Chapter 333: A Save Gone Wrong (Ch.333)
Azkar humd a quiet tune as he walked down the tunnel maze at a relaxed pace, it was a tune that always crept up on his mind and Azkar was not even sure where or when he had first heard it.
Azkar would not ponder over it now, he had already tried that and failed terribly, he just could not recall how he had co to know the tune or why he liked it so.
The inner citadel was a maze like city, linked to hundreds of tunnels that led to different outlets all throughout the stronghold.
This made for easy relocations of the adamantium ore before the dragons could even catch wind of it.
The dwarves had made good use of the last few decades since their great defeat at the hands of the dragons and Azkar was willing to comnd on that.
It had taken months for Azkar to even familiarize himself with the layout of these tunnels, especially those that were linked directly to the dwarf king’s abode.
But it had been worth it, now, Azkar could conveniently travel to any part of the strongholds unnoticed, just as the dwarves could.
Sowhere down the tunnel, Azkar picked up on footsteps but he did not pay it much heed, it was not the first ti a patrol unit had attempted to stop him.
"My Lord Azkar! Our King demands yer return the prisoner to the holding cells!" A guard called out from sowhere down the hall.
Azkar continued on his way, completely ignoring the warning. When all was said and done, Azkar was one who would only do as he pleased and who did not know this?
The dwarves would not dare attack, they knew Azkar would never hesitate to draw blood.
The alliance they shared was even just as beneficial to the dwarves as it was to Azkar, only then now, with war looming in the horizons, the dwarf king needed Azkar’s aid all the more.
Soon, Azkar had ventured so far into the tunnels that the dwarf guards had stopped following.
Now, he spared a glance down at the girl cradled in his arms, still fast asleep, under the influence of his spell.
She was beautiful, this was true but Azkar had lived long enough, he had seen even more beautiful won... this surely was not enough to marvel him.
But there was just sothing about this little wolf girl that stirred Azkar’s curiosity, till Azkar fully understood what it was, he would have her live.
Azkar was no fool, he knew well enough he had no reasons to interfere at this point... even knowing this, interfere was all Azkar wanted to do.
The labyrinth of tunnels were difficult to navigate, but having co this far, the dwarves would leave her be now.
Azkar knew the woman in his arms would find her way out. It was ti for him to return... the wrath of the dwarf king awaited him.
Azkar crouched down and gently placed the girl in his arms down, her head leaned against the tunnel wall.
Her eyebrows twitched visibly and Azkar knew she would awaken soon, to realize she now owed him a debt of life against her will.
Azkar smirked in delight, he did not reckon the little wolf would be all that pleased at this turn of events, but Azkar himself was curious to know where this entangled fate would lead.
"How would our next encounter be, I wonder?"
"In battle...with a sword at your throat perhaps..." Azkar murmured, grazing a finger over the tender skin of her exposed neck.
"Or in much warr delights? I should like to know, where the wheel of fate spins." Azkar said.
His gaze lingered for a mont’s longer and then he stepped away, retreating back the way he had co.
Azkar had not gone so far when he sensed a shift in the air, it was light and subtle, but even that was enough to trigger Azkar’s senses.
The shift was brief, but Azkar recognised it for what it was.
As fleeting and montary as it had been, the residues of ancient magic radiating off the tunnel walls could not be mistaken.
Azkar’s brows furrowed slightly as he slowly turned around, to find that indeed the open tunnel which had continued on right behind him had disappeared, to be replaced by a dead end.
The way back to the inner citadel was still as it was, but now, the little wolf girl was nowhere to be seen and all that was ahead of Azkar was an impenetrable tunnel wall.
"The dwarf king has concealed such a great ability from ... the rumours were true..." Azkar murmured.
Azkar knew just what had happened, in his rage, the dwarf king had shifted the layout of the tunnel labyrinth with an astonishing magical ability that could reform the very earth itself.
Such powerful magic could never have been wielded by a dwarf, unless there was sothing more to the dwarves... sothing Azkar in all his knowledge was still in the dark of.
"This was fae magic... nature magic stronger than any I have ever seen. How has the dwarf king co in possession of this and for how long have the dwarves held such ability..." Azkar murmured in quiet musings as he strode over to the wall that had taken the place of the open tunnel.
Azkar placed a palm on the wall and reached out with his magic, feeling deep into the fabrics of space, sourcing for that magic he had just felt.
But it was elusive, faded away as though it had never been there.
If there was one thing Azkar did feel, it was the new layout of the tunnel labyrinth and exactly in what direction the labyrinth had turned.
"The dwarf king is quite daring..." Azkar murmured to himself as he realised the tunnel that had been here just a mont ago now opened up to an entirely different destination...
And the last place Azkar wanted the little wolf girl to be.
