
Including Charlotte. If a part of her is touched because of your stupidity...I will make sure that you wish that your mother had not given birth to you!
Demons were dangerous, but foolish humans on your side were more dangerous.
Dave retrieved the dropped weapon, his composure evident in how he handled the civilian's mistake.
"Sir, what's our tactical assessnt?"
Arthur's eyes tried to keep track of the approaching demon's movent.
Each step brought him closer, but he was still sowhat far.
approximately 2 kilotres away. But he is closing in fast.
Arthur could see the demon jumping on buildings as he made his way. He was only able to see him because of their high ground point and twenty-twenty vision.
"Bad," Arthur replied tersely. "This is very bad."
The survivors pressed against the walls and watched in terror as their protectors faced sothing beyond their comprehension.
Children whimpered. Adults prayed. dical staff frowned as they sensed the impending doom.
