Nelson had not expected Jimmy to bring up a sudden disappearance right off the bat. He stared at Jimmy, wide-eyed and speechless.
Jimmy waited for a mont, realized that Nelson had no intention of speaking, and did not wait any longer. He stepped forward, kicked Nelson in the chest, causing him to fall abruptly from the chair and crash to the ground, emitting a cry of "Ah!"
Jimmy didn't move to help him up but stood still, looking down at him: "Are you doubting my capabilities?"
Nelson struggled to sit up but received another kick from Jimmy. Jimmy did not kick him in a sensitive spot; this was an upscale community where a loud noise could cause unnecessary trouble.
Jimmy said, "It seems you indeed are doubting , no matter. Everyone must be accountable for their decisions."
Jimmy walked to the window, lifted the curtain to look outside, where many lawn lights were still on, offering decent visibility although there were no passing vehicles or pedestrians. He then turned, bent down, and pulled Nelson up by the arm to sit him back on the chair. Nelson seed to breathe a sigh of relief and his breathing slowly returned to normal.
Jimmy raised his fist and struck Nelson on the head from the side. Nelson, who fell again, did not have it so easy this ti and rely grunted "ah" briefly before falling silent.
Jimmy checked his breathing and felt his carotid artery to ensure there were no problems before starting to clean up. He took a bag from nearby and gathered Nelson's phone, wallet, gun, dagger, binoculars, and slung them over his shoulder. He then pulled Nelson up and, carrying him, dragged him out of the bedroom and downstairs.
Upon reaching the main door, Jimmy first looked left and right, then took Nelson outside, shutting the door behind them. He helped him into his car and placed him in the back seat, then drove out of the community.
Although Jimmy had left Little Rock two or three years ago, aside from so major cities, there isn't much change in the developnt in the cities of the United States, so Jimmy wasn't worried about going to the wrong place.
He drove to West Suburb, where there was a cluster of abandoned factories. At least, during his year of patrolling here, the site had remained deserted. Jimmy directly drove into the abandoned factory and inside a dilapidated room, he dumped Nelson on the ground.
He had already checked; Nelson's breathing and pulse were normal, just waiting for him to awaken.
Soon, Nelson ca to. Jimmy stood nearby, smoking a cigarette as Nelson shook his head and surveyed his surroundings. Jimmy's car lights were on, and though the light wasn't bright, it was enough to reveal the dismal setting.
Watching Nelson struggle to sit up, Jimmy took the cigarette from the corner of his mouth, "Now, do you have anything to say?"
Nelson took a couple of deep breaths, "I give up. Since we're both colleagues, let's talk this out and let go."
Jimmy said, "That depends on what you have to say."
Nelson said, "Soone asked to look into sothing concerning you."
Jimmy waited a few seconds, then gestured with his hand: "Continue."
Nelson said, "Soone from DC tasked to check on your situation, when you joined the county police, and your work during the ti you were there. Also, to verify the earlier incidents ntioned in your files."
Jimmy asked, "Did you go to Jas?"
Nelson nodded. "Yes, the main focus of this investigation is county police, so I went to Jas. However, he did not disclose anything. Your records are complete, the police academy has data, but there are no photos of you among the graduates for that period. Additionally, the State Police also only have records; I asked several, and they don't have any Asian colleagues. These are all unusual occurrences."
Jimmy said, "The most important question, who sent you."
Nelson said, "Nick Sullivan, a middleman. I owe him a favor, so I had to co from DC."
Jimmy asked, "Who's behind him?"
Nelson said, "Christian Greg, a DHS consultant, forr CIA Deputy Director."
Jimmy said, "Why would he investigate ?"
Nelson said, "I don't know the reason, only that I couldn't refuse their request, so I had to co."
Jimmy said, "I think, you aren't from the agency, are you? Langley?"
Nelson remained silent, and Jimmy continued, "You think I couldn't find out? You've seen my records."
Nelson nodded. "I certainly am from the agency, though I had previously worked at Langley for a while."
Jimmy said, "So he asked you to investigate , right? After all, we are colleagues, and you won't be exposed. Smart move, buddy. Tell , what did you find out? What will they do with this kind of investigation result?"
Nelson said, "There's nothing special, you don't have any particular relationships here, and their request was to find your closest people—friends, colleagues, girlfriends, and the like."
When Jimmy heard this, it blew his mind. The aning was clear enough. Christian Greg, Tom had ntioned this man before, and his entire family were suspected to be his victims. Now coming to investigate Jimmy ant he wasn't planning to let Jimmy go.
Jimmy said, "I'll conduct my own investigation; I hope you're not lying. Now, what should I do with you?"
Nelson said, "We're both colleagues, let go. I won't pursue the investigation any further. I'll head back to DC imdiately, or I might disappear for a while. No one will be able to find ."
Jimmy said nothing, just stared at Nelson.
Nelson beca anxious, "Co on, buddy, I haven't done anything, haven't leaked any information. Sullivan and Greg don't know anything. I haven't said anything."
