"Why the sudden visit?" Chase Langdon asked.

Damian Rivers smiled. "I heard you’d all returned to the countryside. I’ve never really seen what the countryside is like, so I was curious and decided to co."

The woman roared again, "You two! Give the money first, then you can talk!"

Chase ignored her and said to Damian, "Let’s go inside first."

"Okay."

The two of them entered the courtyard.

The woman tried to follow, but the bodyguards at the gate stopped her.

Having no other choice, the woman left resentfully. Before she went, she secretly noted the emblem on Damian Rivers’s car.

Just then, Jean Kensington also ca out. She stood beside Chloe Sterling, her face full of surprise when she saw Damian Rivers walk in.

"What’s he doing here?"

Chloe Sterling pressed her lips together, saying nothing.

Damian Rivers cleared his throat. "I ca to see Chase. I wanted to see this hotown of his he described, with its beautiful mountains, clear waters, and lovely scenery. It really is nice. This place feels... spiritually charged."

Chloe turned and went back to her room.

Four bodyguards stood guard at her door, watching Damian Rivers warily.

Chase said, "Why are you doing this to yourself?"

Damian: "I really did co to see you."

Chase: "Haha."

Damian: "...Fine, don’t believe ."

Glancing around at the few rooms, Chase added, "My house is only so big. There are no spare rooms. Even if there were, you probably wouldn’t be used to it. What are you going to do?"

"I’m not staying here," Damian said. "I’m staying at an inn in town. I’ve already booked a room."

Chase: "...Alright, then."

Damian’s gaze fell on a wooden table in the courtyard, on which lay so dicinal herbs. He asked, "These are herbs, right? Did you pick them on the mountain?"

"Yeah, we just got back from picking them today."

"Are you going again tomorrow?"

"...We probably will."

A smile touched Damian’s lips. "Then I’ll go with you."

Chase gave him a complicated look and sighed softly.

Damian: "...What are you sighing for?"

Chase said, "I just think there’s no point to this. I know Chloe. Now that she’s chosen Jasper Lockwood, she won’t change her mind. What you’re doing is useless."

Damian raised an eyebrow. "Can’t we even be friends?"

Chase: "Then just let things be."

Jean Kensington followed Chloe Sterling back into the room.

"This Heir of the Rivers is pretty persistent, chasing you all the way out here. He knows you’re with Jasper Lockwood and still acts like this. That’s pretty brazen."

As she organized her things, Chloe said, "He thinks my relationship with Jasper Lockwood is just a transaction."

"Damn it! What’s his problem? Is he like that idiot Phoebe Sinclair, thinking you’re not worthy of being the wife of the Lockwood Group’s CEO?"

"I don’t think so. Like Silas Coldwell, he thinks Jasper Lockwood is... dangerous. That he’s not a good person."

Jean scoffed. "In this world, is there really such a thing as a purely good or bad person? For a top-tier wealthy family like the Lockwoods, Jasper would have had a hard ti just surviving if he didn’t have a few tricks up his sleeve. For power and status, which one of them has completely clean hands? They’re all cut from the sa cloth, so no one’s in a position to judge anyone else!"

Chloe smiled. "You see things quite clearly."

"Of course. I’ve seen too much of it growing up. Crestfall is a prosperous city, but behind all that glamour are endless bloody struggles. To be honest, I never wanted you to get mixed up with these powerful families, but since you like Jasper Lockwood, that’s a different story. A connection like that is rare and precious. When you find it, you have to go for it with everything you’ve got."

"Don’t worry, I know what I’m doing."

"I believe in you."

A little while later, Jean went back to her room to check on the baby.

Suddenly, the sound of a fight broke out outside. Chloe imdiately stood up and looked out the window.

It was her four bodyguards fighting with Damian Rivers’s two bodyguards.

Imdiately after, a knock ca at the door, and Damian’s voice followed. "Chloe, it’s ."

Chloe walked over and opened the door.

Damian gazed at her, his spirits low. "Do you hate that much? We can’t even be friends? I’m the Heir of the Rivers, for goodness’ sake. I can’t be that bad, can I?"

"It’s not about hate," Chloe said coolly. "This is just how I am—bad-tempered, cold, and boring. There’s no point in being friends with ."

"But you’re not like that with Chase."

"We’ve known each other for ten years."

"So it’s a matter of ti? But you haven’t known Julian Xavier for that long, and you two seem to get along just fine."

Suddenly, a loud BANG ca from the courtyard.

Chloe imdiately strode outside.

She saw that the wooden table had collapsed, scattering the dicinal herbs all over the ground. Her expression instantly turned icy. "All of you, stop!"

At her command, they all imdiately stopped fighting.

Damian demanded in a cold voice, "Who did this?"

A bodyguard from the Lockwood Residence sneered. "It was Young Master Rivers’s n, of course. Why would we destroy the herbs our lady worked so hard to pick!"

Damian’s expression faltered. He had only wanted his two n to hold off the other four so he could go find Chloe. He never expected them to knock over her herbs. He glared at his n and barked, "Well? Pick them up!"

"Yes, sir."

"Yes, sir."

The two n imdiately began picking up the herbs from the ground, but with the table broken, the question was where to put them.

"Young Master, where... where do we put these?"

Damian coughed awkwardly and asked Chloe, "Where do they go?"

Chloe: "Fix the table. Then put them back."

Damian imdiately ordered his bodyguards, "Fix the table."

The two n: "...Yes, Young Master."

Chloe looked at her four n and instructed, "You too."

The four n: "...Yes, Ma’am."

And so, the six bodyguards got so tools and nails from Chase and started repairing the table. It took them quite a while to patch it up, after which they put the herbs back on it.

That night, one of the bodyguards quietly slipped away to a spot with better reception and called Jasper Lockwood. He reported that Damian Rivers had suddenly shown up in the countryside and had even used his own bodyguards to block them so he could see Chloe alone.

Jasper Lockwood was with Tristan Sinclair at the ti.

Hearing this, his expression instantly turned cold. ’He had just gotten rid of Silas Coldwell, and now Damian Rivers had shown up.’

"Understood." After saying that, Jasper Lockwood hung up.

Noticing his dark expression, Tristan Sinclair asked, "What’s wrong? Did sothing happen?"

Jasper’s long, pale fingers gripped his wine glass. He swirled the contents gently and said coolly, "It’s nothing. Just soone looking for trouble."

Tristan: "Who managed to offend you this ti?"

Jasper: "The Rivers Family."

Tristan: "..."

The Sinclair and Rivers families were old family friends, and Tristan knew Damian Rivers. Their relationship could even be considered pretty good.

However, the two hadn’t seen much of each other recently, so he had no idea that Damian had his eyes on Chloe Sterling.

"The Rivers Family dared to offend you? That can’t be right, can it?"

Jasper Lockwood just scoffed without explaining, but he was clearly very displeased.
