Chapter 363: Chapter 363: Give an Inch, Take a Mile

Leng Yu Yan ran over to Ye Yiheng, looked up at him, and asked, “I returned the comb to him, can you tell what it ans when a man gives a woman a comb?”

Although she did not want to know what Jiang Xuan ant by giving her a comb, she was curious about the wooden comb he had made for her.

Ye Yiheng stood before her, his eyes clear and lustrous like jade, carrying gentle ripples and a shallow smile. “A comb is used to comb hair, symbolizing growing old together and entwined lives forever.”

To think there was such deep aning behind it, she had naively thought it was simply a man showing interest in a woman by giving her a comb to express his feelings.

Hearing the profound implication, she quickly pulled soone back to the room.

After closing the door, she asked in a soft voice, “Does the wooden comb you gave carry the sa aning?”

Ye Yiheng replied, “More or less.”

His voice was cool, with a hint of nonchalance.

She asked again, “What do you an by ‘more or less’?”

After a long silence, he answered lightly, “Our business deal involves marrying, and I have no plans of divorcing, so you can take it in that sense.”

Upon hearing this, Leng Yu Yan suddenly felt a sense of loss, so his focus was on the unclear entanglent.

Upon reflection, what was there for her to feel down about? What was she expecting, after all?

Yet, her heart suddenly felt confused.

Moreover, he added, “When did I say that comb was for you? I made it for myself, for my inexplicably newfound sister, that’s all right, isn’t it?”

She pursed her lips and looked down, “No problem.”

He turned his head to look at her, “Why, do you regret returning the sheep horn comb?”

“I don’t regret it at all!”

Her voice raised a notch.

Ye Yiheng grabbed her hand and placed the comb in her hand, “Try it out.”

Leng Yu Yan undid her hair tie.

At Aunt’s house, she used Aunt’s comb, and since leaving their ho, she hadn’t combed her hair for several days.

What was the point of worrying about why he made the comb?

Setting aside her doubts, she smoothed her hair and then tied it into a ponytail.

The wooden teeth combing through her scalp suddenly made her feel much better.

“It works well, Jiang Xuan said new wooden combs catch the hair, but it didn’t catch at all.”

At her words, his usually reserved face softened.

Leng Yu Yan set the comb down on the desk, seemingly casually asking, “Have you had lunch?”

He honestly replied, “No.”

Leng Yu Yan pointed to a bundle, “There’s still so dry food in the bag, have so.”

Ye Yiheng sat down at the desk, his expression indifferent, “My hand is hurting, could you feed ?”

Hearing this, a look of astonishnt crossed the beautiful and delicate face of Leng Yu Yan, “Your left hand is hurting, your right hand is fine.”

Ye Yiheng stretched out his right hand for her to see, the palm had a fresh cut.

“How did this hand get injured too?” she frowned.

“Accidentally cut it.” After a pause, he then asked again, “So, can you feed ?”

She sighed deeply, it taking a while before she nodded, “Alright.”

She opened the bundle, sifted through it to a cloth bag, and asked him, “There’s dry food in the bag, and so stead buns. Are the buns still good? They were made on the sixth, today’s the ninth.”

“With the weather this cold, they should be fine.”

As he spoke, Ye Yiheng internally scoffed, finding himself in a situation where eating several days old buns still seed acceptable.

Leng Yu Yan took two buns, sat down at the table, broke off a small piece, and placed it by his lips, then poured him a cup of water.

Ye Yiheng ate thodically, only now truly understanding the value of cherishing food.

He could now enjoy the finely refined white stead buns, yet how many civilians within the Tiansheng Territory were still struggling to fill their stomachs?

Take this boat ride as an example, the majority of civilians were in the civilian cabin.

Aunt and the old man’s son and daughter-in-law had been running boats for many years, how much Silver Coin had they managed to earn?

The Tiansheng Royal Family lived in extravagant corruption, among them, how many had truly experienced the common people’s suffering?

His Father Emperor only cared about eternal longevity, and his brothers were consud by cutthroat competition, fighting for power and profit.

Upon reflection, if he had not undergone this experience, he would not have such deep feelings. At most, he would have read about it in books, but how could what is written in books compare to what is seen with one’s own eyes in terms of profoundness?

Leng Yu Yan watched him eat quietly, and knowing that he had a rule of not speaking while eating, she maintained her silence.

What surprised her was that after so buns, he said with a smile, “I haven’t combed my hair in several days, could you help tie it up?”

Leng Yu Yan gritted her teeth, the man claid possession of the comb, but it wasn’t given to her, just for her to use; how audacious of him to push his luck like this!

“Tying a man’s hair, this…”

He then shook his injured hand again.

Helplessly, she stood up from her chair and went behind him to tie his hair.

If they really got married, even if there were no feelings, she supposed their interactions could still be considered acceptable, Leng Yu Yan thought.

Ye Yiheng lowered his eyelids, a triumphant smile flickering in his eyes.

At this mont in the Imperial Palace.

Ye Gaoyun sat behind the imperial desk, truly embodying the form of the Emperor, beneath him knelt a mass of assassins.

“Is the cliff area thoroughly searched?”

His voice was cold, and if the assassins looked up, they would find his expression even colder.

An assassin reported, “It snowed a few days ago, the weather has cleared up recently, the snow on the cliff is slowly lting, we…”

“So, you are saying you didn’t check during the past few days?”

Ye Gaoyun put down his teacup forcefully, startling the reporting individual so much that he shivered, his posture on the ground becoming even more groveling.

“Your Highness, we did check the past few days, it just beca easier in the last two days.”

“What did you find?”

“There is no corpse at the bottom of the valley, we don’t know if it was dragged off by wild beasts or if soone rescued him, but we found the Abolished Crown Prince’s horse carriage hanging from a crooked-neck tree.”

Ye Gaoyun scoffed, “The carriage hanging on the tree, what about the horse?”

“The horse has naturally disappeared without a trace.”

Ye Gaoyun slapped the table, barked coldly, “I am asking you if there was any horse’s corpse at the bottom of the valley?”

At this question, the assassins exchanged glances.

Seeing this, Ye Gaoyun guessed the answer, snarled savagely, “Even if it was eaten by wild beasts, there would be so traces left, now that there is no trace of the horse’s corpse, it ans the Abolished Crown Prince is still alive.”

“A bunch of fools!” Ye Gaoyun stood up and bellowed, “Aren’t you continuing the pursuit?”

The assassins stood and acknowledged, hastily departing.

At this ti, Eunuch Ye ca forward cheerfully, adding tea for Ye Gaoyun.

“Your Highness, you are now governing the country, you need to manage all the affairs of the nation, your health is important!”

Ye Gaoyun sipped his tea, asked indifferently, “How is the Father Emperor doing now?”

Eunuch Ye grinned even wider, “The Emperor is in the company of Beauty Wang and several other beauties, thoroughly indulging in pleasure.”

“What about making the Crown Prince?”

“This…” Eunuch Ye choked.

Ye Gaoyun waved his hand, and Eunuch Ye promptly withdrew.

Watching Eunuch Ye leave, Ye Gaoyun sneered, if it weren’t for the need of the old undying’s personal signature on the Imperial Decree appointing the Crown Prince, he wouldn’t have kept the old man alive till today.
