Chapter 477: Chapter 477: It’s Actually a Dead End
“Hmm, an hour and twenty minutes, I saw the ti just awhile ago, wait, I’ll go have a look,”
As the hunter spoke, he stood up and walked towards the middle of the river.
He estimated the river’s width with a glance and then compared it to the downstream section.
“It seems to be getting narrower, if we keep going, I estimate in less than half an hour we should reach the upper end.”
“Great, we can almost see hope now, co on, I’ll carry you.”
It was as if at this mont, his body was filled with vitality once again.
He reached out his hand and pulled Ling’er up.
“No, no, that’s absolutely not okay. If you’re carrying , it’ll be a bigger burden. Instead, let’s try this, after you treated just now, I do feel a lot better, though it still hurts a bit. If you both support , one on each side, that should work.”
“Is that possible? Can we manage that?”
“Don’t worry, it’s absolutely no problem. If you each take one side like that, you can share the pressure between you.”
Ling’er ca up with a good idea, and indeed, it was sothing they could manage quite easily.
He nodded to Hei Lang, then they stood on either side of Lin Yi.
The group continued to move forward with difficulty.
As the hunter had said, in probably less than 20 minutes, they actually saw the upper edge.
Water trickled down from above.
“What, what’s going on here?”
As he said this, he suddenly turned and looked at the hunter.
He noticed the hunter also looked perplexed.
Normally, since they were moving against the current, they should have reached the water’s source.
And the water’s source should have been in an even deeper place, but now they felt as though they had been climbing upward.
“If that’s the case, then could it be that this river is not really an underground river?”
“Hmm, I’ve noticed as well. There seems to be sothing wrong. This doesn’t seem like the kind of underground river we imagined it would be.”
“If it were an underground river, the water should co from the deepest point. Why is it flowing down from here? If we go upward, could it be a waterfall or maybe a mountain spring?”
“It doesn’t look like a mountain spring, nor does it look like a waterfall. The flow is too slow to be a waterfall.”
“This is really strange. If it’s not groundwater, nor a spring, then where is this water coming from?”
“I feel like the topography here is indeed strange. I’ve always had the impression we were going upward, but actually, we must be heading deeper. Feel it for yourselves.”
While speaking, the hunter took a deep breath and looked around.
In fact, the surrounding environnt was largely the sa as when they first arrived.
They didn’t notice anything unusual, just that the feeling of cold dampness seed to intensify.
“Aside from feeling a bit colder and my body sowhat damp, I don’t notice anything else.”
“That proves we are indeed going down.”
“But I clearly saw us going up; going down should be easier.”
In Lin Yi’s opinion, one’s own body is the most honest.
It should respond to any sensations, and it certainly wouldn’t be as it seed now.
“I’m not sure either. All these years, I’ve never encountered such an anomaly. I feel that we can’t stay long in this cave; we should speed up, get around this spot, and see if there’s any other way out beyond.”
The hunter dared not delay any longer in this place, and he couldn’t easily make judgnts about this unclear geological condition.
When they bypassed the river, they discovered that there was a dead end beyond it.
The hunter seed to not believe it and walked forward, knocking on the wall forcefully with the tools he carried.
But there was no result whatsoever.
“How about it, can you break through?”
“No, these stones are incredibly hard; it’s impossible to break through.”
“That’s enough, do you have any machines on your end?”
“No, I don’t have any machinery capable of breaking through these stones, and I can tell they are extrely tough.”
“That’s troubleso. If we keep going around in circles like this, it seems as though we’ve entered a dead end, and from here, there’s no way forward.”
To the left is the river they just passed.
Now, they were forced into the furthest, most marginal spot.
Lin Yi wasn’t ready to give up, not yet. After so much hardship and covering such a long distance, could it really be that their entire journey had been a mistake?
“This isn’t right. Based on previous estimates, there should be a way around from here, which ans the direction of the river must be wrong.”
“Does that an we’ve gone the wrong way?”
“It’s very likely.”
Even though they had prepared for the worst, when the hunter uttered those words, it truly disheartened everyone.
“But that doesn’t make sense. If we had gone in another direction from where we were before, the river would only widen, and we would still end up at the river’s end. If that’s the case, how do we leave? Don’t tell we have to go back the way we ca?
“Going back the way we ca is impossible, and even if we did, I’m afraid it wouldn’t be for another three days.”
“What? Three whole days? Does that an all of us are trapped here for that long?”
“If we don’t go back the way we ca, then it looks like we have no other way out.”
After the hunter spoke, everyone fell silent.
Having walked so long, had they really reached a dead end?
