After finishing his talk with William, Jimmy turned around and left the ward, saying to the detectives outside, "I've finished questioning, keep an eye on them, goodbye, guys."
Jimmy left the ward area, took out his phone, and dialed Cage, "Cage, arrange for two more people to guard Jas at the hospital, ensure his safety."
Cage, "What information did you get?"
Jimmy, "Not sure yet, just send soone over. I'm heading to the hospital right now."
After hanging up the phone, Jimmy drove off, heading for the hospital where Jas was staying. If the CIA action team confird that Jas was still alive, they would likely strike again, damn it, why hadn't he thought of this over the past few days?
He'd been so focused on finding the shooter that he'd forgotten that if their target, Jas, wasn't dead, the shooter would surely try again. He hoped it wasn't too late.
When he arrived at Jas's ward, Cage had already arrived. Seeing Jimmy, Cage pulled him aside into a fire escape and asked, "What the hell is going on? Why did you ask to send more people here?"
Jimmy, "Today, when I was interrogating them at the FBI, I suddenly thought of sothing. Since the shooter failed the first assassination attempt and Jas is still alive, he might try to kill Jas again soon. That's why I had you send people over, and I'll be here more often in the next two days."
Cage, "Is it just a suspicion?"
Jimmy, "Yeah, we're not assassins, we don't know their thods. But if their assassination target isn't dead, they'll definitely make another move. We can only wait for them to show up."
Cage, "We're short on manpower. It's already tight just arranging two people on rotation."
Jimmy, "Alright then, you go back and bring a set of walkie-talkies. I'll co and watch when I have ti."
Cage nodded his head, "The walkie-talkies are no problem. I'll get them for you later."
The two left the fire escape and returned outside Jas's ward. The duty officer today was Jimmy's friend, Jack, who used to be in the South District substation when Jimmy was there, and now he was back at the headquarters.
Jimmy greeted Jack and then left for a while, as Cage had to go back and bring him the walkie-talkies, and he needed to briefly check the terrain and passageways next to Jas's ward to be prepared, lest there be a mishap at the crucial mont.
"Whoosh," a noise of sothing falling to the ground ca from behind Jimmy. "Sorry," a brawny doctor two ters tall bent down to help a nurse who had been knocked over, her clipboard and other items scattered on the ground.
That doctor was truly built like an ox, probably spending all his free ti in the gym. Jimmy worked out regularly but compared to that doctor, he looked like a sprout.
Jimmy continued forward, observing the rooms and corridors, Heart Eye was really handy for this type of reconnaissance. After checking the entire floor, Jimmy returned to Jas's ward, greeted Jack, and knocked before entering the ward.
Jimmy, "Mrs. Baldwin, how is Jas feeling now?"
Mrs. Baldwin was holding a bag of liquid nutrition, with a tube inserted into Jas's mouth, he was slowly sipping it. Hearing Jimmy's voice, she didn't look up. "Yeah, much better, not as painful today."
Jimmy stood by, watching Jas finish a bag of nutrition. Mrs. Baldwin cleaned up a bit, went to the inner room to wash her hands, and then ca out.
Mrs. Baldwin, "Jimmy, why are you still here? Don't you need to return to New York as soon as possible?"
Jimmy, "Ah, Mrs. Baldwin, I still have so vacation ti, and I'm taking the opportunity to investigate a bit here."
Mrs. Baldwin shook her head, "Although I don't know the arrangents at the FBI, but as a newcor, you couldn't possibly get that much holiday ti. Jimmy, please don't neglect your life."
Indeed, Jas and his wife were really kind. During the two or three tis he'd visited over the past few days, Jimmy hadn't seen anyone else visit Jas. If he didn't know that Jas had a son, he might have thought that Jas had no family. But why hadn't his son appeared?
Getting sidetracked, a bit off-topic, Jimmy replied, "It's nothing, Mrs. Baldwin, I have a week of vacation, and I still have so ti. It should be enough."
Mrs. Baldwin, "I understand, but leave the matters here to Cage and the others. Go back and rest a bit, you don't look too well."
Jimmy, "Really, it's no problem. I'll only stay another two days, then I have to go back. Don't worry. I'll take my leave now."
Jimmy didn't want to keep harping on the sa issue, so he turned and left the ward. Jack was sitting outside the ward, looking around at the people and was near an open newspaper.
"Jack, any irregularities?" Jimmy asked Jack.
Jack, "Nothing. There aren't many patients here, and not too many doctors and nurses either. It's all good."
Jimmy, "Okay, I'll be leaving. When Cage delivers the walkie-talkies, hold on to them for ."
Jack, "Sure, don't worry."
Jimmy left the hospital and went back to his hotel. He needed to rest up, before taking a shift at the hospital.
The main thread of the case was now pretty much established. A CIA action team's assassin, Burke, was ordered to kill Jas by soone nad Watson, who also arranged for a forr CIA informant, William, to provide information to the assassin, Burke.
Jas was lucky, he was shot three tis while driving but was saved by the hospital after passers-by called for help. Now, it all hinged on whether or not the CIA action team would continue their investigation. As long as they knew that Jas was still alive, they would probably continue with the assassination.
