On the Day I Was Kicked Out of the Wealthy Family, I Had a Flash Marriage with a Tycoon Chapter 172: The Little Beauty is So Fierce
Tristan Sinclair smirked. "I just noticed soone wasn’t in the best of moods. I figured he might cheer up a little when you got back. And just as I thought, the mont you walked in, he’s a different man."
Chloe Sterling glanced at Jasper Lockwood, but before she could say anything, he cut in, "Don’t listen to his nonsense."
"Nonsense?" Tristan Sinclair glanced at Jasper Lockwood, then turned to Henry Chamberlain. "Henry, you tell us. What kind of look did your boss have on his face just now? And be honest."
Henry Chamberlain gave a strained laugh. "Isn’t the boss always like this?"
Tristan Sinclair said, "Forget it. I knew you wouldn’t dare tell the truth."
Henry Chamberlain: "..."
’Then why did you even ask !’
Chloe Sterling cleared her throat. "You two keep talking. I’m just going to head upstairs."
"Go ahead," Jasper Lockwood said, his voice gentle.
Chloe Sterling turned and went upstairs.
Watching her retreat, Tristan Sinclair murmured, "Do you two even exchange ten words a day?"
Jasper Lockwood shot him a glare and said coldly, "Stop staring."
Tristan Sinclair withdrew his gaze and chuckled. "Why the double standard? I don’t recall offending you recently, have I?"
Jasper Lockwood’s dark eyes stared at him for a mont before he suddenly asked, "When are you leaving for Country A?"
Tristan Sinclair leaned back and said languidly, "I head out on the first of next month."
"You’ll be there for half a year?"
"Mhm, around that long. Four or five months, minimum." As he spoke, Tristan Sinclair gave a teasing smile. "Don’t miss too much."
Jasper Lockwood glanced at him but didn’t speak.
Aside from Chloe Sterling, Jasper Lockwood treated everyone with this sa cold deanor. Tristan Sinclair didn’t mind. After all, the two of them had a life-and-death bond, and he knew what the real Jasper Lockwood was like.
After a good while, Jasper Lockwood spoke again. "Watch yourself over there. Those old geezers in Country A aren’t easy to deal with."
"I know." Tristan Sinclair picked up his teacup and took a sip, adding languidly, "If it weren’t for my future plans, I really couldn’t be bothered to deal with them."
「Upstairs, in the study.」
After checking the information in her email, Chloe Sterling shut down her computer. She had just stepped out of the study when her phone suddenly rang. It was an unknown number.
She stared at it for a mont before pressing the answer button. "Hello?"
Zane Stratton’s anxious voice ca through the phone. "Miss Chester, where are you? Can you please co see our boss? Sothing’s happened to him."
"Sothing happened to Silas Coldwell?" Chloe Sterling’s voice was tinged with disbelief.
"The boss has been poisoned! It’s an extrely rare toxin. The doctors and Pharmacists are all helpless. You might be the only one who can save him! Miss Chester, I’m begging you, please save our boss."
Chloe Sterling gripped her phone, silent for a mont before finally asking, "Is he playing so kind of trick again?"
"No! I swear on my life! I’m absolutely not lying to you—the boss is really in trouble. Miss Chester, you wouldn’t just stand by and let soone die, would you?"
"Then how is he now? What are the symptoms?"
"His whole body is turning purple, he’s unconscious, and his breathing is getting weaker." Zane Stratton’s voice trembled slightly. "Miss Chester, I know you can’t accept so of the things the boss has done. But he had no choice. In his position, there are so many things he’s forced to do. He can’t help it. He doesn’t have a choice.
I know you want to cut all ties with him, but you can still treat the sick and save a life, right? For the sake of the help he’s given you in the past, can’t you save him just one more ti?"
Zane Stratton’s tone didn’t sound like he was lying. After thinking for a mont, Chloe Sterling ultimately found she couldn’t bear to stand by and let soone die. She then asked, "Where are you?"
"We’re at the company. I’ll send you the location. Miss Chester, thank you. Thank you so much."
Chloe Sterling hung up. A mont later, a ssage with the location from Zane Stratton arrived. She looked at the ssage, then glanced downstairs.
Both Jasper Lockwood and Tristan Sinclair were down there. She couldn’t tell them the truth—especially not Jasper. He probably wished Silas Coldwell would just drop dead.
Although he annoyed her so much that she sotis wished for the sa thing, when it was truly a matter of life and death, she couldn’t bring herself to abandon him. She was also aware that Silas Coldwell had been helping her conceal her identity and even taking care of so problems for her.
She went back downstairs.
The two n were still discussing business. Chloe Sterling looked at Jasper Lockwood and announced, "Jasper, I have to go out for a bit. It’s urgent."
Jasper Lockwood glanced at the darkening sky outside. "You have to go out this late? Dinner will be ready soon."
Chloe Sterling looked at the two of them. "You two go ahead and eat. Don’t wait for ."
After a brief pause, Jasper Lockwood said, "Then let Henry Chamberlain drive you."
"That’s not necessary, I’ll go by myself. You two get back to your business."
Chloe Sterling left the villa.
Tristan Sinclair raised an eyebrow. "Your little beauty is quite the busy bee. It’s so late at night... if you’re worried, why don’t you go with her?"
Jasper Lockwood’s deep, almond-shaped eyes watched her retreating figure. After a good while, his thin lips parted. "Henry, send n to protect the Madam."
Henry Chamberlain bowed his head. "Yes, sir."
Tristan Sinclair chuckled, gloating, "So there’s finally soone you can’t handle."
Jasper Lockwood clearly hadn’t wanted Chloe Sterling to go out, but he couldn’t use the sa domineering, decisive force on her that he wielded in the business world, leaving him looking rather helpless.
Jasper Lockwood retracted his gaze and looked at him, saying seriously, "We’re married. A single man like you wouldn’t understand this kind of dynamic."
Tristan Sinclair: "..."
About halfway to her destination, Chloe Sterling noticed a car tailing her. Unsure of who they were, she floored it, switched lanes, and quickly lost them.
The two bodyguards in the car looked distressed.
"Where’s the Madam? Where’d she go?"
"I don’t know. She was too fast. I lost her."
"So what now? Do we search for her, or do we tell the boss?"
Staring at the endless stream of traffic ahead, the man frowned. "We’ll never find her now. Let’s just report to the boss first."
"Could the Madam be a forr race car driver? She’s wild!"
「The Lockwood Residence, dining room.」
Jasper Lockwood and Tristan Sinclair were drinking.
Henry Chamberlain walked in, his face grim. He looked at Jasper Lockwood and stamred, "Sir..."
"What is it?" Jasper Lockwood asked without looking up, swirling the wine in his glass.
"The Madam... she... she lost the n we sent to follow."
Tristan Sinclair blinked, surprised. "Your little beauty is really sothing else!" He laughed, then added, "Worthy of the Mysterious Pharmacist that none of the major powers can track down."
"Which direction did she go?" Jasper Lockwood asked.
Henry Chamberlain replied, "Toward the city center, I believe. Um... should I have the intel team run a trace?"
Jasper Lockwood pressed his thin lips together and said nothing.
Henry Chamberlain understood this as a silent approval and turned to leave.
Tristan Sinclair also saw that Jasper’s silence was a tacit approval for Henry to investigate. Wiping the teasing smile from his face, he said, "You’re keeping such a tight leash on her. With your little beauty’s temper, she’s not going to be happy about that, is she?"
Jasper Lockwood took a sip of his wine, then said, "Her safety is more important than her being unhappy."
