Chapter 1720: Chapter 1495: Conditions (Two in One)
“Overturning Water, are you out of your mind? You just outright rejected a task that landed in your lap?”
Qing Qi was so anxious she began hopping in place. This was a connected quest, and delivering the enigmatic scroll would earn hefty rewards. For the second part of the task, the rewards might be even better!
But what she completely didn’t expect was that Su Ran actually rejected it. She was utterly baffled, unable to fathom why Su Ran had refused so decisively.
If she were from the Human Race, she absolutely wouldn’t let such a task go to waste right in front of her eyes. Even begging for it, she’d make sure to secure the quest!
Unfortunately, she wasn’t.
“Human warrior, this task is tied to the hope of your race’s rise. Are you sure you won’t accept it?”
The Blind Granny looked at Su Ran with a gloomy expression. Clearly, his refusal had greatly displeased her.
“Senior, please find soone else fit for the job. This task is truly beyond . The exalted Human Emperor isn’t soone a small fry like could ever hope to et.”
Su Ran refused again, leaving absolutely no room for negotiation.
“You…”
The Blind Granny’s face completely fell. “A selfish, self-centered human, you truly disappoint ! Leave at once. You’re not welco here!”
“Goodbye, senior.”
Anyway, the quest rewards were already in hand, so why stick around? Perfect timing to take the chance and make his getaway!
“Overturning Water! You’re absolutely infuriating! Senior, he’s not usually like this—seems like he’s acting up today. Please don’t stoop to his level. If it really doesn’t work out, I’ll take on this quest! The alliance between humans and elves isn’t on the verge of collapse yet; let go and et the Human Emperor!”
Qing Qi couldn’t bear to miss this rare opportunity. She made every effort to seize the quest, her actions starkly contrasting Su Ran’s attitude.
“Hmph!”
The Blind Granny snorted coldly, ignoring Qing Qi entirely. Her razor-sharp gaze fixated on Su Ran’s retreating figure with a venomous expression, as if a snake sizing up its prey. When Su Ran was about ten steps away, she sighed softly and called out, “Human warrior, I’m willing to offer a dark gold treasure chest in exchange—I sincerely hope you can help with this.”
“Senior, while my own strength is fairly diocre, I’m soone who holds true to their principles. I don’t go back on my word—it’s my life creed. I wouldn’t change just for so small reward!”
Su Ran’s tone was firm and resolute, not a hint of wavering. However, the one notable difference was… he’d stopped walking.
“How about… adding this skill book to the offer?”
The Blind Granny wasn’t so naive elder; decades of life experience had made her a true expert at reading people. Catching the subtle shift in Su Ran’s deanor, she quickly followed up, pitching her final bargaining chip. If the quest weren’t so critical, she wouldn’t have stooped to appeasing this infuriating human.
“Senior, listen to your own words—do I really seem like soone who doesn’t know what’s good? I’m not persuaded by this dark gold treasure chest or the skill book. It’s just that my heart is too soft, and considering you’ve made it this far—how could I justify not helping you out?”
Grinning from ear to ear, Su Ran turned back around, his eyes practically sparkling. “By the way, can the quest reward be paid upfront?”
“…”
Qing Qi was completely stunned by Su Ran’s shaless stunt. She couldn’t have imagined in her wildest dreams that soone renowned as “Spilt Water Can’t Be Regained” could have skin this thick.
To even utter such audacious words—ordinary people couldn’t pull that off!
At least she’d never t anyone this brazenly unconventional. This guy was practically dragging the reputation of Human Race players through the mud!
Not only Qing Qi, but even the Blind Granny found herself utterly speechless, her wide eyes nearly popping out of their sockets. This black-robed human was likely the thickest-skinned individual she’d ever encountered in her entire life!
“Senior, I don’t know him.”
For the first ti, Qing Qi felt genuinely grateful that she didn’t belong to the sa species as Su Ran…
“Qing Qi, Sis, that’s unfair! Those two quest-related Stone Cores of yours—I helped you farm those! Now you’re burning bridges!”
Su Ran imdiately cut in, trying to explain, worried that the NPC might misunderstand his character even more. That’d be bad!
“Fine, I’ll revise my statent—let say it again. Senior, I really don’t want to know him.”
Mortified to the point of no return, Qing Qi looked completely defeated, losing all confidence in her voice as she spoke.
“Forget you. I don’t want to know him either. I’ve always thought humans were obsessed with money to the extre, but this one’s greed is straight up out of control.”
The Blind Granny, having lived for centuries, felt her worldview shaken today. If nothing else, she was finally about to get rid of the ill-fated scroll she’d safeguarded for so long—so long, she couldn’t even allow herself to die—only to wait for a worthy recipient!
And in the end, she’d been t with this… thing.
“Human warrior, your actions have truly shocked . If your race sohow produced soone as… outstanding as yourself, your ancestors’ graves must really be spewing lucky smoke!”
The Blind Granny pieced together a few words, despite her obvious reluctance, weakly trying to lighten the mood.
“It’s only proper.”
Su Ran nodded matter-of-factly. “Senior, you still haven’t answered my question. About the quest reward—can it be paid in advance?”
“What a drear! The reward will be given only after you deliver the scroll to the Human Emperor and return to with proof of completion.”
The Blind Granny stood firm on this point, her gaze frosty.
“In that case, there’s no helping it. I’m the kind of person who needs rewards in hand before I feel motivated to complete a task. Since you won’t agree, then farewell—please find soone else more capable.”
Su Ran knew his limits well. Having already angered this NPC, he was convinced that even if he finished the quest, he’d likely end up short-changed—or worse, lose his life. Instead of taking that risk, he decided to offend the woman thoroughly. If he couldn’t see any tangible rewards, he wasn’t about to take on such a dangerous task eting the Human Emperor face-to-face!
