Chapter 689: The Gathering adows (Ch.690)

The Fae Clan Lord was Lord Fintan of the Spring Fae Clan, a noble blooded Fae of an ancient and prestigious lineage.

He was young compared to most of the Fae Clan leaders, only a century and six decades unwilted, but Lord Fintan was well respected amongst the Fae for his prowess in nature magic,

The spring forest governed by Lord Fintan was one of the most flourishing regions in the Fae territory, and a haven of nature’s very essence that fairies of other clans could only hope to visit.

By influence and magical prowess, Lord Fintan was comparable to Lady Diandre, albeit much younger than the Fae royal representative.

However, influential and well respected as Lord Fintan was, he lacked just one advantage that would have placed him on the sa level as Lady Diandre... and that was the royal blood of the High Queen’s lineage.

"Step...down?" Lady Diandre hissed in a low tone, repeating the phrase with each word enunciated like they were unfamiliar to her.

Lady Diandre knew her advantage over Lord Fintan was absolute, it was why no one had dared challenge her all these centuries despite their dissent.

And once again, Lady Diandre strongly believed her advantage would trump over this difficulty, she only needed to maintain her composure.

"I am certain that present here in this gathering, there are many others of the sa opinion. Representing the dissatisfaction of hundreds of their respective clan mbers." Lord Fintan spoke, gesturing with a hand around the gathering adows.

"I for one represent the spring Fae clan, which as we all know clearly accounts for 30% of our total population, a respectable sum, given that there are thirteen Fae clans...left." Lord Fintan trailed off.

His final statent drew the minds of all who were gathered to the unforgettable reality that there were just thirteen Fae clans left of the original twenty one great Fae clans, seven of which were completely annihilated by the dragon dynasty for dabbling in dark magic.

The eight unrepresented Fae clan was the royal clan which had been on a constant decline in all these centuries, waning in population until they could no longer be ranked as a royal clan but rely the royal lineage of the Fae.

"And who do you suppose is fit to replace ? You? Just by a re publicly declared challenge?" Lady Diandre countered, her tone haughty.

Lord Fintan chuckled quietly, he crossed his arms behind his back.

"You have repeatedly failed our faith in you and even after serving as our representative for centuries, we have made no progress in breaking the curse placed on the royal house, and no progress is weakening the supremacy of the dragon dynasty."

"All these shortcomings are your responsibility. At this point, no one here can claim to place their trust in you going forward. Without a leader we can trust, how is the Fae to reclaim our rightful place in the stronghold?" Lord Fintan asked, directing his question to the entire council.

There were murmurs of approval and nods of agreent.

"I, Lord Fintan of the Spring Fae Clan therefore deem you unfit as royal representative of the Fae, and entreat the council to appoint a new representative to oversee the affairs of the Fae race." Lord Fintan presented his stance.

Lady Diandre’s eyes glinted with malice, especially at the murmurs of approval Lord Fintan garnered. He knew just what influence he had and Lady Diandre detested to see it wielded against her for this ti, when all along, he had no choice but to bow to her.

There was a deep sense of urgency within Lady Diandre to put the Spring clan lord in his place, but how was she to accomplish that? Compared to Lord Fintan’s, Lady Diandre knew her magical prowess fell short... especially since the supply of magical ability she had used to cover up for her waning magic had been cut off.

"The only one who can lead the Fae is one of the original royal lineages! With what rights do you deem

unfit?! Has there ever been a leader of the Fae race of common blood in our history?!" Lady Diandre snapped.

"Indeed, such a feat has never been achieved by the...’common’ bloods." Lord Fintan agreed, placing emphasis on Lady Diandre’s insulting statent.

Lady Diandre realized too late that she had misspoken, addressing Lord Fintan of noble bloodline as a common blood... Lord Fintan’s bloodline was more noble than any of the other clan representatives present in the gathering adow.

The atmosphere in the gathering adows took a turn for the worse, Lady Diandre’s statent reflected on every clan leader present, given as she was the only royal blooded fairy and the rest were of various noble lineages, or as Lady Diandre had called it...’common bloods.’

Lady Diandre pursed her lips, her glowering glare t Lord Fintan’s own gaze. Subtle as it was, Lady Diandre picked up the trace of amusent in them and she realised Lord Fintan had baited her on purpose... knowing well enough that she regarded herself as being far above the rest of the Fae representatives.

"But this just might be ti for a change. For centuries already, the Fae royal house has been nothing more than a figure head, claiming rights to honours of ancient days and past glory long lost to ti."

"What set the royal lineage of the Fae apart from every other lineage in those tis? Was it not their arcane magic? Unique abilities that kept the Fae on par with the dark empire? The abilities that earned the High Queen the title of ’The Radiant One’?" Lord Fintan posed a question to the council.

Many clan lords echoed their agreent to this.

"When the High Queen passed on, she placed a curse on her own lineage, stripping them of the arcane magic. With only nature magic in the arsenal of the royals, what makes them any different from the rest of us?"

"The Fae clan has fallen to such lows, that at this mont, a re foreigner with just a few magic tricks has been likened to the revered ’Radiant One’ and now the dragon dynasty lays claim to that title...how long must we endure this slight?" Lord Fintan quizzed.
