Chapter 199: Report Of A Sighting (Ch.199)
Dwarves...it was a race Neveah never had the displeasure of eting in her eighteen years of life,
Reasonably so since the Eclipse Domain and the werewolf territory was cut off from the rest of the supernatural realm.
However, Neveah had certainly heard the tales that were told of them, of their great empire, the hidden city beneath the ground and of their mischievous and vindictive nature.
It was not just that, dwarves were extrely territorial and greedy too, they hoarded minerals and ores, mining it only for their own benefits and cutting off all trades of precious tals in their territory.
The dwarves always had their eyes on one desire or the other and they were known to stop at nothing to get it, above all, they were extrely dangerous.
The dwarves were not a race to be trifled with, that much was obvious with how they alone could sohow resist the dominion of the dragons and retain their independence.
"Are dwarves a usual sighting in Maneward?" Neveah asked Trevin warily.
"Not exactly, they are allowed entry into dragon territory for the purpose of trade alone. What could they want from Roman?" Trevin asked in disbelief.
Neveah also could not provide an answer to that question, all she knew was that her senses could never be wrong.
Roman had been taken against his will and the culprit was of the dwarven race.
"I guess we will find that out when we find them." Neveah said as she continued through the forest, following Roman’s scent trail.
Tracking Roman’s scent led Neveah and Trevin through the forest and it seed they were getting closer and closer to the source till they broke out of the forest to find themselves a short distance from the bustling city of Maneward.
"The scent trail... cuts off here." Neveah revealed, her brows furrowed
slightly.
"Scales! We have to find Ro...we have to!" Trevin said in a horrified tone.
"They could not have gone anywhere else, it has only been a short ti. They must still be in Maneward." Neveah said with certainty.
"Veah... I have a bad feeling about this. Sothing tells
this will not go over smoothly." Neveah’s wolf thought to her.
Neveah’s hands clenched into fists, she had always avoided going into town even when Trevin or Lydia offered to take her.
She had thought it would finally be okay after all this ti had passed, but now, she was heading into Maneward not for a casual affair but a troubleso one.
Neveah knew it well enough that stepping foot in Maneward would be a risk, but she did not think twice about it.
"I will let you handle things this ti." Neveah thought back to her wolf as she nodded to Trevin.
_______________
The doors to Jian’s study ca open and narx stepped in, not surprised to find Jian at his desk, a pile of files and scrolls awaiting his attention.
narx was certain Jian had sensed his presence, but Jian did not acknowledge him, completely focused on his work.
"May I co in?" narx asked hesitantly.
"You are already in." Jian replied without glancing up.
narx sighed, it had taken him a few hours to convince himself to go after Jian, after Jian had left furiously and now Jian was blatantly ignoring him.
"Are you really going to be like this?" narx asked with a frown.
Though narx was making an attempt to ease the tension, that did not an he did not bla Jian for what had happened to Neveah.
All narx wanted to do at this point was hole himself up in his quarters, not moving an inch till Neveah returned because he simply would not believe she was dead.
However, Jian’s words reminded narx that as a pillar of the Asvarian stronghold, he could not always do things the way he wanted.
There was always a need to consider the empire under the protection of the King’s guard.
"What am I being like?" Jian countered, finally glancing up at narx, a cold glare in his eyes.
"You’re giving
the look... the look you give everyone else but us." narx pointed out with a sigh.
"I have adjusted the flight patrol for the next month. I have cleared your schedule, assigned all your duties to Decaron and Lodenworth."
"I have ordered you are not to be disturbed, so however it pleases you...do as such." Jian permitted in a blank tone.
"Jian...you are being unreasonable and vindictive." narx said with a shake of his head.
"I am giving you the ti you need...to return to yourself." Jian corrected.
"I do not need ti... I won’t ever be fine with this... with her being gone. I won’t ever co to terms with it or accept it." narx replied with a sigh.
Jian stared at narx for a mont before he shook his head.
"I thought you knew better than to let a woman consu you." Jian murmured beneath his breath.
"I did know better, yet she did." narx sighed.
"And if she truly is...gone? Will I bear your loss too?" Jian asked the question that had burdened his mind these past ten days.
Before narx or Jian could say anymore, the doors to Jian’s study were thrown open and Decaron rushed in.
"We found her!" Decaron exclaid in a rush, his words imdiately attracting both Jian and narx’s attention.
"Her..." narx trailed off, not daring to hope that Decaron truly referred to who he thought.
"Word arrives the keep, the dwarves have stirred trouble just as expected. The dragon guards have been dispatched to handle it."
"But... along with this report cos word of a sighting. A wolf with midnight blue fur..." Decaron revealed hurriedly.
Midnight blue fur, that beautiful coat that glowed in the moonlight...
narx had seen it a good few tis...on those nights she would sneak into the courtyard, under the cover of darkness, believing no one could see her.
How could Neveah have known that far up amongst the clouds, a red scaled beast watched her, a warm feeling nestled in his heart...a feeling that had now co to stay.
And so narx knew it could not be anyone else.
"Where?" narx asked in a low tone.
"Maneward." Decaron reported.
That was all the word narx needed, in the next mont, he was gone from sight.
