North American Detective: I am Proficient in All Kinds of Gun Quick Draws Chapter 619 346 Fierce1
Late at night, in a 24-hour diner.
The apple-faced female agent, who was yawning, widened her eyes. "Your colleague was taken away by SWAT?"
Dean nodded. "Yes. Have you received any related news at the Field Office?"
Leia shook her head, her arched eyebrows rising high as she said in a solemn tone, "I've been at the Field Office all day investigating the financial transactions of that Chinese pharmaceutical company. Nobody inford about this."
SWAT—Special Weapons and Tactics—is also known as the Urban Ard Counter-Terrorism Unit. It's part of the FBI's Operations Division. Under normal circumstances, without an order from headquarters, they are under the jurisdiction of the local FBI Field Office director and serve as the FBI's muscle.
Such a highly trained team definitely needs to report before any operation. But Leia hadn't heard any relevant information. This made her realize the seriousness of the situation.
Seeing her looking perplexed, Dean gently prompted, "Agent Leia, could it be that SWAT hasn't coordinated with your supervisor yet because you only recently arrived?"
"Impossible!" Leia flatly denied Dean's suggestion. "As soon as Supervisor Kas arrived at the Field Office, he t with the captain of the Los Angeles SWAT. Unless Kas himself is aware of this, there must be a problem with SWAT."
She finally snapped out of it, walked to a corner, took out her cellphone, and dialed Supervisor Kas's number.
A mont later, Leia returned to her seat across from Dean, her expression grave.
"One piece of good news, and one piece of bad news.
"The good news is that with the doctor's help, Supervisor Kas has regained his mobility.
"He said he will return to the Los Angeles FBI Field Office as soon as possible and will provide us with higher-level intelligence support from there.
"The bad news is, Supervisor Kas told that SWAT has actually been out of control for so ti now.
"Several SWAT teams are secretly taking orders from Saul.
"Supervisor Kas had previously spoken with the SWAT captain. The captain indicated that they would wait for Supervisor Kas to restabilize the Field Office before he and his team mbers would leave to join the City Response Group that Saul is providing.
"So, Supervisor Kas will also find it very difficult to intervene and ask about your female colleague."
"Saul?" Dean was taken aback for a mont, then a smile touched his lips. "You an Saul, the current Mayor of Los Angeles?"
Leia nodded. "Yes, that's him. Dean, you should know, the powerful family behind Saul isn't soone our small Field Office can afford to provoke. And Supervisor Kas isn't going to risk alienating several SWAT teams just for you."
Dean nodded, lost in thought. Saul's move is indeed ruthless.
The City Response Group, where Carlo used to work, was an affiliated organization, similar to auxiliary police or urban bounty hunters. Its mbers were typically retired veterans who could be equipped and deployed as needed. In reality, the purpose of this departnt, established by the governnt, was to counterbalance and supplent the city's police forces. It often went unused, but when the need arose, it was an indispensable, all-purpose solution.
That's the current situation. While SWAT is nominally under FBI jurisdiction, its mbers aren't career military personnel, so resigning isn't illegal. If mbers choose to leave, even the head of an FBI Field Office is powerless.
That's why Leia said her supervisor and partner, Kas, was in a difficult position. He wanted to intervene but didn't dare, and reporting the situation to headquarters would only expose his own perceived incompetence. Consequently, he was forced to maintain a superficial sense of order.
Dean sighed. I have no fondness for Saul, the politician who tricked once before. My original plan was to deal with the family behind the Lucifer Organization first, then find an opportunity to handle Saul. Unfortunately, the guy is clueless and has stumbled into my path again. It seems that after this case is resolved, I'll have to deal with that ddling Saul as soon as possible.
Leia, seeing Dean lost in thought, glanced at her wristwatch and decided to change the subject. "I suggest you focus on the case at hand for now. Supervisor Kas should be able to help with inquiries later."
Dean snapped back to reality, nodded, and briefly shared his new findings. "The killer is very cruel. I suspect he'll strike again, so we must find him as soon as possible."
Hearing Dean's new lead, a smile appeared on Leia's face. "The Muscle-Rigidity Agent and K-Agent are both controlled substances. The known drug dealers operating out there are already under surveillance by our intelligence team. If we can find out who's shipping large quantities, we should be able to identify the killer quickly."
"It's not certain. We need to investigate first."
"Okay, I'll have soone look into it as soon as I get back. By the way, while investigating the financial transactions of the Chinese pharmaceutical company, I uncovered sothing very suspicious..." Leia then relayed Daisy's earlier findings, clearly hoping for so credit.
"I thoroughly investigated the financial records of the legal representative of Eden Consulting Company and several individuals connected to them. I found that they're likely involved in a pimping operation, similar to the lawyer and students who died previously.
"Their main targets seem to be international students at several universities in Los Angeles.
"This could be the motive for the killer's revenge.
"Perhaps a relative of the killer ca here to study and was targeted by these scoundrels. An accident occurred in the process, leading the killer to investigate and seek retribution."
Dean nodded. "This aligns with our hypothesis. I plan to go with Lawrence to the schools to investigate lists of international students who have gone missing or encountered accidents recently. You'll be in charge of investigating the drug distribution channels. When we cross-reference our information, we should make so progress."
