Chapter 614: A Need For Calm (Ch.615)
Neveah could feel it within her, that darker presence creeping up as swiftly as the rage did, elated at the opportunity to rise to the surface and attempt another overthrow, but there was hardly anything Neveah could do to prevent it,
More than that, preventing it was the last thing on Neveah’s mind. Devirld’s presence amplified Neveah’s feelings of disappointnt in Everon and displeasure at Lord Mycroft and her rage surged even more.
Yet, Neveah sat in place, her fists clenched in her laps and her gaze fixed directly ahead as she fought a losing battle to maintain her cool.
"Your eyes, Veah... they’re golden...you have to calm yourself..." Tara said warily from where she was seated.
Neveah’s gaze did not stray, and she did not react, like she had not even heard Tara speak.
"Tell
why you have kept this from , Everon." Neveah asked, her tone eerily calm.
"Neveah, I will not hide anything from you, but I will not speak if you do not calm down and speak to
calmly." Everon said clearly.
Everon knew Devirld’s influence was seeping into Neveah’s words, making them colder and all the more harsh than she would ever address Everon with.
"Are you truly bargaining with
right now?!" Neveah hissed, catching herself before she could say more.
"Tell
why you have collected blood samples from the Creator knows how many light bloods and kept it from !" Neveah snarled in a dangerous low tone.
"Naturally because you would react in this manner and I cannot afford to unsettle you. How could I tell you? How could anyone tell you?" Everon replied to Neveah’s question.
"That saving
from Devirld requires soone else taking my place?! I am certain you could have found an appropriate mont for information of such consequences!" Neveah hissed.
"Do you really think I would want Elle or anyone else to go through this?! This... madness?! Look at
Everon! Look at my eyes! Look at
and tell
I would dare wish this on my worst enemy! But Elle?! Elle?!" Neveah hissed.
"Veah, calm down and hear
out..." Everon began to say
"Do.not.tell..to.calm.down!" Neveah growled, her canines elongated fully and her claws were on full display, fur lined the sides of her neck as a partial shift was slowly forced.
A pained gasp escaped Neveah, Neveah doubled over where she sat, coughing violently.
"Veah!" Estelle exclaid in horror.
"By the Creator! Give her the pill, Everon!" Tara exclaid anxiously.
"Veah!" Everon hissed, walking over to Neveah, however he only got so close when he was blasted backwards by a wave of glowing golden magical energy.
Everon was flung across the room, crashing into a pillar far away.
Dante made to rush to Neveah’s aid but Neveah would not have it.
"Stay away! All of you!" Neveah hissed between gasps for breath, falling off her chair, she crashed to the ground, one hand supporting her weight while the other clung to her chest where she desperately struggled for breath.
"Do not co closer...he will hurt you. Devirld is here... give
ti...to stop him..." Neveah gasped out.
Everon’s pained gaze watched Neveah struggle by herself, trembling violently. All around her was that golden glow, making it clear no one could get too close,
She would have to suppress Devirld on her own without external help.
"Are you happy now, Mycroft?! Is this what you wanted to see?! The great secret we have been keeping from you?!" Everon roared furiously as he got up to his feet.
"I..." Lord Mycroft was at a loss on what to say, his eyes wide.
"You think we care too much for Veah to tell her the truth?! She goes through this every few days only because she held that damned barrier up against the death gale! Kept the Dunes safe when the void collapsed! Saved Coran, Garron and I from the dark miasma!"
"Saved thousands of lives if we are being honest! And yet she needs to stand on a mountain top and cry out that she is the Dragon Queen to earn your respect?!" Everon roared.
"You think she deserves to be cursed with Devirld for the rest of her days just to fulfill your needs?! You think you are in any position to demand responsibility?! Can you bear the consequences of Our Liege losing his rider after so many centuries of searching?!" Everon was completely furious, his scales lining the side of his face.
"And one would think, why must she fight so hard to suppress it?! Even now, she still knows to keep it suppressed at her own expense!"
"Because if she ever loses control, her insanity would be the least of our worries compared to the lives at risk to Devirld’s power! Do you not see that even I am barely a challenge to it?! Do you truly wish to unleash such an evil on the world?! How is this a better option than a plague?!" Everon snarled.
"Neveah!" A voice interrupted the scene as the doors to the drawing room burst open.
All eyes moved to the door as narx dashed in. His right fist was alight with his flas and he slamd it right into the golden barrier around Neveah.
Neveah scread out in pain, the impact of narx’s attack was still felt by her as Devirld was within her.
However, it was effective, the barrier crashed and narx dropped to his knees by Neveah’s side, grabbing her shoulders and turning her over so she leaned against him.
It was then all eyes took in the golden tears dripping from her cheeks, disappearing into nothingness the mont they hit the ground.
"Oh Veah..." narx said in a pained tone.
"Narx..." Neveah whispered lowly.
"Hush now. The pill... Everon!" narx demanded.
Everon hurried over, also kneeling by Neveah’s side, he nudged her head up and fed her the pill.
It took a swift effect, specially brewed to suit Neveah’s condition and the visible tremors stopped.
All that was left was a barely moving Neveah, her dazed golden eyes and the tears streaking down her cheeks.
narx lifted Neveah up into his arms. Flashing a glare to Lord Mycroft.
"I do not know what happened here, but trust that you will have much to explain, Lord of Scabbard!" narx made clear.
As narx strode over to the door, his eyes settled on Adrienne who stood outside, waiting.
Adrienne’s gaze moved down to Neveah and then to narx and one could not miss the pained look that flashed through them.
"Go... I will wait for you." Adrienne assured with a nod.
