Jimmy had co to this building for the first ti. He had passed by it many tis before and had always found it completely out of harmony with its surroundings. The building looked more like a fortress; with no windows and only huge ventilation holes, it appeared rugged, powerful, and impregnable.
Before this visit, Jimmy had tried to look up information about the building, but all he could find was that it belonged to AT&T and had initially been used as a telephone switchboard station. In the early days, telephone calls needed to be manually connected. To ensure safety, the building was designed without windows to withstand hurricanes.
As the telephone system improved and the world entered the digital age, telephone switch stations beca obsolete, and the building lost its original function. Ownership remained with AT&T, but it was leased out, unfortunately no further information was available.
This ti, Chris brought Jimmy here, making it clear who had rented this fortress—NSA, the United States National Security Bureau.
With Chris leading, Jimmy entered the building through the main entrance. Despite the lack of windows, the interior was well-lit; of course, Jimmy's sharp eyes spotted many cara-like devices in the lobby at a glance. Since he only glanced quickly, he couldn't be sure. This wasn't a place for casual visits, and if one didn't want trouble, it was best to behave.
After consulting at the reception, a man ca out and led them to a small eting room on the first floor—they didn't enter the core area of the building.
After a while, another man in a suit ca over, shook hands with Chris, and then took Jimmy's phone before leaving.
So more ti passed before soone finally ca to the eting room to receive Chris and Jimmy.
"Hi, I'm Benjamin Patterson." Benjamin entered the room, shook hands with Chris and Jimmy, took two bottles of mineral water from a cabinet, handed them to Chris and Jimmy, and then sat down across the small table.
"Hi, Chris, this is Jimmy. This is our case." Chris introduced briefly and then pushed the file on the table towards him.
Chris: "Jimmy, please brief us on the case."
Jimmy: "Alright." Benjamin had already opened the file, but Jimmy only started discussing the case when he saw the photos in Benjamin's hand: "The case was initially classified as an accident. Investigative reporter Ashi Perino made a mistake driving out of the parking garage from the fourth floor and fell to the third floor. Due to the car flipping, Ashi's neck was twisted, leading to his death.
However, after reviewing the on-site photos, we found a dent in the rear bumper of Ashi's car. Additionally, information provided by NYPD stated that there were no items like notebooks among Ashi's personal belongings, hence we suspect that Ashi might not have died from an accident but was intentionally hit off the fourth floor.
I went to the residence Ashi had registered in the system and t his girlfriend Jinnie in his apartnt. Through certain thods, I obtained two pieces of information from Jinnie. First, Ashi always carried items like his laptop, voice recorder, and notebooks during his trips, and none of these were found at the scene of his death.
Second, Ashi had left behind a notebook when he left ho last ti. We obtained that notebook, which appeared to contain interview notes. There weren't many complete sentences, just so mo-type information, but the notes included extensive information about fertilizer, special equipnt, etc.
Based on these records in the notebook, Ashi's death doesn't seem simple. These materials and equipnt could be used to assemble a massive bomb, and it's not out of the question that in so people's hands, they could be used to create special gases to cause greater disasters.
The investigation has just begun, these are the clues and deductions we have so far."
When Jimmy finished, Benjamin was still flipping through the file, but his nods indicated he was listening to Jimmy's description.
Chris added: "We indeed have few clues right now, but the potential implications of this case are too severe, so I am requesting your help in accessing the information and the previous call records from investigative reporter Ashi's phone."
Benjamin did not respond but continued to look through the photos and descriptions in the file. The ten or so minutes passed very slowly for Jimmy. He felt uncomfortable and looked around the room. There were hidden caras in three of the four corners of the eting room, with the only exception being above the door. It was clear that as soon as they had entered the building, they had been under complete surveillance.
Jimmy had already spotted several fully ard security personnel in the back who hadn't been visible outside, suggesting they were all hidden to make the outside appear more normal.
Such a formidable defense force and comprehensive surveillance setup, combined with the globally monitoring NSA, seed almost acceptable since that was their mandate.
Of course, this also ant that any ideas Jimmy had of settling them were completely dashed; he had no chance of leaving this small eting room.
Benjamin closed the file, looked at Chris, and said, "I understand the situation now, it's crucial to investigate further. I'll step out for a mont; please wait here."
