Jimmy never expected that coming to handle the case closure process would cause so much chaos. He's not the type to seek the lilight. The so-called typical headquarters case must be made public, and the content disclosed will be more than that of other usual cases. It's seen as a departntal publicity task, solving a significant case of the year, and doing so PR for the FBI in the dia.
Now, the only hope is that other cases can distract their attention. Jimmy has no way to change the arrangents at headquarters.
In this kidnapping case, they didn't rescue many people, and it involved multiple locations, arresting several gangs. From the perspective of results, it's enough to be a typical case. But publicity requires disclosure of the main personnel or leaders of the case, which isn't a good thing for Jimmy.
morizing a complete report isn't difficult for Jimmy, especially since he handled the case. Adjusting the descriptions in the report is no big deal. He had lunch with Peter and Hope and quickly returned to the office to wait for the afternoon hearing.
Peter walked in from outside the office: "I have news that I'm not sure is good or bad. The afternoon hearing has been delayed by two hours, but a senior managent mber, Deputy Director Michael Roberts, will attend."
Jimmy and Hope were a bit dumbfounded. What's happening? Why suddenly change the level of the eting?
During lunch, Peter ntioned that this hearing was just a query and discussion of the case by the various departnts at headquarters. Jimmy: "Why?"
Peter: "Not sure, I just got notified of the delay. Deputy Director Roberts went to the Judicial Departnt and will be back late."
Jimmy: "About this Deputy Director Roberts..."
Peter: "I'm not very familiar with him, but he isn't a career bureaucrat. He used to be a senior field agent with over 25 years of law enforcent experience and has extensive expertise in counter-terrorism, cybercri, and human trafficking."
Jimmy: "So this case happens to fall under the Deputy Director's area of expertise?"
Peter nodded, and the three were speechless. That's troubleso; he's a professional. Even though he's now a Deputy Director and no longer handles fieldwork, his experience is vast, so if they wanted to make any minor changes to the report, it would be challenging. They'll have to handle it as it cos.
Each poured a cup of sugarless coffee to boost their spirits and continued preparing the eting materials. Upon receiving notification, the three of them went to a large conference room together.
The attendees were already in place, but since this eting wasn't for external publicity, there were no naplates in front of anyone.
Peter sat opposite, while Jimmy and Hope sat to one side. A eting host then introduced everyone present, and the highest-ranking was Deputy Director Michael Roberts. The other departnts were the previously ntioned relevant ones, and indeed the eting level was much higher.
After introducing Jimmy and Hope, Roberts spoke first: "Borke (Peter), I have a question. Why does this investigation team only have these two senior agents?"
Peter: "Deputy Director Roberts, this kidnapping and trafficking case was triggered by another case involving a missing agent. Two agents from the Washington office disappeared while investigating the case. After two days of fruitless searching there, headquarters intervened and temporarily seconded Agent Jimmy Yang from the New York office to assist.
Agent Jimmy Yang handled the homicide squad at the New York office and was once my subordinate. His homicide case-solving rate reached about 90%, making him a very professional homicide investigation expert."
Having said that, Peter handed a copy of Jimmy's file to Deputy Director Roberts and continued, "The mastermind of the missing case has been captured, and the bodies of the two agents have been found. During the investigation, the mastermind's cousin was discovered to have imprisoned a young girl at ho, which led to further investigation into the girl's kidnapping and imprisonnt."
The conference room was much quieter. Roberts browsed through Jimmy's file, his expression unchanged, but his eyelids twitched a few tis, likely seeing so of the kill records in Jimmy's file. He placed the file on the table and nodded, "Then let's begin."
First, Hope, as one of the main investigators, presented the case investigation process. The related report had been sent to everyone present, and they listened while reviewing the report, quickly concluding the presentation.
Hope's report was a polished version. Most of it was normal, but so details were hidden in certain parts, like when he lost his gun...
