Chapter 382: The One At Fault (Ch.382)

Kaideon stared down at Neveah, there was a gleam in his eyes that had not been there up until this day.

He watched her drift off to sleep, his heart warm and overflowing with elation.

Now that Kaideon looked closely, there were more obvious differences between Neveah and Eira, features Neveah had that were more like Kaideon’s.

Neveah was everything Kaideon had imagined his daughter would look like, yet she had been right in front of him for months now and he had known nothing.

Kaideon shook off his thoughts, it was okay now since he had finally recognized her and Kaideon would be damned before he lost anymore ti than he already had.

Kaideon got up to his feet and adjusted the covers over Neveah before he headed out of the room.

narx still stood outside, leaned against the wall, his gaze settled on Kaideon as Kaideon stepped out of the room and shut the door behind him.

"How is she?" narx asked in concern.

"Asleep... emotionally distressed without a doubt." Kaideon relayed to narx.

narx stared blankly at Kaideon for a mont too long and Kaideon frowned.

"What are you staring at?" Kaideon asked.

"I...well, it’s been decades since I heard you speak, Kaideon. It’s hard to believe you’re actually talking to

right now." narx admitted.

"I chose not to speak, you all knew that." Kaideon murmured in response.

"I know, I guess we thought you would eventually let go of your pain...but you never did, and the silence beca your new identity." narx replied with a sigh.

"To think that after all these years since what happened...you actually fathered a child and that child is Veah." narx added in amazent, as he walked over to his door.

narx opened the door quietly and peered in, confirming Neveah was asleep before he shut the door again.

"Co, Jian summons you." narx said, he turned and lead the way up to Jian’s quarters with Kaideon trailing behind him.

They soon arrived at Jian’s quarters and narx knocked once before he pushed open the door and stepped in, leaving it open so Kaideon could co in after.

Jian was not in the outer room or his study and so narx headed out to the balcony which and sure enough, Jian stood there as usual,

His arms were crossed behind his back and he stared ahead at the mountain peaks that stretched on for as far as the eye could see.

"My Liege." narx and Kaideon greeted in unison.

"Hmm." Jian acknowledged their presence with a hum but he said nothing else, at least not imdiately.

"The box...it has you greatly worried." narx broke the silence after a short mont, knowing exactly what was on Jian’s mind.

"I have thought about it over and over again and I cannot figure out why they are after it in the first place." Jian began.

"They have had access to the hidden archives for centuries or Creator knows how much longer... first they took Fort Blazed, right off the face of the earth."

"Then they conjured a troll golem, an ancient sorcery that was ant to have died out."

"And now they have gotten their hands on a treasure they should have no knowledge of. What do they know...how much do they know exactly? "

"And what they plan to do with their knowledge Narx, that is what worries ." Jian murmured.

"We will spare no efforts to guard against their retaliation, My Liege. Staying on alert and ready for anything is the best we can do for now." narx replied.

Jian humd in response, stepping away from the balcony, he lead the way back into his study.

"We will discuss the best way to approach these threats when Cassian, Imagor and Kirgan return to the Keep." Jian said as he took his seat.

"Kaideon, tell ...is it for certain?" Jian asked, his attention moving to Kaideon who had been quiet all the while.

"It is." Kaideon replied with a nod.

Jian exhaled heavily, shaking his head slightly in a mix of astonishnt and bafflent.

"Then it is delightful news and good tidings for the dunes. What is your plan moving forward?" Jian asked.

"With the troll golem handled, I must return to the white dunes. And I intend to take my daughter with ." Kaideon replied directly.

"What?!" narx exclaid in disbelief.

"You heard . I do not like this keep for her, with poisons that get pushed off to the innocent, and things that go missing randomly, people that accuse others with no evidence and cliffs everywhere... I could go on." Kaideon deadpanned.

Neither Jian nor narx could counter any of Kaideon’s words, they could only stare at him in quiet guilt.

Everything Kaideon had just hinted at were so of the injustice Neveah had endured since arriving Dragon keep, beginning from when narx had Neveah take a cup of poison in Jian’s place at the Asvarian beacon.

"Kaideon...you can’t be serious..." narx finally said, his gaze narrowing guiltily.

"You should know I do not jest...ever." Kaideon reminded, ignoring narx’s gaze.

"What is that even supposed to an?!" narx hissed.

"I ant...you should think about this calmly first and hear

out." narx quickly adjusted in a more polite tone.

"No." Kaideon replied in a tone of finality much to narx’s horror.

"This is getting dramatic." Jian grumbled from where he sat, picking up a scroll to work on.

"Jian, say sothing. He can’t just take Veah away as he pleases! You’re the one most at fault here, you should take responsibility!" narx pulled Jian back into the situation he was obviously trying to be kept out of.

Jian passed narx a glare at his accusation before he cleared his throat slightly.

"Kaideon, the girl has just begun her studies at the academy, plus she has already undergone the first rging which ans it would do her no good to be away from Narx."

"There has been... unfortunate events indeed." Jian began ,

"But Dragon Keep is where Neveah is most used to and my brother is her dragon. She will be safe with him... and here in the keep, you have my word." Jian spoke up for narx with an exasperated sigh.
