"Little Xi," Jian Ci said, his voice breaking, "what did you an by that?" This was his third ti asking the sa question and he wouldn’t let Yu Xi go until he answered him honestly.

Yu Xi t his gaze, and in those dark eyes he saw hurt, anxiety, and a storm of emotions he couldn’t bear to face. He turned his head away, unable to endure it.

But Jian Ci wasn’t letting him escape. He pressed Yu Xi’s wrists together with one hand, his other hand reaching to pinch Yu Xi’s chin, forcing him to look back at him.

"Little Xi," Jian Ci repeated, his voice trembling, "what did you an?"

Yu Xi clenched his jaw, his chest tight. He had never told anyone this, not even Xiaobao. But now, cornered by Jian Ci’s desperation, he let the truth spill out.

"Before you rescued ," Yu Xi whispered, his voice raw, "I was prepared to die that day."

Jian Ci’s grip loosened instantly, shock flashing across his face. His eyes widened, his breath caught.

Yu Xi’s voice was steady, though his heart trembled. "If it wasn’t you who walked through those cell doors... I would have let them kill . After all, I had killed their boss."

Jian Ci let go of him and sat down heavily on the bed, his shoulders slumped, his expression defeated. The thought gnawed at him, if he had been a day late, he would have walked into that underground lab only to find Yu Xi’s corpse.

The mory of that raid burned in his mind. Jian Rui had wanted to delay, to double-check the intelligence, to make sure everything was perfect. But Jian Ci had opposed it, his voice firm: You have been planning the attack for months, let’s just go for it.

If he hadn’t stood his ground that day, Yu Xi would have been gone.

Jian Ci stared into the blank air, his mind conjuring the unbearable image of Yu Xi cold, lifeless and beyond reach. He wouldn’t have had the chance to know him, to laugh with him, to fight beside him. He would have been robbed of the chance to et the love of his life.

He didn’t even realize when the tears began to flow, hot and silent, streaking down his cheeks. Just the thought alone shattered his heart into a million pieces.

Yu Xi cupped his face gently, grounding him. Jian Ci leaned into the touch, his hand covering Yu Xi’s, clinging to it as though it was the only thing keeping him from falling apart.

"If I had been a day late," Jian Ci whispered, his voice rough, "then I would have never t you."

Yu Xi didn’t answer with words. He pulled Jian Ci into a hug so tight it stole his breath, one arm banding around his waist, the other hand cradling the back of his head. Jian Ci let himself be pulled, resting his forehead against the solid plane of Yu Xi’s chest, listening to the frantic beat of his heart. A heart that had wanted to stop.

"But you didn’t," Yu Xi murmured into his hair, his voice thick. "So don’t dwell on the ifs."

Jian Ci didn’t respond. He tilted his head up, his lips finding the column of Yu Xi’s throat. He kissed the skin there, a soft press, then another, his mouth trailing a slow, burning path up the straining tendon of his neck, over the sharp line of his jaw, across the stubbled plane of his cheek. Each kiss was a brand, a claim. Yu Xi groaned, a low, helpless sound that vibrated through Jian Ci’s own chest.

When their lips finally t, it was Jian Ci who closed the last milliter. He kissed him softly, the kiss a brush, a small taste. "Promise ," he breathed against Yu Xi’s mouth, stealing the words between one kiss and the next. "Promise you won’t... think of dying again."

Yu Xi’s breath shuddered. "I promise."

The words were barely out before Jian Ci took his mouth again. This ti, there was nothing soft about it.

It was rough, possessive, a deep, devouring kiss that spoke of a terror so profound it had turned to desperate hunger. The sound of their lips smacking together, wet and urgent, filled the quiet room. Jian Ci’s tongue swept into Yu Xi’s mouth, tangling with his, claiming every inch.

While kissing him like he was trying to consu him, Jian Ci rocked his hips forward, grinding the hard, confined length of himself against Yu Xi’s thigh. The friction was maddening, the fabric of his pants tight and hot. Yu Xi gasped into the kiss, his own hips jerking in response.

"Ci," Yu Xi whispered, the na a broken prayer as Jian Ci’s hips dipped again, rubbing against him, the heat between them intensifying to a fever pitch.

Jian Ci broke the kiss to bite Yu Xi’s earlobe, a sharp, delicious sting. "Call like you called before," he breathed, his voice dark with want.

Yu Xi’s face flushed a deeper red, heat spreading down his neck. "How did you even know what I called you?"

A smirk touched Jian Ci’s swollen lips, his canine tooth glinting. "I rember everything you said to ." He kissed the shell of Yu Xi’s ear, his tongue tracing the edge. "I rember everything we did together." He moved to Yu Xi’s cheek, kissing it before biting down lightly, making Yu Xi gasp, his fingers tightening in Jian Ci’s hair. "I rember all that dirty talk you whispered to ." His mouth traveled to Yu Xi’s Adam’s apple, and he bit it, not hard, but with enough pressure to make Yu Xi’s head fall back, his throat exposed, his Adam’s apple bobbing as he swallowed.

"Since when?" Yu Xi managed to ask, his voice strained.

Jian Ci pulled back just enough to look him in the eyes, his own gaze hot and unguarded. "When you guided last ti, I regained consciousness while I was thrusting inside of you."

Yu Xi swore, "Fuck," the word bursting out of him in a wave of pure, hot embarrassnt.

Jian Ci chuckled, the sound rich and wicked. "I thought I was dreaming and took advantage of it. But I soon realized it felt too good to be a dream."

Yu Xi covered his face with his hands, the heat in his cheeks unbearable. Of all the ways for Jian Ci to have discovered the things they had done while he was lost in his ntal collapse, this was the most brutally intimate, the most embarrassing.

Jian Ci was still laughing softly as he pried Yu Xi’s hands away from his face. "If I hadn’t passed out," he said, his thumb stroking Yu Xi’s burning cheek, "I would have gone for another round. I would have fucked you until neither of us could walk."

Yu Xi grabbed the nearest pillow and hit him with it, a weak, flustered swing. "Shut up," he muttered, but a shy, helpless smile was tugging at his lips.

Jian Ci caught the pillow and tossed it aside, his laughter fading into sothing more intense, more focused. "What? It was like a pie had fallen from the sky." Jian Ci’s whisper hung in the air, a hot, humid promise against Yu Xi’s ear. "How could I not take a bite?"
