Chapter 179: A Familiar Na (Ch.179)

"Are there truly no she-dragons?" Neveah asked curiously.

Trevin had ntioned it twice now and it was only then Neveah really she truly had not t a female dragon, there were only female riders.

Neveah had not t many dragons, but she had t enough and all the dragons Neveah had t where those who held the highest ranks in the stronghold.

Amongst them all, even back at the council, Neveah had not noticed even a single female dragon shifter.

She had once wondered about it but with all that had been going on, Neveah had completely forgot.

Hearing Trevin ntion it now, Neveah’s curiousity was rekindled.

The history books Neveah had read told nothing of this phenonon, how could it be that only male dragons traversed the skies of the stronghold?

It was much too odd to think the dragons had but one gender.

"Father and mother told

so. I heard so from my teachers too, all our Lord Dragons are males...there has never been a female she dragon." Roman replied with a nod.

"How co it is so? All species birth male and female, how can the dragons birth one gender alone?" Neveah asked in bafflent as she took a seat on a log.

Trevin glanced over at Neveah before shaking his head slightly.

"Our Lord Dragons are the sacred leaders of the stronghold, we do not speak casually of them..." Trevin began in a tone if reverence.

"I should not pry then." Neveah murmured in understanding.

Neveah pouted slightly, feeling disappointed that she would not get to satisfy her curiousity but her curiosity was rekindled by Trevin’s next words.

"But I can tell you if you are so curious to know. Actually, it is not that the Lord dragons do not father the female gender, they do father female offsprings... however, it is extrely rare."

"One in every hundred birth turns out to be a female, and even then, the female offsprings of dragons do not have the ability to shift." Trevin explained as he moved the logs.

Neveah frowned slightly, without the ability to shift, that would an the female offsprings of dragons were born humans.

"You an they are humans?" Neveah asked in bafflent.

"Not exactly, no one with pure Asvarian blood can be called a human. They are blessed with heightened physical abilities... faster and stronger than every other human."

"They are also stronger than other Asvarian humans, however, they are not dragons. They cannot shift and do not have the other gifts that dragons do." Trevin explained.

Trevin’s words intrigued Neveah more and she thought over it for a mont.

Since she began reading of the dragons, Neveah had found herself much too interested in tales of their past for soone who wanted nothing to do with them.

If she did not know better, Neveah would even think she acted like soone who wanted to know more about the dragons...to understand them.

"Why? Why can the male offspring shift into dragon form but not the females?"

"Has it always been so right from the beginning? Or could sothing have gone wrong at so point in history?" Neveah found herself asking one question after another.

Neveah could not even understand why she was so interested, she had not even been this interested in the founding history of the wolf shifters,

Yet when it ca to the dragons, she just was.

Trevin laughed heartily at Neveah’s string of questions, shaking his head slightly.

"Seeing how eager you are, I wish I knew the answer to your questions. But truly, no one but the Lord dragons themselves know exactly why it is so...or if it has always been so."

"As much as the rest of us know, there has never been a she-dragon... but our lifespan is much too short and the Lord Dragons have outlived generations of us."

"Perhaps what we know might only be what our tis allow us to. The past is gone with it’s tales, known only to a few."

"If one wishes to know of dragons, one would have to ask a dragon." Trevin concluded with a shrug.

Trevin’s words were awfully familiar and reminded Neveah of exactly what narx would always tease.

Neveah’s lips twitched slightly, before she quickly shook her head and focused her attention on the present curiousity.

"So they are humans...but not exactly humans?" Neveah asked uncertainly,

"Ah...here in the stronghold, there is a na given to them. You may call it a title of reverence and respect." Trevin replied with a shrug.

"A title? What is that?" Neveah asked in intrigue.

"Light blood...They are called light bloods." Trevin replied, again his tone was that of deep reverence and there was a smile on his lips.

However, Neveah did not take note of Trevin’s expression at all, instead her mind replayed the words he had just said.

Lightblood... the na sounded all too familiar, Neveah was certain she had heard it before but she just could not rember when or where.

It was as though the mory was right beneath her mind but she just could not grasp it no matter how hard she tried.

"Co on in you all, lunch is ready! Quickly Veah, you need to eat on ti to hasten your recovery!" Lydia called out to them.

Trevin placed down the last of the logs and walked over to Neveah who still sat on the log, lost in thoughts.

Neveah had not even heard Lydia’s call, it was Trevin’s voice that finally drew her out of her thoughts.

"Is it so interesting that it has you in a daze? Co on now, do not let the food run cold." Trevin said, gesturing for Neveah to get up to her feet.

Neveah complied, letting Trevin take away that one final log before they both headed back into the small cottage.

As Neveah walked, her mind was still weighed with a deep feeling of familiarity and she just could not shake it off.

"Lightblood?... Where have I heard that na before...?" Neveah wondered to herself as she headed in.
