Chapter 598: Nothing Unusual (Ch.599)
"Are you alright?" Neveah asked with a small frown.
The petite woman looked up to Neveah and Neveah’s eyes widened in alarm when she saw a thick misty darkness seeping into the whites of her eyes.
The dark mass swirled, as though it would spill right out of her eyes and Neveah could only stare in horror.
Neveah’s gaze trailed down and from the woman’s eyes down to the sides of her face, the veins were prominent and blackened in colour.
A faint stench hung in the air all along and Neveah finally identified the source.
’Dark magic...’ Neveah thought to herself in concern and displeasure.
That shift in Neveah’s emotions was more than enough crack for Devirld to rise to the surface once again.
’Let
out and I will eradicate it from its roots... every last strand of dark magic, gone...’ Devirld vowed enticingly in Neveah’s mind, like he would give her the world if only she just held his hand.
And he would, Neveah knew. He would give it to himself as taking Devirld’s hands ant she ceased to exist as she was now, but would beco a version of herself she did not know.
Neveah glanced down at her hand that still held onto the petite woman, there was a dim golden shine radiating from it, barely visible to anyone else but Neveah herself.
Neveah watched as the blackened veins were banished, from the point of contact all the way up to the woman’s eyes, till the misty darkness completely disappeared.
In that mont, Neveah felt lightheaded and she quickly shook her head to clear her vision, her montarily blurred vision returned to normal.
’Just like that... I will do it all for you, and so much more. Will you not accept
completely? I myself have accepted our fate together...we are ant to be, Oga.’ Devirld whispered in his haunting tone.
’Just be quiet!’ Neveah snarled harshly to Devirld. A reprimand that did not quite sit well with him.
"Veah? Veah?" Coran’s voice drew Neveah back to reality.
It was then Neveah realized everyone was staring at her, not just the couple, the commander of the city guard and Coran but even the crowd at the gates.
"Your eyes..." The petite woman Neveah still held onto stuttered out in horror.
Neveah thought it would have been fair if she could have reacted the sa to what she had just seen in the woman’s own eyes.
Neveah quickly let go of the petite woman, taking a step back, she turned her face away, her eyes going closed to conceal Devirld’s influence.
Devirld churned within Neveah’s mind and Neveah knew she could not suppress him out here, with so many eyes on her.
"The Dunes are dangerous at this ti, it is no place for one with an ailnt and all our physicians are otherwise occupied. Deliver what ssage you have for
to the commander and return to where you co from." Neveah said firmly.
Without looking back, Neveah turned and headed back into the city, with Coran following closely behind.
The ride back to the castle was swift and the mont they arrived, Coran hurried over to Neveah’s side just as she dismounted her horse, staggering slightly on unsteady footing.
"Stand down." Coran instructed the castle guards who rushed to Neveah’s aid.
Neveah barely took notice, she was only relieved she held out till castle grounds. Her condition was not unknown to the occupants of Dune Castle.
There was a piercing ringing in Neveah’s head and Neveah swore she could feel blood dripping out of her ears, Devirld was right on the surface and as always, he would not be suppressed without a fight.
This ti though, it was different. Neveah was not certain why this was one of the more severe episodes, she had barely done anything emotional, yet it was.
"Everon... take
to Everon." Neveah instructed Coran.
Coran complied imdiately, supporting Neveah’s weight, they swiftly made their way to Everon’s study where Everon and a brighter looking Isalder were in quiet conversation.
However both were alard at the sight of Neveah and Neveah’s gaze moved to Isalder and then down to Isalder’s baby cradled in her arms.
"Isa, take the young one away... I will be fine." Neveah said to Isalder.
Isalder was clearly reluctant but looking down at her baby, she nodded and took her leave.
Coran helped Neveah into a seat and Neveah breathed a sigh, her teeth clenched tightly.
"What triggered him this ti?" Everon asked Coran as he busily went around, fetching things he would use to tend to Neveah.
"I cannot tell. One mont she was fine and the next..." Coran trailed off.
"Did you use Devirld’s magic, Veah?" Everon asked, crouching down before Neveah.
Neveah winced visibly but she nodded her head once.
"Against your will?" Everon asked again to which Neveah nodded once more.
"Scales!" Everon grunted as he got up to his feet, he fetched a glass of water and handed Neveah a pill.
Neveah took the pill and swallowed it along with a mouthful of water. And then she leaned back against the chair, breathing heavily.
It took a short mont but Devirld soon retreated to the back of her mind and Neveah was herself again.
"Coran...did you sense anything strange with that woman?" Neveah asked in a tired tone.
Coran thought over it for a mont but shook his head slightly.
"She seed quite ill, but suddenly looked better before we left... I am not certain if she was truly ill or it was only a ruse. But other than that, there was nothing unusual." Coran relayed to Neveah.
"Nothing unusual...you did not sense dark magic?" Neveah asked Coran again to be sure.
Coran shook his head, his brows furrowed in concern.
"Shall I bring them in for questioning?" Coran asked Neveah.
"No, no...let it be. Perhaps I am overly sensitive, with Devirld, I cannot trust my own senses anymore." Neveah murmured.
