Chapter 413: A Suspicious Group 2 (Ch.413)

"There be no ti, hasten." One of the outpost guards said to the other group who had been waiting around by the fire.

It was a small group, only four dwarves in total and the three who had just joined in were outpost guards.

"Yer knows the tool takes ti." A citadel guard replied as he pulled out a strange chanism from a large box he carried.

This ti, Neveah clearly sensed the magical energy exuded from it and she could tell this was no ordinary item.

"The boy be co of age in few months... take the magic and we return to his ho. No one notice..." The outpost dwarf insisted.

The dwarves continued exchanging words as the citadel dwarf set up the chanism, the thick accent of the dwarves made their words unclear but after a mont, Neveah could understand the gist of what they were saying.

’All along, the way the dwarves got the magic they used in their tunnels and concealing spells was absorbing the magic of others... children, whose magic was yet to show.’ Neveah realized.

She had always wondered why the dwarves had snatched away a random child like Roman and was so swiftly transporting him away, but Neveah could now understand their purpose.

What was worse, the dwarves would return the child to their family after the magic was absorbed and when the child did co of age, his magic would not manifest and no one would ever realize it had already been snatched, they would just assu the child was not gifted.

This news would never reach the dragons since the children would be returned in one piece before their abduction could be made into a big deal, the parents would let it go believing nothing had gone wrong.

Neveah could not begin to imagine how many children of magical birth had lost their magic just like this, lost their birthright and part of themselves without ever getting to know why.

’The dwarves have committed a far greater cri against the stronghold than just mining adamantium.’ Neveah’s wolf thought to her in displeasure.

The dwarves fell silent when the chanism was completely set up. It was like a black tallic box from which a strange chain was connected and ended in a small cuff made of the sa material.

Right before Neveah’s eyes, the dwarves fitted the cuff around the head of the sleeping boy.

’No one will get here in ti.’ Neveah thought to her wolf.

’We can take on seven.’ Neveah’s wolf gave her consent.

That was all Neveah needed as she lunged in a flash, taking hold of the first dwarf, the one who seed to be operating the chanism.

Neveah’s claws pierced right into his throat even before the other dwarves could noticed her and with a sharp twist, the satisfying crunch echoed across the clearing, drawing the attention of the rest of the dwarves.

"Stop! Or I kill!" The dwarf holding the cuff hissed as Neveah reached for the box and Neveah froze in place, staring warily at the glinting sharp blade that now rested against the throat of the sleeping child.

"Let the child go, then I will leave quietly and no one has to get hurt...no one else." Neveah promised, sensing the other five dwarves slowly circling around to attack from behind her.

Neveah contemplated over how fast she could get to dwarf holding the child hostage but her contemplation quickly converted to blinding rage the mont she picked up the scent of blood and it was not from the dwarf she had killed.

Neveah watched a trickle of blood trail down the neck of the sleeping child from where the dwarf had pressed the blade in too close and the fragile strand of control Neveah held unto snapped.

Neveah did not move, at this mont it seed like the entire world ca still, and an unfamiliar sensation surged through Neveah’s veins.

There was the rage, but it was not that, it was sothing else entirely, a kind of foreign power that swelled within Neveah, she could hear nothing else, see nothing else but that one dwarf.

Her eyes were fixed on the dwarf whose eyes were also on her. Neveah stared at him, as though staring right through him and for a mont,

When Neveah looked in too deep, she could swear she felt the dwarf’s life force, vibrant and pulsing and Neveah knew she could end it from where she stood, she just knew.

’Snap it.’ That strange voice whispered in Neveah’s mind.

And Neveah did just that, just like she had done before with the elf guard, putting him to sleep, with her mind, she took hold of that strand of vibrant life and snapped hard.

Neveah was only drawn out of her haze when the dwarf collapsed to the ground still.

But Neveah did not have the ti to ponder, she spun around and lunged at the nearest dwarf, her claws at the ready and while the world still moved at a slow motion, and that foreign power still churned in Neveah’s veins,

All Neveah herself could feel was the warmth of blood beneath her claws and the sticky feeling as it sprayed over her face and clothing.

_____________

"Where is she?" narx demanded crossly, his gaze narrowed in displeasure as he stared at the librarian Mor’rud and Conrad, the only two who had seen Neveah leaving.

narx had only just returned from patrol to et Conrad and Fiona about going out in search of Neveah, saying Neveah had been gone for too long.

"My Lord, she headed to the forest about an hour ago and is yet to return. But we had received a report of a sighting of dwarves too close to the forest." Conrad reported.

"And you let her go alone?" narx hissed.

"Lady Neveah does not like being followed and she always goes into the forest for a walk, I did not find it strange. The forest is within patrol route, I did not think there was need to follow." Conrad reported in a guilty tone.

narx’s brows twitched slightly and he turned, intent on storming the forest but narx paused in his tracks when he sighted Neveah, erging from the forest line.

Cradled in her arms was a strange child but what had narx’s eyes was Neveah’s state.

Her white tunic was almost completely dyed red in blood and there were blood stains over her face.

"Veah!" narx exclaid in horror, rushing over to Neveah.

"It’s not my blood." Neveah assured, knowing where narx’s concern sourced from.

narx breathed a sigh of relief before his gazed moved down to the child, his brows narrowed in confusion, wondering where a child had appeared from.

"What happened?" narx asked in concern, peering down at the sleeping child to inspect his condition.

The child seed to be perfectly fine save for a small wound on his neck.

"I think I found out where the dwarves get all their magic from." Neveah murmured.

narx raised a brow in uncertainty.

Neveah breathed a quiet sigh, walking past narx over to Lodenworth and Keila, she handed the child to a wide eyed Keila.

"You would know better how to care for a Fae child." Neveah murmured.
