Chapter 42: Chapter 42: What Do You Think You’re Doing to My Employer?
Fang Shuwen swung the black-robed man in a wide arc, sweeping him brutally at the others.
Their Body Techniques were indeed extraordinary, but they could not fool Fang Shuwen’s eyes.
The sweep landed squarely in the path of Feng Mantian and Guan Tianyue.
Two loud THUDS rang out!
Two figures were sent flying backward. Feng Mantian flipped in mid-air and landed on his feet, while Guan Tianyue hit the ground rolling.
At this moment, willing or not, Feng Mantian understood the battle was lost.
Though his Martial Arts were the strongest in this group, he couldn’t possibly kill this many people at once.
But Fang Shuwen could...
Therefore, he had no confidence he could win against Fang Shuwen.
He would have fought Fang Shuwen to the death right after Li Nanchen died. But now that he had calmed from that state of extreme agitation, he remembered the old saying: where there’s life, there’s hope.
He had endured thirty years of hiding. Surely he could endure a little longer?
’This scoundrel has already brought disaster upon himself. He’ll die sooner or later, so why should I throw my life away fighting him today?’
The thought had barely crossed his mind when he spun around and saw Zuo Qingshuang and Xu Chongshan.
He instantly reached out to grab them!
Xu Chongshan and Zuo Qingshuang had been watching the battle intently. Seeing Feng Mantian suddenly turn on them, they were hardly about to be taken without a fight.
They drew their swords, ready to fight to the bitter end.
But they didn’t expect it. Just as their blades lunged forward, Feng Mantian abruptly twisted his body. Like a wisp of black smoke, he flashed past them, his hand hooking like a claw as he shot straight for Zhou Qingmei!
This wasn’t a random move; it was a calculated one.
Lu Xiaoqing was heavily injured and would have been an easier target.
The problem was, she could barely move.
She would be a massive burden to carry.
Zhou Qingmei, however, was different. Fang Shuwen had come all the way from Julu City with her. It was safe to say that if he wasn’t protecting her, he never would have waded into this murky business.
Therefore, threatening Fang Shuwen with anyone else would be useless, but using Zhou Qingmei was guaranteed to work.
She was the key to his escape!
Seeing this, Zuo Qingshuang and Xu Chongshan both cursed him under their breath.
Zhou Qingmei was Zuo Qingshuang’s disciple. She knew her student was exceptionally talented, but the fact remained that no matter how gifted, a disciple of Zhou Qingmei’s age could never hope to contend with an old Demon like Feng Mantian.
She would be captured in a single move.
It was too late to turn and stop him.
They could only watch helplessly as Feng Mantian’s fingers closed in on Zhou Qingmei’s neck... But just an inch away, his motion stopped dead.
Not because he didn’t want to, but because he couldn’t!
A hand had pierced through his Black Death True Qi and landed on his shoulder, completely untouched.
The Black Death True Qi writhed and struggled, as if using all its might to repel the hand... but it couldn’t make it waver in the slightest.
Fang Shuwen’s voice, so cold it made Feng Mantian’s scalp crawl, whispered beside his ear:
"What do you think you’re doing to my employer?"
In that moment, a sliver of fear pierced Feng Mantian’s heart.
It was no wonder this old Demon was panicking—he who had once dominated the Jianghu thirty years ago, forcing the Seven Great Sects to unite just to hunt him down.
It was mainly because Fang Shuwen’s battle record was simply too astonishing.
The experts Feng Mantian had brought, himself included, couldn’t even put up a decent struggle against Fang Shuwen.
Every person he struck died, each death more gruesome than the last.
He was ruthless, vicious, and killed without batting an eye.
’If the so-called righteous heroes were all like him, there’d be no place left for their Demon Sect.’
His attempt to use the chaos to capture Zhou Qingmei and hold her hostage had failed, and now he would surely face a vicious counterattack.
’I absolutely cannot die here!!’
Feng Mantian’s heart sank. With a furious roar, he unleashed his Black Death Demon Technique without reservation. An eerie, demonic hum filled the air, seeking to shatter his opponent’s focus.
He couldn’t break free from the hand on his shoulder, so he stopped trying.
Pushing off with his feet, he threw his entire body directly into Fang Shuwen’s chest.
The force of this ram was extraordinary. While the Black Death Demon Technique was a Demon Technique with a limited ceiling...
But Feng Mantian had been a top expert even back then, and he had thirty years of bitter cultivation behind him. The force of this collision was no less than that of a toppling mountain.
An ordinary person wouldn’t even be able to think of blocking it; a mere graze would cause their True Qi to stagnate, their tendons to snap, and their bones to shatter.
Even with this all-out attack, Feng Mantian didn’t hope to actually harm Fang Shuwen. But he thought it should at least be enough to break free and push Fang Shuwen back a few steps.
But in the next instant, his heart plummeted.
He hadn’t moved an inch!!
Fang Shuwen’s hand was like a pillar holding up the heavens. Despite Feng Mantian’s all-out assault, it hadn’t moved in the slightest.
’How is this possible?’
Feng Mantian was horrified!
’At my full power, even someone like Lou Yuxiao would have to step aside.’
’So how could it have no effect at all on Fang Shuwen?’
’Just where did this monster come from?’
"You want to ram into me, is that it?"
Fang Shuwen’s voice drifted into his ear:
"Then allow me to oblige."
As his words fell, he swung one arm. Feng Mantian felt an irresistible, terrifying force fling him behind Fang Shuwen.
Just as he stumbled, his footing unsteady, Fang Shuwen slammed into him with his whole body.
"I..."
Feng Mantian wanted to say something, but it was too late. In the next instant, he felt as if he’d been struck by a mountain.
The immense force originated in his chest, spreading to his limbs in an instant.
Before he could even process the sensation in his limbs, he vanished from his spot with a WHOOSH.
There was a tremendous BOOM!!
The main hall’s inner wall had been blasted clean through. Feng Mantian, living up to his title as the Sect Leader of the Black Death Sect, was somehow still alive. He scrambled to his feet.
Before he could even spit out the blood welling in his throat, Fang Shuwen was already upon him.
Five fingers clamped onto his head, lifting him clean off the ground before viciously slamming him back down!
GAAH!!
Blood gushed from all seven of his facial orifices as Fang Shuwen raised his right fist, bringing the Four Seas Dragon Fist crashing down.
BAM!
BAM!!
BAM!!!
After three consecutive punches, the light in Feng Mantian’s eyes had completely vanished.
With that done, Fang Shuwen looked up.
In that moment, a chill ran down everyone’s spine. No one wanted to meet his gaze... so they all suddenly looked very busy.
Some scratched their heads, others looked away.
As it turned out, all this looking around yielded a result. Someone pointed toward the entrance of the hall and shouted:
"Guan Tianyue is getting away!"
Hearing this, Guan Tianyue wanted to curse. ’Which bastard snitched on me?’
If Fang Shuwen hadn’t broken his leg earlier, he would’ve been long gone. He had taken advantage of the fiend’s lack of attention and everyone else’s focus on the fight with Feng Mantian to crawl all the way here, only to fail at the very last step!
He tried to speed up, pushing off with both palms and using his Inner Strength to launch himself forward like a great toad.
But a large shadow suddenly fell over him. He looked up to see Xu Chongshan, his face covered in blood, looming over him.

PS: This is the last time I’ll be releasing Chapters separately. Starting tomorrow, I’ll post two Chapters together at 6 PM. This should help avoid that feeling of reading two thousand words with no resolution. This section really did drag on a bit, and I’m a little embarrassed. Alas, I was constrained by the Chapter length format. The final two Chapters that wrap this up will be released for everyone.
