I didn’t feel like wasting another breath on Clara Langley, so I just hung up and blocked her.
"Clara Langley?" Chloe Miller frowned and leaned in.
I nodded. "She said Senior Forrest used his connections to get all her endorsent deals pulled."
"Well done!" Chloe Miller was ecstatic.
A small smile touched my lips. I had to admit, it felt pretty satisfying.
With my current capabilities, there wasn’t much I could do besides release the evidence I had and burn all my bridges with Theodore Grant and Clara Langley.
’Thank goodness for Senior Forrest...’
Thinking of Sebastian Forrest, a small ripple stirred in my heart.
But I quickly suppressed that strange feeling, silently warning myself not to cross any lines.
The disparity in our statuses was just too great. Falling for him wouldn’t lead to a happy ending.
And when it cos to love, getting burned once was enough. I didn’t want to make the sa mistake again.
...
I had to admit, the equipnt in the voice-over booth was incredible. I used "calibrating" as an excuse to try it out, and the recording quality was absolutely stunning!
"Whoa! Your voice just now sounded amazing!"
The mont I stepped out of the recording booth, Chloe Miller rushed over, her face alight with excitent. She grabbed my arm and shook it back and forth. "My ears were about to get pregnant listening to you in there!"
I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. "Aren’t you exaggerating a little?"
"What are you two talking about?"
Just as Chloe Miller and I were laughing and chatting, Sebastian Forrest walked over with a gentle smile. "What’s all the excitent about?"
"We were just talking about the audio equipnt..." I pointed at the recording booth behind . "The specs on this setup are a bit much. Even Wind-Whisper’s gear isn’t this high-end."
Sebastian Forrest chuckled. "I don’t know much about this stuff. I just figured the more expensive, the better."
I nodded along. "Definitely. Besides the price tag, everything about them is a plus."
"Anything else?" Sebastian Forrest raised an eyebrow. "Is there anything that needs to be changed?"
"Nope. The place is fully equipped."
"If there are no other issues, I’ll have soone post the job listings online now. As for the interviews, you’ll be in charge. Is that alright?"
"?" I looked at him, completely surprised.
"Of course. I don’t know anything about this, so naturally, you’ll have to be the one to put in the effort."
’That’s true.’
’As the saying goes, ’Different professions are separated by a mountain.’’
’Sebastian Forrest had already set up this whole voice acting company, an investnt that must be in the tens of millions. Without an industry insider to manage it, it would probably go bankrupt and liquidate within a few months.’
"Alright," I nodded.
...
For the next few days, I was busy handling matters for the voice acting company. The days were hectic, but fulfilling.
With only two days left until the divorce certificate beca effective, I received a call from my mother-in-law.
"Chelsea, it’s been a while. I received the things you sent . Thank you..."
"You don’t have to thank ." I couldn’t help but press my lips together. "Has your health been better lately?"
"Sa as always. It’s an old problem." My mother-in-law coughed a few tis. "Do you have ti now? I’d like to et with you, if that’s okay."
I hesitated. With the divorce so close to being finalized, I didn’t want any new complications to arise.
But just as I was trying to think of how to refuse, I heard my mother-in-law sigh. "It’s just... it’s been a long ti, and I miss you."
My heart clenched. I couldn’t help but think of my own mother...
’She always spoke to with that sa loving gentleness...’
While I was wrestling with what to do, my mother-in-law seed to guess my hesitation and quickly added, "Don’t worry, we’ll et out sowhere. Not at the Grant Family’s house. We won’t run into that pair!"
I gave a helpless smile, knowing the "pair" she was referring to were Vincent Lombard and Theodore Grant.
"Okay. Send the address, and I’ll head over."
"Good, good, good." Her voice was filled with delight. "I’ll send it right away."
A small smile touched my lips as well. Shortly after hanging up, I received a text ssage.
My mother-in-law had chosen a teahouse not far from the Grant Family estate, about a ten-minute drive.
I followed the address and made my way there.
But when I pushed open the door to the private room, I found that my mother-in-law wasn’t alone.
"Chelsea, you’re here!"
My mother-in-law quickly stood up to welco .
I composed myself and walked toward her, but my gaze fell on the old butler standing behind her. "Mr. King, you’re here too?"
"Young Madam," the old butler said, his face full of respect.
I quickly waved my hand at him. "Mr. King, just call Chelsea. I’m not the Young Madam anymore."
At my words, a flicker of sadness crossed my mother-in-law’s face, but she quickly replaced it with a smile and pulled down to sit beside her.
The old butler hurried to pour us tea, and the fragrance of it soon filled the private room.
My mother-in-law and I exchanged pleasantries for a bit before I glanced at the old butler and said, "Auntie, you probably didn’t ask here today just to catch up, did you? There’s sothing else you wanted to tell , right?"
My mother-in-law grasped my hand. "Chelsea, you’re as sharp as ever!"
She heaved a heavy sigh, her face filled with resentnt. "That boy, Theo, is a complete and utter idiot! To think he’d fall for a detestable bitch like Clara Langley!"
I pressed my lips together and said nothing.
The day after tomorrow was when Theodore Grant and I were to get our divorce papers, but it was also the day of his and Clara Langley’s engagent party.
Invitations to their engagent party had already been sent all over Kington, and the news had been a trending topic on Weibo for days. From the looks of it, the buzz wasn’t dying down anyti soon.
"Chelsea, I did ask you here today to ask a favor of you..." My mother-in-law took a deep breath and looked at . "Do you rember when I was poisoned?"
My heart tightened, and I nodded instinctively.
"I’ve already asked Mr. King. He said Holly Shaw was set up as the scapegoat. The condition was that they would cover all of her son’s dical expenses..."
’Of course!’
There wasn’t a hint of surprise on my face; it was exactly as I had guessed.
’To Clara Langley, my mother-in-law was the only person standing in her way. Only by getting rid of her could she bring the entire Grant Family under her control. After all, she had even won over Vincent Lombard...’
"Chelsea, don’t tell you already knew who the poisoner was?" my mother-in-law asked, looking at with surprise when she saw how calm I was.
I pursed my lips but nodded anyway. "I had my suspicions. I know a bit about Holly Shaw’s character, and she would never do sothing like poisoning soone."
"You’re right." My mother-in-law’s lips tightened, and her voice grew heavy. "I also knew it wasn’t Holly Shaw who poisoned . But I never, ever would have imagined that it was that bastard Vincent Lombard! He wants dead!"
"Vincent Lombard? How could it be him?"
My jaw dropped in shock. I obviously hadn’t expected him to be the poisoner!
’So it wasn’t Clara Langley?’
