Back in the office, he went over to Peter's side. It had been a while since he'd chatted with them. It was always a rush in and a rush out, too utilitarian.

Jimmy approached Peter's area: "Hey, Jones, how have you been lately?"

Jones looked up at Jimmy, stood up, and hugged him, "Not bad, I heard you pulled off another big one? Did you nail it?"

Jimmy laughed, "What big one? It's already handled, and here I am at work. By the way, where's Diana?"

Jones widened his eyes, "You don't know?"

Jimmy blinked, looking puzzled at Jones, "Know what?"

Jones turned his head and glanced at Peter's office upstairs, "Diana has been transferred to the DC headquarters, it's been a while now."

Jimmy: "Oh, she got promoted? I didn't get the chance to congratulate her."

Jones with a grimace: "She's gone, and now all the day-to-day work has fallen on . I'm the one who's really got it bad."

Jimmy chuckled and patted Jones on the arm, "The capable take on more work. I couldn't even score a chance to write a case report before. So, what are you busy with lately?"

Jones: "That you'll have to ask Peter; he's upstairs."

Jimmy: "Alright then, I'll go up and have a chat with him. Got so free ti lately."

As Jimmy was about to go upstairs, Peter ca out of his office carrying his suit jacket, "Neil, Jones, let's go."

Seeing Jimmy on his way up, he paused, "Jimmy, anything you need?"

Jimmy shook his head, smiling at Peter, "Just ca to see how you guys are doing. Go ahead with the case."

Peter nodded, "We'll talk later." Then he headed downstairs with Jones and Neil to the elevator. They didn't say what the case was about, so naturally, it had nothing to do with Jimmy. He turned around and went back to his office, this ti not to look at files but to daydream.

Hughes, with his door ajar, overheard the conversation between Peter and Jimmy. Watching Jimmy go downstairs, he also pondered Jimmy's prospects.

Previously, placing him with Chris was ant to expose him to more cases to refine his character and let the impact of his past cases fade, but it didn't seem to be working very well.

Chris had reported back an observation: although Jimmy always seed to smile harmlessly, right after he had gunned down the shooter at the school last week, Jimmy's expression seed more genuine than usual, radiating a heartfelt happiness. By comparison, his usual deanor seed almost rehearsed. As it turns out, Jimmy seed to genuinely relish the thrill of punishing the wicked.

Jimmy was also excellent at handling cases. With very little help from Chris's side, he was able to smoothely acquire leads and follow up on them. It was partly luck, but it also proved his capabilities, which was also confird by feedback from Lambert. It seed like a waste to relegate him to murder, a departnt with few cases, for ergency support.

Ruiz was still keen on having Jimmy transferred to his departnt to handle gang-related cri cases. With Jimmy's thods, it probably wouldn't be long before a lot of gang mbers started to behave.

If it weren't for the fact that the 1V7 encounter resulted in so unpleasantness with the OPR and Prosecutor's Office, getting him back with Ruiz would have been an option. They knew each other well and worked together without issues, but it wasn't the right ti now. Just to appease Ruiz, Jimmy couldn't be subjected to scrutiny by certain individuals.

Figuring out how to handle Jimmy had beco a big headache for Hughes. Of course, this concern was also because he saw potential in Jimmy. If he were an agent without promise, Hughes wouldn't bother mulling over it. What's the point, for an old man close to retirent? But Peter, his chosen successor, wasn't fully matured yet, it wasn't ti for Hughes to let go completely.

Hughes sighed, picked up a file from the side, and started browsing. Being the boss was not easy.
