Chapter 295: Agitated Conrad (Ch.295)
The ascending room soon ca to a stop and Adrienne stepped out into the second level, her arms wrapped even tighter around herself to fend off the chills.
Adrienne glanced down the hallway of the second level, a complicated expression reflected in her eyes.
The second level was much different from all the lower levels, the decor was minimalistic, practically non existent.
Amongst the King’s guard, each were battle honed warriors who had lived through centuries of war and strife, it was only natural they would prefer their residing level to be bare.
Though the second level appeared more ordinary looking than the other levels, the difference lay in the prestige of the dragons residing there.
The second level was vast, untouched by most of the remodeling Lord Rodrick regularly allowed, but there was an exquisite and ancient elegance to the calm appearance.
It truly was what one would imagine a dragon’s lair to be like, and as large as this level was, there truly were only five dragon lords who were of the status to reside there.
Four in actuality, given Lord Xenon’s state.
In Adrienne’s eyes, the fourth level was all she had imagined it to be, a place where power and prestige could be felt even off the very walls, but this was not the level Adrienne desired, what she was after was far more than that.
Adrienne shivered visibly, the chill was rapidly becoming unbearable and her thin cloak hardly provided any coverage, she was certainly not dressed for the occasion.
It was not as though Adrienne even knew there would be an occasion, these chills were a strange and unfamiliar temperature in the keep.
The walls of dragon keep were never truly warm, there had always been an underlying cold aura exuded off of them but they had never been this devastating.
What exactly was Adrienne doing in Dragon Keep at such a ti, one would wonder? Adrienne herself was not certain, but with the troubles stirred in the stronghold, Adrienne could not bare to just sit still like every other resident...she did not consider herself to be an ordinary resident.
The fourth squadron had made a war base of the second and third levels, Adrienne had co out to find her sister in hopes that there could be sothing she could be of help for.
To be the most prestigious amongst the riders, Adrienne knew more than winning the heart of the dragon king, she would have to be accepted by his Lord Dragons.
They would need to see that she was worthy enough to be by the dragon king’s side, and what better opportunity but in troubled tis?
Adrienne hurried down the hallway as fast as her graceful steps could allow, though she was not familiar with the second level, she could still tell where the landing platform would be.
There, Adrienne knew she would find her sister and the battle Lords of the fourth squadron.
Adrienne soon arrived at the landing platform and she was imdiately halted by a dragon lord who stood by the door, a tall, blonde dragon lord she recognized to be one of the highest ranked dragons of the fourth squadron.
"Adron, it’s just ." Adrienne said with a small smile.
"Lady Adrienne, the keep is not a place to be at this ti. Please return to the citadel." Adron replied politely.
"I will just see Keila and be off, I won’t be a bother." Adrienne assured.
The dragon lord Adron thought over it for a mont before he nodded and stepped aside.
"Lord Lodenworth and his lady are just around the corner, there is much that requires their attention. Do make your business swift and be on your way." Adron instructed.
Adrienne forced a grateful smile to her lips, a smile that perfectly hid her displeasure at the words of the dragon lord and the command in his tone...they would only be able to speak down to her for so long.
In ti, no one would dare disregard her and this was the confidence that allowed Adrienne maintain her calm regardless of the situation.
"Will do." Adrienne agreed, lowering her head to a small bow of respect before she moved past Adron.
There was about a dozen dragon lords gathered around a large map set on a table in the landing platform, the platform had truly been converted to a war room and the atmosphere was cold and unfriendly.
The map spread out on the table showed a miniature depiction of the territories around the hidden city, and the dragon lords stood around, deciding on a flight path and attack formation.
The hidden city was unlike any of the other cities the dragons had subdued, it was entirely underground and would require a full proof strategy, a special attack thod and thorough planning.
Neither Lord Lodenworth, nor Keila, Adrienne’s sister were at the table and Adrienne glanced around the landing platform in search of them.
Adrienne did not find who she was searching for, but her eyes settled on a sight that caught her interest.
"Who hurt you? Tell ...just say the word and I will ensure they lose the limb with which they laid a hand on what’s mine!" An agitated Lord Dragon enquired of his rider.
The lord dragon in question was Lord Conrad, the imdiate subordinate of Lord Lodenworth of the fourth squadron and at this mont, Lord Conrad was visibly agitated as he examined his rider.
Lady Fiona, Lord Conrad’s rider nursed a head injury with a clean rag and Lord Conrad was certainly not pleased to see it.
The couple stood to the side, away from the rest of the dragon lords, not by Lord Conrad’s will since the dragon lord was ready to seek out the offending person who had hard his rider.
anwhile, Lady Fiona shushed her dragon and pulled him over to a farther corner so his words did not attract attention, but it was too late, Adrienne’s attention was already drawn.
Lord Conrad did not appreciate being shushed but he complied with his rider and moved to the side.
Lord Conrad the pulled Fiona’s hand away from her head, inspecting the injury closely.
"Fi...give
a na, that is all. I will seek an explanation for you at once." Lord Conrad assured his rider who shook her head quickly and whispered quiet words to him.
Adrienne moved closer to the couple, stopping by Lord Conrad and both eyes settled on her.
"It seems to be a scratch from a claw...a wolf’s claw." Adrienne offered an answer to Lord Conrad.
"Adrienne, please stay out of it!" Lady Fiona shushed quickly, but the words had already been said.
"A wolf’s claw?" Lord Conrad asked in a low, chilling tone.
His countenance had already changed to sothing dark and terrifying, his hands clenching into tight fists at the end.
"It’s nothing, I’m fine...it was just a mistake." Lady Fiona assured her dragon, passing an innocent looking Adrienne a glare.
"Mistake? Let the wolf say it to
herself!" Lord Conrad hissed as he strode away.
"Addie, what are you doing here?" Keila called from behind Adrienne and Adrienne spun around to et her sister’s questioning look.
"You should not be here...you are shaking in your boots, literally." Keila added, gesturing for Adrienne to follow her over to another table where Lord Lodenworth sat with a few of his imdiate subordinates.
"Dear girl, co here." Lord Lodenworth beckoned on Adrienne, reaching for the fur coat slung over the arm of his chair.
Lord Lodenworth got up to his feet and draped the coat over Adrienne’s shoulder, frowning slightly as he inspected her pale facial pallor.
"You should not be out and about the keep by this ti, it is unsafe." Lord Lodenworth chided as he placed a heated palm flat against Adrienne’s forehead.
Adrienne felt warmth surge through her veins as Lord Lodenworth’s fla aura worked it’s magic, driving away every chill and restoring Adrienne’s body heat.
Adrienne breathed a sigh of relief as Lord Lodenworth pulled the coat tighter around her.
"Beloved, see to your sister and then return." Lord Lodenworth said to his rider, gesturing for her to lead Adrienne away sso the dragon lords could resu their deliberations.
"Co on." Keila said, leading Adrienne back to a quieter side of the landing platform where their conversation would not hinder battle preparations.
"What is it, would you be needing sothing?" Keila asked worriedly.
"No, not at all." Adrienne replied with a shake of her head.
"What you did back there...provoking Conrad like that, is this another plot against the Lady of Ruby Scales?" Keila asked suspiciously.
Adrienne’s brows twitched in displeasure at the manner in which her sister regarded a re attendant.
Keila heaved a sigh as she caught the change in adrienne’s expression, she did not need to ask to know what exactly Adrienne was thinking.
"Addie, you may not favor it, but this is indeed her new identity, She is no longer an attendant you can harm as you please. You must now watch your actions around her or face Lord narx’s wrath." Keila warned.
