Chapter 182: No Dragon (Ch.182)

"Dante... has asked for my hand?" Estelle asked slowly, the words were shocking to her and difficult to comprehend too.

It was extrely rare to find a dragon lord seeking to be wed to one who was not his fated, this was just how much the dragons honored their bonded.

They were willing to wait for centuries and centuries till they found that missing piece of their soul, they would never settle for anything less.

However, there were still exceptions much like in this case where it was already a certainty that Dante would not need to wait to find his fated anymore.

When a dragon lost a rider, he could choose to form a bond with a new rider or remain without a rider.

A bond ford with a new rider would ease the pain of severing, and replace the bond that had been severed, for dragons who endured a severing, this was considered the right choice.

Even so, it was a decision that was made after careful consideration and this new bond could only be ford with one the dragon trusted completely.

"But... but why?" Estelle stuttered out in bafflent.

She could not understand why Dante would choose to bond her without even a single word said after an entire decade of being apart.

"Don’t you know it? You both grew up together, you are the only woman Dante has kept a close relationship with in these years. Only a bond with you will be successful." Lord Starron replied, heaving another sigh.

Lord Starron also did not find the situation pleasant, he had no intentions to set his daughter to a marriage arrangent.

To relay such words to his daughter was difficult for him but Lord Starron felt he could at least do this much for Dante and he thought perhaps Estelle would not be unwilling.

Dante was afterall a man Estelle cared about and always rembered fondly even after a decade.

"You know how the Lord of Fort Scabbard is. He would never seek for help unless he is left with no choice, I am also perplexed at receiving word from Fort Scabbard on such short notice." Lord Starron began thoughtfully.

"Whatever their intentions are, you need not be burdened Elle."

"The decision is ultimately up to you, but I have accepted his request to reside in blazed castle for a few months. In this ti, you two may get to know..." Lord Starron began but was cut off.

"No!" Estelle interrupted, directly declining the arrangent.

Lord Starron fell quiet in light of Estelle’s rejection, he had known Estelle would never agree to an arranged marriage.

Lord Starron himself had no interest in letting his daughter bond with a man she did not love, however Estelle’s tone of voice surprised Lord Starron.

"No Father, I cannot marry Dante." Estelle continued, shaking her head firmly.

"I speak not of marriage but hosting a dear friend in our castle where his childhood mories were left. But if you will not have Dante here,"

"Could it be that... you already have soone in mind?" Lord Starron asked his daughter in a baffled tone.

Estelle’s expression turned guilty and she bit her lip, falling into absolute silence.

How could Estelle explain to her father who exactly this person she had in mind was? How could she face her father’s wrath?

But Estelle could only think of how hurt Jason would be if he caught wind of her hosting Dante, whilst knowing of Dante’s intentions.

"The fact that you do not imdiately refute my words tell that I am right. How co you have said nothing of it?" Lord Starron asked with a deep frown.

Had Lord Starron known Estelle’s heart was already set on another, he would never have considered the offer from Fort Scabbard in the first place.

"Father... I..." Estelle stuttered out nervously but found herself cut off when Lord Starron made a much too accurate assumption.

"This expression you have on your face and your lack of words... don’t tell

the person you have in mind is one I would never approve of?" Lord Starron asked suspiciously.

After saying those words, while Estelle looked apalled by her father’s guess, Lord Starron thought deeper of it and figured it out.

"A human...a human with no Asvarian heritage." Lord Starron concluded in a low tone, his gaze furrowing to one of intense displeasure.

Realizing there was no way out of it now, Estelle lowered her head, nodding slowly in acceptance of her father’s words.

This was not the way Estelle had hoped to break such news to her father knowing how much it would displease him.

But it had already co to this and it was a year now since Estelle and Jason had been together, Estelle could not keep it hidden any longer.

"Father...he is the one I love, and so I cannot wed Dante...or bond with him." Estelle said in a low tone.

"He?...Who is it?" Lord Starron asked in a low but dangerous growl.

"Are you going to harm him?" Estelle asked nervously, watching the fierce look on her father’s eyes.

"He dares covet my daughter...he must have a death wish." Lord Starron did not even deny his intentions.

"But father! He has done nothing wrong!" Estelle exclaid in frustration.

"No, he has not. You are the one who has done wrong. While you give your heart to a mortal...did you stop to consider the haunting fact that you will be sure to outlive him by many centuries?!" Lord Starron snapped furiously.

Lord Starron could not understand why his daughter would be one of those who chose to desire the unattainable when nature itself had made certain these two races could never beco one.

"We will find a way past it...we will..." Estelle replied shakily.

"Why do you think dragons do not keep the company of mortals?! We are of different worlds!" Lord Starron hissed.

"But you bonded a mortal father! Many dragons find their fated amongst the mortals!" Estelle countered.

"A Dragon can grant his longevity to be shared with the one he loves...but Elle, you are no dragon..." Lord Starron reminded in a heavy tone.
