Chapter 656: Sightings on Keep Grounds (Ch.657)

The ascending room jerked to a sudden and sharp halt. Neveah’s brows narrowed slightly and her eyes ca open as she pushed off the wall she leaned against.

The ascending room had only gone up above the underground level, which ant they currently were on the ground level, the only level common to all Keep dwellers and the entrance level of Dragon Keep.

Halting an ascending room already in motion from the outside was not sothing an attendant or a keep staff would dare do or know how to do, especially not this ascending room that was exclusive to the highest ranked of the Keep.

Kirgan and Everon exchanged a look and then Kirgan’s gaze moved to Neveah, he tilted his head slightly.

Neveah understood the ssage, she moved to the side of the ascending room, pulling her hood up over her head just as the doors ca open.

Kirgan stepped out before the doors could open fully and the doors began going closed again of their own accord.

"Lord Kirgan!" The familiar voice of a dragon lord called.

It was a dragon lord on the rider council, Neveah knew because she had faced the council on enough occasions to recognize a few relevant voices.

"What is it?" Kirgan demanded.

"I regret to inform you, that there have been multiple sightings of dark sorcerers below the mountain! Flight patrol believes they seek a path to infiltrate Keep grounds." The Lord Dragon reported.

"Infiltrate? This Keep?" Kirgan asked with a dark chuckle.

"The rider council has returned to the Keep, security is being tightened as we speak and a full sweep of Keep grounds is underway!" The Lord Dragon reported to Kirgan.

Neveah’s brows twitched slightly, she glanced over at Everon who also looked suspicious.

"Sorcerers?! This close to Dragon Keep?!" Kirgan hissed furiously.

"They can only have co here for sothing, the council believes the hidden archives have been compromised." The Lord Dragon reported in a low whisper.

Kirgan was quiet for a mont, and then a low growl rumbled in the back of his throat.

"I will have Everon update Imagor on the status down here."

"Send out my order, the flight patrol is not to be interfered with, have the city guard form a periter but do not move till I give the order... the King’s guards are still in Dragon Keep, I should like to see who dares approach." Kirgan hissed.

That was the last Neveah and Everon heard, the ascending room had begun moving again, heading up to the second level and Neveah mulled over the unexpected situation.

"The sorcerers are here for Asrig’s writings, are they not?" Neveah asked Everon knowingly.

"There have not been many sightings of dark sorcerers anywhere within Keep skies in decades, for good reasons. The dark sorcerers are not foolish enough to co this close to the seat of power."

"This chest is the only explanation for such a brazen attack. Asrig’s writings do contain... worriso information." Everon said to Neveah in concern.

Neveah spared a glance to the satchel Everon carried, before her eyes went closed again.

The black network had been introduced into the mix, this was not a result she had anticipated, especially not now.

"From Scabbard up till this mont, we have kept word within our ranks. They are dark sorcerers, not spirits. The question is, how did they co to know of my purpose here?" Neveah murmured in a low, yet audible tone.

Everon’s eyes widened slightly at Neveah’s words.

"We have been compromised." Everon realized, his tone tight.

"But who?" Everon asked Neveah in a low tone.

"That will only matter when the night is up. Till then, we must protect Asrig’s writings from falling into the wrong hands...or risk being the very reason a greater evil is unleashed on the stronghold." Neveah said quietly.

Everon nodded once, and the ascending room fell into silence. It was a short ti before they arrived at the second level and the mont the doors were opened,

They ca face to face with a very displeased Dragon Lord, he stood there, arms crossed behind his back, like he had been waiting.

And Neveah would not be surprised that he had noticed sothing was off, anticipated their arrival and waited alone to cut them off.

"Decaron." Everon acknowledged the Lord Dragon.

Decaron’s gaze t Everon’s, his eyes blank.

Decaron was not just any Lord Dragon, his rank was equal to that of Lord Lodenworth of the city guard and the King’s guard were his direct superior in rank.

But Decaron had a far more particular duty, he was head of the royal guard and the dragon blooded counterpart of Lord Rodrick, all internal affairs of the Keep were under his authority and nothing could escape his knowledge within these walls.

"Your eminence." Decaron lowered his head to a bow.

And then his gaze moved to Neveah who still stood in place, her hood obscuring her features.

Decaron’s gaze lingered for a mont before it moved back to Everon.

"Unidentified persons within the halls of Dragon Keep are to stand before the council and state their purpose." Decaron stated.

"This is under my authority, stay out of it." Everon replied directly.

"My apologies, Your Eminence...these are worrying tis. There will be no compromise." Decaron’s response was concise and unfazed.

Neveah was not at all surprised by Decaron’s stern statent and she pushed her hood back to reveal her identity.

"Do I still fall into the category of unidentified persons?" Neveah asked Decaron.

Decaron’s brows twitched slightly, he stared between Neveah and Everon for a mont, and then he made to step aside,

But just then, Decaron’s gaze settled on Everon’s satchel and the look in his eyes changed. His gaze narrowed slightly.

"You may leave if you do not wish to answer to the council for whatever secret dealing this has been, I will neither ask nor insist. But you must first leave that behind, the contents of that cannot and will not leave Dragon Keep." Decaron made his stance clear.
