Chapter 127: Bad Side (Ch.127)

Neveah walked down the halls of the Dragon Keep, a pile of neatly folded clothing held in her arms, she had only just returned from laundering Xenon’s clothing and now she headed to the seamstress.

It was still quite early in the day and Neveah knew Xenon would not be expecting her yet, she had stayed quiet late in his cave, much later than she usually did and that was because Xenon had drifted off to sleep with his tail rested on her lap.

The weight of his tail was so much, Neveah could not shove it off, not like she dared to for fear of incurring the wrath of a certain grumpy black dragon.

Neveah had tried everything humanly possible to get Xenon to awaken as the sun made it’s descent but it just would not.

A dull ache spread across Neveah’s lap and she balanced the pile of clothing on one hand, leaning down to rub the aching spot.

With each day spent with Xenon, Neveah ca to realize that just as everyone said, Xenon’s humanity truly was gone.

From providing als, to overprotectiveness, to dominance, all Xenon ever did were manifestations of the primal instincts of beasts.

What was even further prove was the fact that this was not the first ti an innocent act of Xenon’s ended up hurting Neveah instead.

Having the weight of Xenon’s tail on her much weaker human legs for hours straight had left her legs feeling numb and aching terribly, his scales had also cut into her tender skin.

But Xenon did not take notice of it and Neveah could not bring herself to say anything knowing it was not his intention to hurt her,

"How are your legs?" A voice asked from beside Neveah and Neveah glanced over at Davina who had co up to her side.

"How do you appear out of nowhere?" Neveah grumbled.

A small smirk spread across Davina’s lips at Neveah’s pitiful expression.

"I am everywhere trying to set everything in order with my attendants and avoid my father’s wrath..."

"Now you are the one attendant my father is most concerned about, I certainly have to set aside the ti to keep a closer eye on you." Davina defended with a grin.

"Yeah...there are so many of you keeping eyes on

that all I see in my dreams now are eyes... thousands of them." Neveah grumbled.

"That is rather disturbing." Davina replied with a chuckle and Neveah passed her a glare.

"You think?" Neveah asked, gesturing to the group of attendants ahead who were fully engaged in their conversation but completely stopped all conversation as they noticed Neveah’s approach.

"They do that whenever I go past and then they stare at

secretly, perhaps believing I do not notice their stare." Neveah pointed out.

Exactly as she had said, she could feel the eyes of the attendants trailing her and her sensitive ears picked up on their conversation.

"Do you not see the color she wears? She is the attendant of the black fiend..." One of the attendants whispered in a low tone,

"I hear she used to be a princess of the wolf shifters but was sold off as a bed companion to Our Liege... only that Our Liege didn’t want her and tossed her off to Lord Xenon." Another attendant revealed.

"How terrible! The werewolves should have just surrendered all those centuries ago... now look, they have to sell off their daughters now." A third attendant sympathized.

"You had best watch out for her, who knows what darkness she brings with her from the wolf territory? The black fiend and a disgraced princess... truly a perfect match." The first attendant said again.

"Veah... I have told you not to give ear to their words." Davina chided, though her tone was sympathetic.

"What can I do when I cannot help but hear it? They know the wolf shifters bring darkness... one would think they would know we have sensitive hearing too." Neveah said with a quiet chuckle.

"You cannot bla them for their thoughts Neveah, rumours of you have been spreading from the very day you arrived and they grow more outrageous as the days pass."

"If Our Liege does not clarify your status, I fear you will have to get used to this." Davina advised.

"Used to? I already am." Neveah replied blankly,

"Are you truly not bothered by what they say?" Davina asked uncertainly and Neveah nodded.

"Things like these? Why should I be?" Neveah asked with a shrug.

Before Davina could respond, every conversation in the hall ca to a stop and all attendants moving by quickly moved to the corner.

Davina grabbed hold of Neveah’s wrist and pulled her to the side just in ti for the most revered existences after the dragons to step in.

"Riders Veah, what did I tell you of them?" Davina whispered to Neveah as she lowered her head to a small bow.

Riders... Neveah had only seen them once before, and as always, their entrance was grand.

A long line of them strode into the keep, each dressed in well tailored riding clothing, so in dresses and others in combat suits made from pure leather.

The color of their clothing were all different, various shades of greens, blues, browns and every color one could think of, matched to the scale of their dragons.

Their weapons were strapped to their hips or backs and they walked in a regal manner, with powerful and imposing strides, their shoulders held high.

Amongst the riders, there were both male and female, their gazes were fierce and purposeful as they strode in, everything about them scread power and prestige and Neveah admitted she was impressed by their bearing.

Lined up in perfect sequence, they walked down the hallway. This ti, there were many more of them than Neveah had t in the first instance,

There were about twenty of them walking down the hall while previously, Neveah had only seen five.

Each one had their own uniquely imposing aura and moving as one like this, it made all who watched them feel unworthy to even breathe the sa air as them.

"The quickest way to get on the bad side of a Lord Dragon is to displease their rider..." Neveah murmured in response to Davina’s question as the riders went by them.

Neveah felt a gaze on her and she raised a brow when she picked out a beautiful red haired female rider who regarded Neveah for a brief mont before the rider’s gaze moved away.

"Now you’ve done it." Davina murmured in an exasperated tone when the riders had gone down the hall.

"What did I do? Do I have to bow to them too?" Neveah asked with a raised brow and Davina sighed.

"The rider who stared at you... what color did she wear?" Davina asked with a raised brow.

"Dark green..." Neveah began, trailing off as it dawned on her what Davina was referring to.

"Lord Lodenworth’s scales are dark green..." Neveah said with a wince.

"Lord Lodenworth’s scales are dark green." Davina concurred

"And that rider? She is the Lady Keila, fairy princess and Lady Adrienne’s elder sister." Davina revealed.

"So what... the annoying fairy told on

to her sister already?" Neveah asked with a roll of her eyes.

"Veah...do not make light of it, I will say this again, everyone of high status within this keep can and will harm you if you displease them...you do not want to get on their bad side." Davina advised.

"That would depend on who has the more terrifying bad side." Neveah asserted with a dark tone.

Davina heaved a sigh of resignation though her lips twitched slightly.

"You know, you never do act like a Princess... except for tis like this where nothing intimidates you." Davina comnted and Neveah shrugged.

"Co on, I’ll join you to the seamstress and afterwards, you can go see your Lord Dragon." Davina said with a shake of her head.

"A council of riders has been called but I do not sense Kalia...tell

she is in good health." Jian said in a fond tone as Imagor and Everon walked into his study,

They had spent all night scouring through the archives and only just erged.

"Her pregnancy term has been difficult, Kalia is frail and I fear my child burdens her too greatly." Imagor said with a heavy sigh, feeling sad at the thought of his rider.

Jian was just about to respond when he noticed Imagor freeze up, his hand shooting up to clutch his chest where his reverse scale rested even in human form.

"Imagor! Are you alright?!" narx panicked, jumping to his feet and hurrying over to Imagor’s side.

"It’s Kalia... I feel her pain... I think she is going into labor!" Imagor forced out with a pained hiss.

"She is only five months gone... the child cannot be born now!" Everon exclaid.

"What can be done?! You must have a way!" Jian demanded of Everon as he rose to his feet and strode over to Imagor, placing a hand on his shoulder to calm him.

"Molt scales! It should calm the foetus." Everon replied imdiately.

"Everon, go with Imagor, take out the molt scales reserved for , I do not care how much of it must be used. You must save Imagor’s child, at any cost!" Jian ordered urgently.
