Chapter 64 - Battle of Sgri (7)
The third day of the Sgri Sea War...
After fighting non-stop without rest, all six combatants looked visibly exhausted. For a ti, the battlefield reached a tense stalemate.
In the distance, the volcanic eruptions had long ceased. Even the continuous extraction of magma could no longer keep up. The upper half of the 800-ter-tall magma giant had crumbled. It stood frozen in place, with molten rock slowly oozing from its broken torso, hardening as it cooled.
The blizzard had also co to an end. Half of the ocean, once frozen solid, began to lt back into seawater without the sustained cold.
Frank, whose stamina was weaker than the other five, had already stopped using his ability by the second day of the battle.
Hovering in the sky were three figures.
Shiki was covered in wounds, looking battered and worn. Frank had burn marks all over him, scorched black. Even Whitebeard's aura had grown much weaker, his strength dropping sharply.
The trio on the ground were in slightly better condition.
Kong and Garp, both top-tier martial artists, still carried strong fighting spirit. Though bruised, they had avoided serious injuries. However, when it ca to dealing with the three above who controlled the skies, they had no good counterasures.
Nearby, Sakazuki sat cross-legged on the ground. Behind him, the massive molten hand of his magma construct held a Sea King. At this point, he couldn't be bothered with appearances. He sliced off a big chunk of flesh and devoured it greedily.
As he ate, he thought about how to break the deadlock. Within monts, his entire body had filled out noticeably.
"Life Return."
His physical state began to recover. Muscles filled back out, injuries nded slightly, and his stamina surged anew.
When he looked up and saw the three in the sky also eating so fish to replenish themselves, he picked up two large pieces of at and walked toward Kong and Garp.
"Fleet Admiral Kong, Vice Admiral Garp."
He handed the at to them and began explaining his plan.
Kong's eyes lit up. "No ti to waste, Sakazuki."
Beside him, Garp nodded while stuffing at into his mouth, letting out muffled grunts of agreent.
Sakazuki gave a slight nod, then stepped forward and let his feet sink into the earth. His gaze turned skyward.
"teor Volcano."
His arms turned into smoking magma and rose upwards. Countless magma blasts fired from his hands, shooting deep into the clouds above.
The three in the sky watched the magma shells rise into the upper layers of the clouds. They didn't pay much attention.
Not until Sakazuki himself turned into a surge of magma and shot into the sky did a flicker of seriousness flash across their faces.
Shiki casually tore a bite off the fish in his hand and scoffed. "Tch. That damn magma brat. What's he up to now?"
He tossed the half-eaten fish aside and looked up. Whitebeard also gazed upward, his expression turning grim. Beside them, Frank no longer had that crazed look he wore when he first arrived.
Now, he quietly activated his powers. Snow and wind gathered around him as he stood alert, watching the two below.
No other reason—he had been taught a hard lesson.
After nearly getting his head blown off by one of Sakazuki's endlessly extending "Hellhound" attacks from the ground, he finally understood—in a fight at this level, he should just stick to support.
At so point, the sky had turned crimson.
Countless red dots began piercing through the clouds, densely filling the air. They looked like a sky full of stars, uncountable.
Each red dot was a huge magma fist.
Shiki and Whitebeard watched with narrowed eyes as the molten projectiles descended. They braced themselves, ready to defend against the incoming barrage.
But just as the fists reached a few hundred ters from them, they all detonated at once, releasing concentrated streams of lava in every direction.
In seconds, the fiery streaks wove together into a massive net of molten lines, all coated in Armant Haki. From afar, it looked like a giant bowl being flipped upside down, coming down toward the three n in the sky.
Shiki and Whitebeard imdiately understood Sakazuki's intent. Both let out a cold snort.
With a grunt, Whitebeard activated his ability. His left hand curled into a fist and punched upward.
Crack!
The atmosphere shattered. A powerful shockwave surged toward the descending net, smashing into the blazing "bottom of the bowl" above.
Boom!
The inverted bowl in the sky fractured from the impact, but the countless magma fists exploding behind it quickly patched the gap.
Whitebeard was about to throw another punch when an overwhelming sense of danger surged in his heart. The hair on the back of his neck stood up. At the sa ti, Frank's voice echoed in his ear.
"Watch out!"
Down below, Kong and Garp stood exactly where Sakazuki's feet had just fused with the ground. Two magma pillars erupted beneath them, launching the n skyward like cannons.
By the ti Frank finished his warning, the two were already closing in behind Whitebeard.
The pirate activated his ability with his left hand and spun around, swinging it backward with force.
Crack!
The shattered air collided with Garp's jet-black iron fist. The clash held for a mont, but Whitebeard was clearly being pushed back.
With a twist of his right hand, he spun his naginata outward and let it slide to the end of the handle. Haki and his Devil Fruit power flowed together into the blade. Swinging it in a wide arc, he slashed fiercely at Garp.
Clang!
Crack!
The blade clashed with Garp's iron fist. A mont later, Whitebeard's quake ability exploded on impact.
Garp let out a muffled grunt. His arm muscles bulged, veins throbbing as he pushed back against the powerful blow.
Beside them, Kong's arms surged with Armant Haki. At close range, he unleashed a powerful strike that sent Shiki and Frank flying.
High above, Sakazuki's form reappeared.
His body flared with his Crimson Lotus Mode. In his hand, he gripped a long magma spear, wrapped in dark, crackling Conqueror's Haki. His lower body beca a jet of erupting lava as he streaked toward Whitebeard like a blazing missile.
Shiki managed to send out a few slashes of sword to block him, but Kong quickly engaged him again, forcing him away.
The attacks struck Sakazuki, but with only a few crisp shattering sounds, they broke apart on impact.
Garp's veins bulged violently as he grappled with Whitebeard, locking him in place. The latter's eyes flashed with a dark glint. Haki surged over his back, and his Devil Fruit power began to circulate.
Clang!
A trendous force slamd down on them both. Sakazuki's spear pierced Whitebeard's back, searing through his Haki defenses.
Ssshh—!
The red-hot weapon sank deeper into flesh, its tip glowing as it pumped magma into the wound. Magma blasted from Sakazuki's back like a rocket, driving the spear even further into the pirate's body.
Crack!
Whitebeard activated his ability through his back. A shockwave burst out, shattering Sakazuki's spear mid-thrust. But the spear tip, compressed with dense magma, remained lodged inside.
Magma surged through Sakazuki's arm as a new spear rapidly ford in his hand, ready to strike again.
Suddenly, he jerked his head to the right. His eyes glead with golden light, locking onto a beam of light racing through the sky.
A massive laser, several ters wide, cut across the battlefield and engulfed him in an instant.
"Maser Cannon."
At the bow of a ship, a tall, beautiful woman lowered her longsword. Her voice rang out bold and commanding.
Two Homies drifted from her blade, swirling beside her.
The Big Mom Pirates had entered the battle.
