Beside her, Ella Turner observed Maya Spencer, full of worries and gloom, and cautiously poked her with a finger, asking, "Maya, what exactly happened with you and the principal? You were fine yesterday."
"Ah?" Maya was startled by Ella’s question.
"I’m asking what happened between you and the principal?"
"Nothing!" Maya pulled up a forced smile at the corner of her mouth, pretending that nothing was wrong.
She wanted to forget everything that happened today, Jas Bennett’s identity, Liam Spencer’s deceit, but despite the chaos in her mind, she still couldn’t forget it all.
Seeing Maya keeping sothing from her, Ella pouted and unhappily asked, "Maya, is there anything we can’t share between us?"
Listening to Ella’s words, Maya took a deep breath, turned to look at her, and said seriously, "Jas is my dad. Liam has known for a long ti but didn’t tell . Today, at Jas’ house, I pushed him down the stairs. Maybe he’ll never wake up again."
Maya summarized the situation in a few words, yet Ella was dumbfounded, her eyes wide open, seemingly shocked. Chairman Bennett turned out to be Maya’s father—this revelation was so sudden that Ella found it hard to digest, but finally understood why Maya was at odds with Liam, realizing it was because Liam had deceived her.
After a round of explanation, the two girls quieted down. Ella sat beside Maya, dazed for quite a while, before slowly speaking up for Liam.
She said, "Maya, the principal is surely worried about you, which is why he kept it from you, and he just said he would handle the hospital matters; Elijah said he went to find a doctor, so it’s probably for this matter. You don’t have to worry."
"My head hurts, and I don’t want to talk about it." Right now, Maya wasn’t concerned about her relationship with Liam; instead, she was more worried about Jas’ injuries.
She was scared, scared that Jas would really never wake up. If that were the case, what would she do? How would she live the rest of her life?
Ultimately, Maya felt guilty, scared, still worried about Jas, even though she wouldn’t admit it.
The fact that Jas was her father was sothing she couldn’t change. No matter how much she loathed this father, she wasn’t to the point of taking his life with her own hands; she just didn’t want to deal with him, just punishing him in this way.
Seeing she didn’t want to talk about today’s events, Ella realized her mind was too muddled, so she stopped persuading her and simply held her gently, quietly accompanying her.
In the apartnt, the two girls stared blankly, lying on the bed keeping each other company. Liam did not co to disturb Maya again, giving her enough space to calm down.
Even though she was worried about Jas, Maya didn’t have the courage to visit him in the hospital. Instead, she was anxiously stuck at ho, praying silently for his safety.
After two days of cooling down, Maya didn’t hate Jas as much. She realized that the man had never married all his life. She’d heard his story before, knowing he had always had a girl in his heart, and that girl was her mother.
So, he never settled for getting married and having children; instead, he waited all his life.
At this ti, Maya reflected that perhaps she had been too impulsive, maybe she really owed Jas an opportunity to explain, to explain why he didn’t take responsibility for her mom. Since he could be alone all his life, how could he be afraid to take this responsibility?
When Maya thought of this, her eyes beca red involuntarily. She rembered Jas’ excitent when cooking for her, his gaze on her, and how he personally made a writing brush for her. All he did was not just out of love for her but was also for love for her mother.
Thinking of her impulsiveness, Maya curled up into a ball, turned her back to Ella, and cried silently.
Even though she tried to suppress her emotions so that she wouldn’t cry out loud, her trembling body was still noticed by Ella.
In the pitch-black bedroom, the two girls didn’t turn on the lights. Ella, sensing Maya’s trembling body, felt heartache.
So, she quickly turned around and embraced her, comforting her tenderly, "Maya, don’t cry. The principal has been busy these past two days; he won’t abandon you, and Chairman Bennett will be fine."
Listening to Ella’s comfort, Maya suddenly broke into tears, her tears falling like rain from her eyes, crying uncontrollably.
Soon after, she abruptly turned around, holding Ella tightly, and sobbing uncontrollably: "Ella, I might have killed him, might have left him never to wake up again. I didn’t an to, I really didn’t an to."
Maya felt miserable. Jas had already been in a coma for 60 hours with no signs of waking up, which terrified her.
Liam said not to do sothing she’d regret, but at this mont, she was already regretting it, regretting not remaining calm, regretting pushing Jas.
But she didn’t have the courage to go to the hospital, no courage to face Jas. She was afraid that if she went, the doctors might announce sothing even worse, and she couldn’t face it.
Maya, in the end, was still cowardly, still cared about those closest to her, even if they had once wronged her.
These past two days, news from the hospital was always delivered by Elijah. Maya initially thought Jas just hit himself and would be fine but didn’t expect it to be so serious, serious beyond what she could bear.
Listening to Maya’s self-reproach, her heart-wrenching cries, Ella held her tightly, patting her back, holding back tears, comforting: "Maya, it won’t happen. The principal won’t let Chairman Bennett be hard. You have to trust the principal."
Listening to Ella ntion the principal, Maya’s tears fell more profusely. She had only said harsh words that day because she was in a bad mood. She thought Liam was just sulking, didn’t expect he really wouldn’t talk to her for two days.
By now, Maya no longer had the energy to be angry. She just felt aggrieved, the grievance was unbearably painful. She wanted to see Liam, wanted that man to comfort her, hold her, but he hadn’t co to find her.
She was heartbroken, heartbroken that Liam had abandoned her just like that.
If he really didn’t want her, how could soone as proud as she bow her head to reconcile?
For a mont, Maya’s mood plumted to the extre. In just a few days, she felt like she had nothing left.
In truth, it was rely that Liam hadn’t co to find her.
However, for Maya, Liam was her everything. The whole world could abandon her, but not Liam. That man opened her heart; how could he leave her behind?
Thinking about her current situation, the situation between herself and Liam, and how Jas was still in the hospital not waking up, her heart felt like it was being stabbed by nurous knives, causing her difficulty in breathing but leaving her powerless.
Seeing her crying so sorrowfully, Ella held her and cried together.
Thinking, if Jas really never woke up, what would Maya do?
