Chapter 462: Dungeons (Ch.463)

"Yes... I will admit that my clan have their own arrangents...but I was never a part of it... though I am certain nothing I can say would change your opinion of ."

"You have every reason to doubt my intentions...but the one thing I hope you can believe is that I would never do anything to harm narx...never." Adrienne finally said in a tone barely above a whisper.

"It is not I who needs to be convinced of your sincerity. In a few days, I will leave... and it will be up to you how you choose to face your troubles."

"I do not need your secrets. Do what you will with them. I will go to narx only because I wish for him to be safe and well, and not because of you." Neveah made clear as she got off her bed.

Neveah walked over to her closet, fetching a change of clothing.

"You knew already...where he is..." Adrienne murmured in realization.

Neveah passed a glance over her shoulder to Adrienne, catching the pained look in her eyes before she could hide it away.

Neveah was not certain if Adrienne still expected her to be considerate of her feelings.

"I have been with him for how long now? Would I still not know his heart?" Neveah replied blankly.

"I... I will have a horse... prepared." Adrienne murmured as she turned to take her leave.

"There will be no need for a horse, narx is here in Dragon Keep." Neveah replied with certainty.

"But ... Keila searched everywhere already... you cannot sense him...how can you be sure?" Adrienne asked slowly.

"I am here...he would never leave." Neveah said as she walked into the washroom and shut the door.

Neveah leaned her back against the door, breathing a heavy sigh as she heard Adrienne’s retreating footsteps and the difficulty in her every step.

"You do know she does not deserve our sympathy..." Neveah’s wolf thought to her.

Again, Neveah’s wolf had been quiet for a long while now and Neveah guessed it spoke to how deeply affected she was by the severed bond.

"How could I not know it...but knowing it is one thing. This was never about her..." Neveah reminded her wolf.

"Right. It is about him who does not have the heart to watch his true bonded die and as such failed us. It should be no concern of ours, if he is fine or not." Neveah’s wolf pointed out.

Neveah sighed quietly, she could sense her wolf’s displeasure... while she could understand narx’s situation, she could also understand that her wolf was not one to tolerate weakness...or forgive what she considered a betrayal.

narx’s will had not been strong enough to rely on and for that, Neveah knew her wolf would never find narx worthy again.

"L...lady Neveah." The dragon guards guarding the dungeons greeted , exchanging uncertain looks at Neveah’s arrival.

The dungeons of Dragon Keep, it was situated in a hidden basent floor and Neveah only knew the entrance to it because at so point, she had spent a short ti in said dungeons as the accused.

Neveah made to walk into the entrance but her path was blocked by one of the dragon guards.

Neveah passed a dark look to him, a single brow raised in question.

"Lady Neveah, I’m afraid access to the dungeons is strictly regulated...it is not a place for a Lady to be..." One of the dragon guards began to dissuade but Neveah cut him off.

"He is in there, is he not?" Neveah’s words were more of a statent than a question.

She knew without a doubt that the only place narx could be in Dragon Keep where he could not be found was here... the dungeons.

"My Lady...by Our Liege’s orders, he is not allowed to see you." The dragon guard reminded.

"I am the one here to see him, did King Jian also instruct that I am not allowed?" Neveah contended with a blank tone.

The dragon guard lowered his head slightly.

"Right, I thought so." Neveah finished, gesturing for the dragon guard to open the doors.

The dragon guards exchanged another look before they nodded and let Neveah through.

Neveah descended the winding stairwell that led down to the basent floor and as the doors above her were shut, the path ahead was cast into pitch darkness but Neveah was not fazed.

The mont she stepped in, her senses were clouded with the horrid stench and various unsettling sounds, growls, shrieks... and whatever else.

Neveah could hear them resounding all around her and she was grateful for the fact that the dungeons themselves were well sealed off and a good distance away from the path.

Neveah walked swiftly down the path, she had once heard that narx’s district was in the deepest part of the dungeons and that was precisely where she headed.

It took a short while and a few turns for Neveah to finally arrive at a large tal door.

There was no indication as to where it lead to, but the aura emitted from that part of the basent alone was enough to let Neveah know she had found narx’s district.

Neveah slowly pushed open the door and stepped in, pushing it closed behind her.

The first thing that hit Neveah in the face was the strong, tallic sll of blood, overshadowing every other.

Neveah’s nose twitched slightly, her sensitive senses taking a mont to adjust to the intensity of the stench.

There were rows and rows of sealed cells on either side of the path and Neveah could sense the presence of life within them but unlike the rest of the dungeon, this part was eerily quiet.

Neveah realized she had spoken too soon when an ear piercing scream shook the very walls.

Neveah picked up a few sounds this ti, whimpers of fear and shaky breathing from the closed cells.

Fear and terror so potent, Neveah could sll it and even practically taste it.

narx’s district was known to hold the deadliest criminals, at least those still undergoing interrogation.

As for those who had passed through their ti in the district, there was none who lived to tell of the district.

To sense such terror from hardened criminals, Neveah was not certain how terrifying this district must have been... and the man who controlled it.

And at the mont, the said man was in a very wrong state of mind and everyone in the dungeon could feel it as surely as they could hear the tortured screams from deep in the district.

Neveah sighed heavily as she moved further into the district, following the trail of that scream.
