On the Day I Was Kicked Out of the Wealthy Family, I Had a Flash Marriage with a Tycoon Chapter 54: Like a Family of 3
"I’ll take him. You two can talk." Chloe Sterling took the baby’s small hand. "Co on, baby. Your godmother will take you to bed."
The baby followed Chloe Sterling to the bedroom.
Jasper Lockwood didn’t press the issue and sat back down.
Tristan Sinclair chuckled. "Why don’t you go with them? Get so early practice on how to take care of a kid."
Jasper Lockwood shot him a look. "You should worry about yourself."
Tristan Sinclair leaned back, his voice languid. "Love is sothing you find, not sothing you can force. There’s no point in worrying about it. What’s ant to be will be. Maybe one day I’ll turn around, look over my shoulder, and there she’ll be—the love of my life."
In the bedroom, Chloe Sterling waited until the baby was asleep before quietly slipping out. She instructed a maid to keep an eye on him.
Jasper Lockwood and Tristan Sinclair’s conversation had shifted to corporate business, as well as how to deal with Silas Coldwell.
Chloe Sterling had actually been thinking about this herself for the past two days. ’This can’t go on,’ she thought. ’I have to find a way to stop this war between Silas Coldwell and Jasper Lockwood.’
’But what would it take to make Silas Coldwell stop?’
"Chloe..."
"Chloe..."
Jasper Lockwood called her na twice before Chloe Sterling snapped out of her thoughts and looked at him. "Hm? What is it?"
"Are you going to The dical College tomorrow?"
"Yes, I am. Why?"
"I’ll go with you, then. As it happens, I have so things to discuss with Director Xavier."
Chloe had been lost in thought and hadn’t heard their conversation. ’How did the topic switch to this?’ she wondered, but simply replied, "Okay."
"I’ll wait to hear from you, then." With that, Tristan Sinclair stood up. "It’s getting late. I should be going."
"Stay for dinner," Jasper Lockwood said. "It’s been a while since we all got together."
Tristan Sinclair’s eyes swept over the pair, and he smiled. "No, I’d better not. I won’t interrupt your little family of three today. We’ll get together another ti."
With that, he turned and walked out.
Jasper Lockwood and Chloe Sterling walked him out to the courtyard.
After Tristan Sinclair left, Jasper Lockwood grasped Chloe Sterling’s wrist and pulled her into his arms. "What were you thinking about just now? You were completely lost in thought."
"What are you doing at The dical College tomorrow? Are you really going to see Director Xavier?"
"Of course. Would I lie to you?"
"You lied to last ti, didn’t you?" Chloe Sterling countered, ruthlessly calling his bluff.
Jasper Lockwood replied with a straight face, "The plan changed that ti. Don’t change the subject. What were you thinking about just now? You didn’t even hear calling your na."
"Just so personal business. It has nothing to do with you."
"Is that so?" Jasper Lockwood was skeptical.
He and Tristan Sinclair had been discussing Silas Coldwell, and he’d noticed she started to zone out the mont she heard Silas’s na.
Jasper Lockwood suspected she was planning to do sothing again.
Chloe Sterling said with a serious expression, "Of course. Would I lie to you?"
The topic was dropped. Without another word, they went back into the villa.
Henry Chamberlain had sothing to report.
At the sa ti, Chloe Sterling’s phone rang. It was Jean Kensington. Chloe stepped aside to answer. "Are you finished with your errand?"
"Not yet," Jean Kensington said. "I’ve discovered sothing."
"What is it?"
"People from Apex Group in Country A have shown up in Crestfall. It looks like they’re after you, too."
"Apex Group..." After a mont of thought, Chloe Sterling recalled what she knew about them. It was a massive, wealthy pharmaceutical conglorate from Country A that specialized in developing neuropsychiatric drugs. They had sent people to recruit her before, but she had turned them down.
She had no desire to live abroad long-term; she only wanted to stay in her own country. So, no matter what tactics those organizations used—threats or temptations—she had never once given in.
Besides, she had hidden her identity so well. No one besides Silas Coldwell should have been able to find her.
"How did they find ?" Chloe Sterling wondered.
"Could it be... Silas Coldwell?" Jean Kensington guessed. "Do you think he’s planning to team up with Apex Group to go after Jasper Lockwood and take you away from him?"
"No." Chloe Sterling was certain on this point. "Silas Coldwell would never do that. He wants to be the only person in the world who can find ."
"That’s strange, then. I scattered false trails about you all over the world. Under normal circumstances, they shouldn’t have been able to track your location. How in the world did they figure out you’re in Crestfall?"
Chloe Sterling’s eyes narrowed. "It doesn’t matter how they found out. It looks like I’ll have to throw them off the scent again."
"What do you have in mind?"
"Let think about it. I’ll tell you once I have a plan."
"Okay. I should be back around 7 PM. You and the baby can wait for at the apartnt."
"Okay. I’ll bring him back after he wakes up."
After hanging up, Chloe Sterling turned to look at Jasper Lockwood. He was sitting on the sofa, his expression coolly handso, betraying nothing unusual. His thin lips were slightly parted as he gave an order.
As Chloe Sterling walked toward him, Henry Chamberlain discreetly withdrew.
"Jasper Lockwood," Chloe Sterling said, sitting down beside him. "I have to take the baby back to his mother this evening, so I can’t have dinner with you."
"Mm," Jasper Lockwood said. "As it happens, I have to go out for sothing as well. I might be back late."
「anwhile.」
On the top floor of a hotel, a man stood before a massive floor-to-ceiling window, gazing down at the sprawling city below. His eyes were deep as he murmured, "Twenty years... Crestfall has changed so much."
The man was in his early forties, with a profound air about him. He had a tall, slender, and upright build, with a handso face that made him look much younger than his actual age.
A mont later, a male assistant approached. "Sir, you were looking for ."
The man turned around and ordered, "Have soone clean up the old family ho. I’ll be moving in."
The assistant looked surprised, but he didn’t press for details, simply nodding. "Yes, sir."
"Are you certain that Lynn Chester is in Crestfall?" the man asked.
"We have confird intelligence. She is definitely in Crestfall."
"Good. Find her, no matter what it takes."
"Understood, sir."
.....
After the baby woke up, Chloe Sterling got him sothing to eat. They played for a while, and when it was about ti, she took him back to the apartnt.
They hadn’t been ho for long when Jean Kensington returned, looking thoroughly annoyed.
Seeing her expression, Chloe Sterling asked with concern, "What’s wrong? Did things not go well at work?"
"Not that." Jean Kensington scoffed. "It’s just... talk about a small world. The one person you don’t want to run into is exactly who you see. It’s just bad luck."
Thinking of the own "unlucky" people she always seed to run into, Chloe Sterling nodded in agreent. "It really is a small world."
Just then, the baby walked over with a cup of water and thoughtfully offered it to his mother.
Seeing her sweet, thoughtful son, all of Jean Kensington’s bad mood instantly vanished. She took the cup, knelt down, and hugged the baby. "My son is the best."
The baby gave her a heartwarming smile and pulled his mother over to sit on the sofa.
"So, did the work eting go well?" Chloe Sterling asked.
"Perfectly." Jean Kensington took a sip of water. "I showed off a little of my skills, and it blew their minds."
Chloe Sterling wasn’t surprised in the least. "I doubt anyone would ever guess," she said casually, "that the infamous hacker, Whisper, would take a job at so small tech company."
