Chapter 585: Broken Within (Ch.586)
’There now, how pleasant is it? When you do not resist ?’ Devirld comnded delightfully.
With that one act of Neveah’s, Devirld’s influence in her mind surged to a new height.
It was like Neveah had just opened up a dam and the overflow was beyond anything Neveah could have imagined.
Jian had been right, Neveah realized. There was nothing Devirld did better than biding his ti, waiting for the slightest crack in one’s defence and Neveah had given him that.
Neveah gasped in pain, it felt like her blood vessels were about to implode from all the magic surging through it.
’How was he so strong now?! Just how?’ Neveah thought in horror.
It had not been so long since Devirld was last unleashed, but Neveah could tell in the ti she had suppressed him, Devirld had only grown twice as strong as he had been the last ti.
Neveah felt her muscles grow taut, an overwhelming pressure forcing her to move her feet,
Neveah panicked, the dune dragons had already been carried to safety, what more did Devirld want to do?
Neveah did not give in, she resisted Devirld’s influence violently and she crashed back down to her knees.
Neveah panted loudly as she struggled to suppress Devirld.
"That is enough...you are done here." Neveah thought to Devirld in a cold hiss.
"You do not get to tell
when to co and go, Oga..." Devirld clarified, his tone even more terrifying now.
"That is where you are terribly wrong. I will be damned if I let you control ..." Neveah hissed.
"Veah! Scales!" Everon’s voice exclaid from sowhere around but Neveah could barely pin point his location, nor pay attention to him.
"You and I...we are already one. What is yours, is mine..." Devirld reminded Neveah of his horrifying intent.
A hand rested on Neveah’s shoulder and Neveah hissed, her gaze snapped upwards to et Everon’s.
"Veah...you have to suppress Devirld! The barrier is reacting to his magic!" Everon said to Neveah urgently.
Neveah hissed again, her head twitched slightly and her eyes changed colors at a rapid interval. A glowing gold and then back to normal but in the next mont, the gold returned.
"Veah, your will far surpass his. Do not give in, you can’t lose yourself to him!" Everon pleaded in dismay.
Neveah could hear Everon’s words clearly but it was easier said than done. Neveah’s fingers dug into the earth, containing Devirld with gritted teeth.
"Veah... give
control." Neveah’s wolf finally resurfaced after Devirld had forced her shift.
Neveah did not hesitate to relinquish the control she had desperately held onto to her wolf,
Devirld always manifested while Neveah was in human form, because he knew Neveah’s wolf was more difficult to overwhelm.
As control switched hands, Devirld’s hiss of distaste echoed through Neveah’s mind.
"Not you again!" Devirld hissed in rage, referring to Neveah’s wolf.
A dominant growl was the only response given by Neveah’s wolf, one so loud it echoed through Neveah’s mind and left her ears ringing.
Neveah’s hand moved up to clutch her head as black spots danced across her vision.
Neveah did not fight it, her wolf would suppress Devirld at any cost... Neveah may have been an easier prey to Devirld, but an Alpha King wolf was different.
As Neveah lost consciousness, Jian’s words echoed through her mind.
’Devirld is very unstable... dangerous. Other than my father, no one has wielded it. It would take years to have a semblance of control of it...’
’But you have a very strong hold on Devirld, you can channel its strength with more control than I had imagined possible.’
’Is this a good thing? Or a bad thing?’ Neveah had asked warily.
’Veah... I do not know, but I will not experint with it. I cannot take any risks with you... I cannot trust Devirld not to harm you for its own selfish interest.’
’Its power will grow increasingly tasking on your body and you are only part dragon...it will have more control as ti passes and magic tears are just the beginning.’
’You must never let Devirld out again, the more you wield his power, the tighter he binds to you...’
~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Dune Lord! Dune Lord!"
Neveah was drawn out of the mory by Garron calling for her attention.
Neveah glanced up, all eyes seated around the table were fixed on her. Even Coran had stopped his narration and stared at her with wide eyes.
The eting had co to an abrupt stop.
Neveah did not need to ask to know why they were staring, she could feel Devirld’s presence at the surface of her mind, sneaking up on her as he often did since Neveah had lost control of him on that day.
Neveah had made a grave mistake on that day, she had failed her promise to Jian and Xenon and she since had been faced with the consequences.
"Your eyes..." Coran trailed off, informing Neveah of what she already knew.
Neveah sucked in a sharp breath, gripping the edge of her seat tightly, so tightly that her knuckles turned white.
"Shall we call for Everon?" Garron asked anxiously, rising to his feet.
This was not the first ti the dune dragons would witness Neveah’s struggle for control of her own body against the power within that was intent on overwhelming her.
In this past month, all Neveah had been lectured on constantly was to maintain a calm state, to never let her mind be disturbed...all for the fear of Devirld breaking through again.
The world was broken on the outside and within Neveah also, it was a daily struggle to hold herself together.
"Sit Garron. I am fine..." Neveah said to Garron through gritted teeth.
"But..." Garron began to argue.
A low hiss from Neveah silenced him mid statent.
Neveah’s eyes went closed, there were tis she could no longer tell if her reactions were just hers alone, influenced...or were not even hers at all.
"Carry on." Neveah instructed Coran.
