Adam’s old habits died hard. His phone’s alarm clock was still set to 6:00 AM in his new life. The quiet of his room was broken by the piercing chi. Just yesterday morning, he had been startled into a panic by the sa sound.

Adam opened his eyes. He sat up straight in bed. It was instinct. He began to bolt for the bathroom, throwing his legs over the side of the bed. He needed to prepare. He had to get to work on ti.

He stopped halfway to the bathroom door. His heart continued to race as he stood in the center of his tiny room. He recalled. Yesterday, he had lost his job. The thought no longer hurt. It was rely a fact.

Then the rest of the day’s mories flooded back. The man wearing the suit. The new cell phone. The app One-Click Billionaire.

He was suddenly struck by a horrible thought. What if everything had been a dream? He felt lightheaded from the intensity of the fear. He hurried back to his bed.

He grabbed his phone off the bedside table. He unlocked it with trembling hands. He looked wildly for the app. He located it.

There was still the ordinary black icon. Billionaire with a single click.

He gave it a tap. The application launched. He checked his equilibrium. Two million dollars. The number remained. It was authentic. A wave of deep relief swept over him. He lowered himself to the bed’s edge. It was not a dream.

It had been years since Adam had slept soundly. He had always been concerned about his future, his job, and his finances. For the first ti, he felt completely safe. He shut down the application.

He was aware that he could earn money at any ti. His bank account was worth two million dollars. He did not have to work. There was nothing for him to do.

For a long ti, he did not have to work to buy anything he wanted. He returned his cell phone to the bedside table. He reclined on the bed. Pulling the thin blanket up to his chin, he did so. Adam then resud his deep, restful sleep for the first ti in years.

In the apartnt next door Sophia was getting ready for her day. She was thinking about Adam. She had expected him to wake up early as usual. She had hoped to see him in the hallway.

But then she rembered. He had quit his old job. She thought about what he had told her. He had been so calm when he said he was fired.

He had even laughed. She knew how hardworking he was. She had seen it with her own eyes. The thought that he had lost his job stayed in her mind.

He claid to have found a new job. However, Sophia had a slight doubt when she recalled the expression on his face. He had appeared a bit too happy. A little too nonchalant.

It was the type of smile people wore to cover up sothing. She had the unshakeable impression that he was rely acting as though nothing was wrong.

In her apartnt, she waited. Adam would return her bowl, she thought. It was a valid reason to speak with him once more. However, he never showed up. She waited a long ti.

Sophia gave up at last. She needed to go to school. After getting ready, she walked out of her apartnt. She could picture Adam’s face when he announced that he had quit his job as she made her way to work. She desired to assist him. She simply had no idea how.

Adam slept all morning. He slept until the wee hours of the morning. It was around noon when he finally woke up. High in the sky was the sun. It ca in through his tiny apartnt’s one window.

He felt renewed. For the first ti in years, he felt rested. Above his head, he extended his arms. He was deeply satisfied.

Then his stomach rumbled. He was starving. Last night, he had not eaten since Sophia’s noodles. He considered cooking. The instant noodles in his cupboard ca to mind. But he did not want to cook at all.

He ca up with a fresh concept. He would eat out. He would eat at a restaurant for the first ti in years. An actual eatery. Not a fast-food joint.

The idea thrilled him. He stood up and put on his clothes. He put on a basic t-shirt and his best pair of clean jeans.

He put his phone in his pocket. He was prepared.

He left his apartnt complex. He went out into the street. It was like a physical blow from the heat. The ti was mid-afternoon. The sidewalk was being smashed by the sun.

The air was humid and heavy. No wind was present. Adam paused on the sidewalk. Sweat was beginning to trickle down his brow.

He glanced toward the closest eating places down the street.

The walk was lengthy. He considered going for a walk in this unbearable heat. He considered the noise and the packed streets. All of a sudden, going out to eat did not seem so appealing.

It was too hot for him to go outside. He imdiately canceled the plan. All he could do was prepare sothing at ho.
