Chapter 644: A Familiar Place (Ch.645)

The surge of magic washed over Neveah, briefly but it was still enough to leave the usual unsettling feeling that accompanied portal travel, especially for a distance so great.

From the Scabbard Tower to Keep Skies, it was the kind of distance that would take at least a few jump portals in succession to arrive at the destination,

However for a single portal to carry through such a great distance, it ant the magic effect of it was much heavier than the usual... the portal artifacts of the academy of magic were the most stable for such great distances.

Though they were rare, it was not difficult to acquire for Dragon Lords.

The portal had transported them to a small, sparse forest at the top of a hill, and though it was still a great distance away from their intended destination, Neveah could already pick up on the sounds of life and bustling activities, the familiar slls and just a glimpse of a familiar sight far out in the distance.

"Keep district..." Neveah murmured to herself, a lancholic look in her eyes.

Neveah could hear the sound of the portal shutting off behind her right after Everon’s annoyed grunt but Neveah did not pay much attention to it.

Instead, she slowly walked over to narx who already stood, staring back at her with a small smile and a knowing look in his eyes.

Adrienne was by his side too, as much as Neveah did not favor the Fae, she and narx now ca in a package and one could not be seen at any point without the other.

Neveah had not bothered to question if Adrienne was in the know of why exactly they had returned to Keep Skies so suddenly, it was left to narx’s discretion to decide how much he was willing to confide in his rider.

Neveah returned narx’s smile, coming to stand beside him,

narx had gone through the portal first to scout the periter, Adrienne had gone in after, Neveah had only gone through it a short ti afterwards, as it had been agreed upon.

Tara had co next and Everon had been the last through the portal. Even at this mont,

He still grumbled his displeasure at being jostled by the portal, he busily dusted his sleeves that had been scrunched up, intently smoothing out every crease in sight.

For a Dragon Lord who was a worthy fighter in his own right and with one of the most noble dispositions Neveah knew till this day, Neveah was not certain she would ever understand why Everon could still retain such delicacy in certain situations.

"We are quite far away from Dragon Keep." Neveah pointed out after a brief mont of silence.

"It was Kirgan’s arrangent, he should be here at any..." narx began to say but trailed off as a large shadow blocked out the sun far overhead.

Neveah glanced up, squinting slightly as the wind was kicked up, dirt and debris rising up from the surface of the Earth.

The large beast soon flew by, it circled around the periter once and then it was out of sight, seeming to have disappeared completely.

"Is he really pulling a stunt right now?" narx murmured,

Though it was clear narx did not put that past this brother of his.

However in the next mont, a familiar voice called to them from above.

"Oi!" Kirgan’s familiar light baritone called down to them.

Neveah glanced up, scoffing incredulously to find Kirgan perched on a tree branch, squatting down.

His dark green robes blended perfectly with the leaves on the branches that if he did not make his presence known, he could easily conceal himself in the trees without being discovered.

Kirgan lifted a hand in a small wave, his gaze trailed from one person to another before they settled on Neveah and narx.

Kirgan’s gaze then moved to Adrienne and then back to Neveah and narx.

"Why, if it isn’t the runaway ruby couple and the ill-fated lovers. What unfortunate wind blew you all together again?" Kirgan said, tilting his head to the side.

"Kirgan..." narx growled in a low, warning tone.

Kirgan raised a single brow at narx’s words before he chuckled to himself, lifting a hand to show he ant no harm.

Neveah was quiet for a mont before she also chuckled quietly. It had been quite a long ti and so she had almost forgotten Kirgan’s nature and his likelihood to make fun of everything.

"Lord Kirgan, you look well." Neveah said, a ghost of a smile lingering on her lips.

"Tis’ Kirgan, to you My Lady...or the stunning erald, whichever you find more endearing." Kirgan replied, a smirk on his lips.

"Are you going to keep speaking to us from that height?" narx demanded of his brother crossly.

Kirgan rolled his eyes, leaping off the tree, he landed perfectly on his feet and he strode over to them, crossing his arms behind his back.

"You can just say you have missed , Narx." Kirgan said to narx with a grin, extending an arm to him.

narx’s brows furrowed into a frown but he accepted Kirgan’s offered arm and they clasped their arms briefly, a short mont but it did speak volus to all who knew the kind of bond shared between the King’s guard.

No words were exchanged between them, but Kirgan’s attention moved to Neveah.

"Veah...it has been a minute." Kirgan comnted, his gaze studying Neveah for a mont.

"It has, indeed." Neveah agreed.

"You are well?" Kirgan asked.

"In all aspects." Neveah reassured.

"It is a relief. We cannot have it be otherwise... enough has been put out of order already."

"When Narx sent word of the situation at Scabbard and your impending visit, Imagor and I feared the worst."

"We three left would be unable to face our brothers and our liege, should anything untoward befall you, Neveah." Kirgan said in a aningful tone.

"Now, I wished this were a courtesy visit, but sadly it is not and in not a long ti, the next flight patrol will go by these parts... security in Keep Skies is air tight, we have had to make adjustnts to suit the tis."

"There are no blind spots in Keep Skies at this ti, I especially choose this location as it is under my watch today."

"I have prepared a carriage at the bottom of the hill, to keep Neveah out of sight and the knowledge of the council as narx requested. We can talk more on the purpose of your visit when we et Imagor." Kirgan said, gesturing to a thin path through the forest.
