Chapter 629: Source 3 (Ch.630)

"But the water always looked just fine, we inspected it first in the bid to find the source of the plague...a contaminated water source is usually the most common way diseases spread and so it is always monitored closely."

"However the contagion seed to be more of a communicable nature, passing from one human to another." Atticus said in confusion.

"And what is the proof of that? That the contagion has spread this quickly by being passed on from person to person? If so, with the quarantine so heavily enforced, how exactly is the contagion still spreading so rapidly?" Neveah asked blankly.

Atticus opened his mouth to speak but realized he truly could not confirm it with absolute certainty.

"Dark magic cannot be so easily traced by ordinary thods, Atticus. You cannot find it when what you are looking for are disease causing agents...rather than traces of a spell." Neveah murmured.

"Elle, water..." Neveah instructed.

Estelle fetched a glass of water quickly and passed it to Neveah, once again, Neveah caught a glimpse of the strange material before it disappeared from sight.

"There is sothing in the water, that much I say with absolute certainty. You cannot see it...but I can." Neveah stated in a aningful tone.

Those who already knew of Devirld understood Neveah’s aning without any further words.

"We will have to confirm it first before we decide on the next step. Do you have any thods?" Neveah asked Everon.

Everon was quiet for a mont before he nodded his head.

"Fae blood." Everon stated.

"Fae blood contains magic... Fae magic is light and nature magic, if it cos in contact with dark magic, there is bound to be a clash." Dante said, nodding in agreent.

"I will require blood from a pure blooded Fae." Everon said.

"Adrienne..." Tara murmured beneath her breath.

They all knew Lady Adrienne was of the purest blood amongst all the Fae lineages, her blood would contain the most potent magic and either confirm or disprove Neveah’s suspicion without a doubt.

"Where is Lady Adrienne at this mont?" Neveah asked Dante.

"Lord narx and his rider are currently attending a eting of the Scabbard dragons, presided by my father. I excused myself from said eting to prepare for the autopsy." Dante reported.

"Then we go to them. Dante, have soone clear out the corpses...give them a proper burial." Neveah instructed.

Dante nodded and headed out where he could be heard given orders to so Scabbard dragons.

Neveah led the way out of the side hall, making her way to the drawing room and after Dante had sorted out the side hall, he accompanied them to the drawing room.

Dante pushed open the doors and then stepped aside to let Neveah in. The hall went silent at Neveah’s entrance and narx rose to his feet, striding over to Neveah.

His gaze quickly examined her from head to toe.

"I heard you had awakened, I was going to co see you in a short ti." narx said to Neveah.

"I am well." Neveah assured, knowing what his concern was.

Neveah passed Lord Mycroft a brief glance, before her attention returned to narx.

"There is sothing you must know, but not at this mont." Neveah told narx.

narx nodded slowly in understanding, stepping aside to let Neveah walk up to the center of the hall.

"Dante tells

you might have discovered a lead to the origin of the contagion?" Lord Mycroft asked Neveah.

"We will only know if it is a lead or not after confirming it. For the confirmation, we will require a drop of Fae blood...if you do not mind, Lady Adrienne." Neveah said.

Adrienne who still sat so distance away was surprised to see Neveah was referring to her.

"Of course..." Adrienne said,

"Tara, draw so blood." Everon instructed Tara, passing Tara a vial.

Adrienne unlatched her wrist guard and stretched a hand out to Tara and Tara pulled out a small dagger, making a small cut on Adrienne’s wrist.

She then turned Adrienne’s hand over and let the blood flow into a small glass vial she had received from Everon.

"That is enough." Everon said to Tara.

Tara nodded and handed the vial over to Estelle who took it to Everon, Tara was about to step away but Neveah fixed Tara with a pointed look.

"I will...clean up the cut." Tara murmured beneath her breath, taking Adrienne with her to another end of the hall.

There were over a dozen Scabbard dragons present and they watched in silent curiosity.

Before all eyes, Everon lifted the vial containing Adrienne’s blood to his sight and then he slowly added so droplets of water to it.

Neveah watched patiently. The very mont the water t the blood within the vial, a sizzling sound was heard from the vial and the contents turned to a pitch black.

A crack spread down the sides of the vial and it shattered in Everon’s grasp, the blackened liquid splashing over the floor.

"What in the stronghold...?" Lord Mycroft was the first to break the silence, jerking back in his seat.

"Residues of dark magic in the water reacting to Fae magic in Adrienne’s blood, that is what." Everon replied in a grim tone.

"Does this an...it has been the water source all along? Poisoning all the people of Scabbard?!" Lord Mycroft exclaid in rage.

"More than that, a contamination of this magnitude can only happen with extrely powerful and ancient dark magic...not the kind the black network is capable of." Everon added.

"The kind that was characteristic of the dark Lord and his high sorcerers." narx said in agreent.

"Tedmon, seal off all water supply in the city! Imdiately!" Lord Mycroft instructed the one of his scabbard dragons.

"At once." The Lord Dragon accepted the order and strode out of the hall.

"Sealing off the water source will not solve the trouble, we must trace the spell back to the point it was originally cast and undo the spell." narx said.
