Chapter 446: A Language Not Understood (Ch.447)

Adrienne... with a terrifyingly pale appearance, sunken eyes and hollow cheeks that looked deep enough to hold water, the fairy princess best known for her enchanting beauty was hardly recognizable, she looked far worse than Neveah had expected.

At the grand hall, Neveah had noticed Adrienne’s appearance was already different but she had not seen it so clearly as she did now in broad daylight, without the rush of events and a crowd of people to distract her attention.

Adrienne had always possessed a thin fra, but her appearance would always be bright and radiant, exuding a lively and noble aura. She had been the kind of woman one did not have to ask to know about.

From a great distance afar, it would be easy for even the most ignorant to tell she was a woman of high status and a noble upbringing.

Her appearance, character, bearing and even the way she carried herself, none of these attributes were common, not even in Dragon Keep which housed hundreds of nobles of various highly respected ranks.

Adrienne had always been different, her presence would make everyone else look subpar, like she had originated from a different plane of existence entirely.

The grace she possessed could not be compared with anyone else Neveah had t and Neveah had t her fair share of exalted ladies from the Eclipse Domain down to Dragon Keep.

Neveah was willing to admit Adrienne was a force to be reckoned with, one of those who could be said to have been born excellent... perfect, without a tinge of flaw or more accurately, with the ability to conceal any flaws.

In just a few months since she had been banished from the Keep, Adrienne had beco a completely different person.

It was even more obvious now that she was dressed in plain clothes and not Rosalie’s luxurious and over the top dress.

It was not only her appearance that had changed, the change was deep rooted. Neveah could see it in her aura, in her countenance.

Her poise and carriage had all been forgotten, the one who always walked with her head held high had her shoulders slouched like she carried upon them the weight of the entire stronghold and then so.

Adrienne’s shimring spectral wings were now dry and lifeless. Resting against her back like a lump that was just out of place.

But what Neveah found to be the greatest change was the look in Adrienne’s eyes.

Those caral brown orbs that were always so haughty and full of self importance now looked broken, empty...dead.

Adrienne stared over at Neveah, for how long she had been, Neveah had no clue but Neveah stared back and all she could see was a soulless shell, one who had already given up on life.

She was so feeble, Keila supported her entire weight and a glance told Neveah there was no more strength in Adrienne’s muscles.

Sufficient experience with poisons made it apparent to Neveah that this poison in Adrienne’s system was an extrely malicious kind, attacking every organ simultaneously and moving swiftly with the aid of blood circulation,

At this rate, it would reach Adrienne’s heart at any mont now...to be more exact, it should already have. Being alive till this point was already considered luck.

The ti she had left was anything between a few days and the next few hours, it all depended on her own fate.

’Veah...Veah... co to your senses!’ Neveah’s wolf cautioned when Neveah just kept staring.

Neveah blinked quickly, shaking her head in an attempt to pull her mind back to reality.

There was a sudden cold chill that spread through Neveah and Neveah knew it could not be the weather, not with the morning sun high up in the sky, encasing all beneath in it’s warming rays.

That chill was sothing else entirely, a mix of unexplainable feelings, all of which Neveah had no reasons to feel in the first place other than for the fact that she too was also mortal...

And the one weakness mortals shared in common was a heart that knew empathy.

Neveah had not thought there would co a day when she would feel such a trivial emotion for soone completely unworthy, but seeing Adrienne for herself, Neveah understood why exactly Keila had asked nothing else but for Neveah to pay a visit.

Because Keila knew there was nothing greater she could say that would compare to a sight of Adrienne’s condition.

’Veah...now is not the ti to harbor such thoughts. Cast them away.’ Neveah’s wolf lectured her firmly.

Neveah complied, again shaking her head slightly to pull herself back to reality and it was only when her focus was restored that she realized two facts.

The first was the fact that Adrienne was now headed back into the Keep, this ti, she was not supported by Keila but moving by herself at a slow and obviously struggling pace.

Keila stared on in dismay, Neveah guessed in disagreent with Adrienne’s choice.

Neveah was not certain what she had expected from Adrienne, but Neveah surely had not expected a peaceful retreat.

Had the poison taken away all Adrienne’s greed and thirst for power? narx was right here, her final shot at the life she wanted and at life itself, if one was being honest.

narx’s reversed scale could banish the poison, this was true. This was a chance that even fate had justified for her, granting her the miracle of a true bond.

It was Adrienne’s life, as well as all her hopes and dreams in one package...a perfect package called the Lord of Ruby Scales.

narx had refused to see Adrienne all this while, she finally had a chance to see him and make her case, appeal to the bond, force his hand...do sothing, whatever it was.

And what did she do? Leave.

And then there was the second fact... the fact that Neveah only now realized that the man beside her had said nothing, done nothing,

narx gave absolutely no reaction whatsoever. As though he had not even seen Adrienne, his attention was focused on the blue print spread out before him.

But how could it be that he had not seen, when they both had been staring in the sa direction a mont ago when Adrienne had stepped out?

Had Neveah not been observant enough, perhaps she would have missed narx’s snow white knuckles from his tightly clenched fists and the small droplet of blood that stained the blueprint from where narx’s nails must have pierced into his skin.

It seed on the surface like there had been no exchange, but Neveah knew better than anyone just how capable the bond was...there was no ssage it could not pass so long as it had been awakened.

And so, Neveah knew there indeed had been an exchange. One both parties were helpless to, in a language even they would not understand, and neither of them could be unaffected by.

’The bond... their... bond...’ Neveah thought to herself, her heart sinking to the very depths of her stomach.
