At the sa ti.
New World, Dressrosa.
In a cold room.
The setting sun outside the window was like a giant's fingertip, slowly shining through the window into the ward.
The walls of the ward were grayish white, and a swaying electric fan hung overhead.
The whole room slled of disinfectant and blood, with an eerie aura of death.
A figure sat dejectedly at the head of the bed; the empty trouser legs on his feet looked shocking.
His long golden hair fell down listlessly, sticky, as if it had not been washed for many days.
He was the Golden Lion.
His body was covered in blood-stained bandages, but his face was like a sculpture, numb and stiff.
"Your injuries have almost recovered, Admiral Shiki."
"I believe there won't be any sequelae, so please rest assured."
The military doctor in a white coat quickly wrote sothing down in the dical record and said softly.
The Golden Lion nodded stiffly.
The pupils in his eyes that used to be full of arrogance and contempt were now empty.
He was like a living dead.
When the military doctor saw him like this, he heaved a long sigh in his heart.
He knew what happened on Fishman Island.
Naturally, he knew very well how much grief and pressure the man in front of him had been under during this period of ti.
He tried hard to force a smile on his face and opened his mouth as if he wanted to say a few words of comfort, but in the end, he couldn't utter a single word.
'What can I say?'
For the survivors on the battlefield, the pain hidden deep in their hearts that tornts and corrodes them like a nightmare, and the bottomless and indescribable self-bla cannot be alleviated by a few words from others.
He bowed silently to the golden lion, then turned and left the ward.
Perhaps what the Golden Lion needs now is so quiet ti alone.
Bang!
As the door of the ward slowly closed, the room returned to deathly silence again.
The only sound was the slow rotation of the fan above my head.
"Why did you save , you old bastard?"
At so point, the golden lion's wooden and dull face suddenly moved and made an extrely hoarse sound.
He raised his head and looked at the world outside through the window.
Not far away, there were children from Dressrosa playing and fighting.
There are many elderly people walking and chatting.
Further away, the smoke from the kitchens of Dressrosa gradually rose.
All the way to the end, he saw Fishman Island on the coast next to Dressrosa.
He pursed his lips tightly.
For a long ti he was just silent.
He just sat in front of the window in the ward, quietly looking at the world outside.
He didn't dare to step out of this cold room.
For him the outside world was like a nightmare.
He felt as if he had taken off his coat, shirt, skin, and flesh, and only a dried-up soul was left.
These days, he dreams every night.
The scene from Fishman Island that day would appear over and over again.
"Hurry and protect Admiral Golden Lion!!"
"Cover Admiral Shiki's retreat!!"
That's what they seem to say.
Unbearable mories ca flooding back like a tide, causing his entire body to tremble.
Those bloody scenes seed to have drained all his energy and made everything around him disappear.
He could no longer feel whether he was hot or cold.
He lowered his head and looked at his hands.
He looked at his skinny body again.
His entire body was corroded by self-bla and guilt, as if he was rejecting the world.
He didn't know if he could stand up again.
"Are you just going to sit here and spend the rest of your life in decadence?"
Suddenly, a low voice slowly ca from outside the door.
The golden lion was stunned.
The door was pushed open.
A figure exuding a cold aura walked in slowly.
Kuzan.
"Why are you still here?"
The golden lion asked hoarsely.
Kuzan smiled and said, "I'm not your enemy, so why can't I stay in Dressrosa?"
The golden lion looked at him, then turned his head away and stared blankly out the window again.
Kuzan looked at him silently.
At so point, he frowned and said in a deep voice:
"Do you know why Mr. Zephyr saved you? Besides asking you to rescue Fishman Island."
The golden lion grinned.
As if laughing mockingly:
"Maybe he's crazy."
"I've been thinking about this, too."
He didn't know what he rembered, and his eyes suddenly turned red.
"As you know, I'm a pirate."
He suddenly turned his head, his expression distorted, staring at Kuzan and gritting his teeth.
"Why did he have to save a piece of trash like !?"
Kuzan was silent.
He looked at the crazy, unbelievable face of the Golden Lion.
Suddenly he smiled softly.
"Because he's a great Marine."
The golden lion suddenly froze, his whole body frozen.
'Because he was a great marine.'
It was a very simple answer but often the truth was just that simple.
Zephyr, he believes in the truth, goodness, and beauty of this world.
Foolishly, stubbornly, naively believing.
Even if he dies, he will never look back.
Even if the person he rescued was once an unforgivable pirate.
But what's the problem with that?
As long as he thinks it's worth it, that's enough.
Kuzan suddenly threw a Den Den Mushi at the Golden Lion, turned around, and walked out of the room.
"They didn't want you to worry, so they didn't tell you. But I think you should see it."
"Don't let Mr. Zephyr's expectations of you go to waste."
Golden Lion stared blankly at the Den Den Mushi beside the bed, slowly stretched out his hand, and tremblingly turned on the video switch.
A tragic scene ca into view.
He held his breath for a mont, then he just choked with sobs.
