Dave is under trendous pressure; if he doesn't handle this carefully, the losses might not just be a capable agent, and it's not out of the question that it could lead to an unacceptable situation that no one can tolerate. Jimmy is not the kind of person to swallow his pride. He hasn't made any demands before because he isn't the type who seeks to climb the ranks, but if you think he would accept any pressure forced upon him, you'd be gravely mistaken.
Then there's that damn background. Who exactly is behind him is still unclear. Only reliable people can investigate the CIA's insider information, and such people are precisely what Dave lacks on his side.
However, it's not entirely impossible to continue the investigation. The Defense Intelligence Bureau, under the Ministry of Defense, is very independent. In the military system, as long as you know the higher-ups, there's a lot you can do. Information on David Clinton isn't hard to find, and they quickly connected through an interdiary.
David Clinton didn't have a deep impression of Jimmy, but upon recalling the engagent ceremony he attended a couple of years ago, he imdiately paused the connection and quickly reported that soone was contacting him to Deputy Director Andrew, who was also a war buddy and colleague in title of Jimmy's nominal grandfather, and had t with Jimmy at Mrs. Valds' forest cabin.
Even if not famous, the DIA is only not well-known to the public. As one of the major intelligence agencies of the United States, it's very sensitive to anyone investigating them. Andrew imdiately arranged for an investigation.
So matters simply can't withstand scrutiny, especially by a public federal agency like the FBI. Once they found out that the inquiry into Clinton was prompted by Jimmy's engagent, they had already identified a target for counter-investigation, and Jimmy's recent situation was reported up.
Andrew has a fiery temper; even in the intelligence business, he can't hide his nature. Seeing the updated information on Jimmy and his recent treatnt, his anger flared up imdiately. He had only initially inquired about Jimmy's information as a concern for the last of his old friend's bloodline, and hadn't looked into it further since. After all, with Mrs. Valds overseeing things, nothing much should go wrong. But now here it is?
The old man's temper, though fiery, did not lead him to do anything rash. He waved David off before pulling out his phone to call Mrs. Valds. So matters still needed her attention after all; previously, he had not been involved in Jimmy's life, and it was a bit excessive to overstep his boundaries.
Mrs. Valds certainly understood Jimmy's predicant and agreed to et with Andrew at her place. They kept their conversation short; if not for the close distance, there wouldn't have been any need to et, given one was of high rank and the other faced mobility challenges. Such spontaneous actions always made coordinating ti and personnel difficult.
Dave and his wife Lucy were having dinner at ho. For soone in his position, if he wanted to, he could find reason to be out for als almost the entire year, with plenty of people and organizations willing to invite him to evening events. But recently, he hadn't been in the mood, so he had scaled back a lot of social activities.
It was during this ti that David rang the doorbell. After the servant let him in, he politely announced his na, hoping to speak with Dave. Dressed in military uniform, David evidently had no intention of hiding his identity. When Dave ca to the door to invite him in to talk, he was declined.
David ca by to deliver a few words to Dave: stop contacting the DIA, stop investigating David, and most importantly, stop investigating Jimmy.
Very simple, very direct, very effective. Because they belong to different systems, David had no reason to engage in pleasantries with Dave. After relaying Andrew's words, he turned and left imdiately, leaving Dave's face once again looking grim. He abandoned the rest of his dinner, sitting alone on the couch in a daze.
Things had spiraled out of control, completely out of control. Earlier, there was so room for luck because of Kevin, Jimmy's father-in-law. Dave wasn't entirely sure if the people who attended the engagent and wedding ceremonies were connected to Jimmy or Kevin. But now, David's appearance had completely shattered that illusion. It was clear that David Clinton, soone from the DIA, was there on behalf of so high-ranking official at Jimmy's engagent ceremony, as part of Jimmy's network.
Kevin, as the NYPD Commissioner, naturally had a vast network; this was understandable. Here in New York, although it doesn't have the political atmosphere of Washington D.C., most power forces have a foothold here. Given his local power status, it's unsurprising that Kevin knows a lot of people. This used to be Dave's thinking. Now it seems, that was completely wrong.
The web of people and forces around Jimmy keeps growing, and continuing the investigation like this isn't a solution. It might be ti to have a proper conversation with certain people.

Ti flew by. Roland had already procured the supplies for this return trip. Given the current situation, Jimmy specifically asked him to buy extra, delaying the next return trip to avoid frequent back and forth raising suspicions.
Roland wasn't concerned about the internal issues of the FBI, but he readily agreed to Jimmy's request. Ever since he noticed that surveillance vehicle, Jimmy had completely changed, losing all of his previous laziness. It was clear that there were many complex issues at play here. Roland knew he couldn't get involved in such matters; he could only try to minimize trouble.
