Wei Zhao… Jiang Cheng nodded. That should be the man. The identity and timing matched. As for the motive, it was clear. It was intended to conceal the truth in Room 624, to protect the hospital’s reputation and the sinful doctors. As the hospital director, he knew that if the truth were exposed, his livelihood would vanish.

“But… In that case, why would he save that woman?” Weiwei asked, “I an, save her child.” Wouldn’t it be easier to let the child die?

“Could it be that…” Yu Yu widened her eyes. “Was the director involved in the incident in Room 624?” The suspicion was shocking. Cao Yang ntioned the missing part in the files at the archive. The missing part may concern the director.

“No.” Jiang Cheng shook his head.

“Why not?”

“The ti of death doesn’t match.” Lin Wan ‘Er scanned everyone casually. “The three male staff died soon after the woman died. However, the old director did not.”

Everyone hesitated and said nothing. Lin Wan ‘Er had a point. When the director dropped Zhao Ru off at the orphanage, she was already half a year old. In other words, the old director lived for at least six months after the incident. The ghost didn’t kill him.

“Perhaps… The ghost didn’t kill him because she knew he had her child,” Yu Yu whispered. Since the forr director saved Zhao Ru and left a substantial sum of money with the orphanage, Zhao Ru harboured deep kindness. Maybe it was this kindness that saved him.

Jiang Cheng turned to Kui Yi. Since he found the director’s na, clearly he had looked into the man.

“He is dead.” Kui Yi admitted.

“When?”

“Two months ago,” Kui Yi answered. When Kui Yi ntioned Zhang Zhaowei, there was a trace of suspicion on his face, but he quickly covered it.

“But… We couldn’t find the cause of his death.” Cao Yang added, “We only heard that he died from an illness.”

Clearly, the travellers didn’t believe this. Coincidentally, Zhao Ru began an internship at this hospital one month ago. The ex-director died two months ago. In other words, two weeks after Zhang Zhaowei died, Zhao Ru appeared at this hospital. Was there a connection?

“Could it be that Zhang Zhaowei felt the prick of conscience before he died and told Zhao Ru everything?” Yu Yu probed. The girl’s idea was logical.

“If that’s the case, Zhao Ru’s hostility towards Director Qi makes sense!” Cao Yang exclaid, “He was a part of the incident in Room 624. The missing part is about Director Qi!” Director Qi was the one who managed to slip away.

Jiang Cheng frowned. He scratched his chin thoughtfully.

“Is there a problem?” Cao Yang noticed this and asked.

Jiang Cheng looked up. “But that doesn’t explain why the other male staff died, but Director Qi didn’t. In fact, even now, he is still alive.”

“But didn’t Director Qi ask us to protect him?” Wang Changguo shouted, “That ans that the ghost has been aning to kill him!”

Jiang Cheng turned to stare at Wang Changguo’s face, causing the latter to stagger back. “I didn’t say now.” His tone was even and cold. “I ant 18 years ago. How did he survive the ghost’s massacre 18 years ago?” At least so far, Jiang Cheng didn’t notice anything so special about Director Qi.

“No.” Kui Yi suddenly uttered, “He didn’t survive the massacre because the ghost never sought him out.”

“That’s right.” Jiang Cheng nodded. “And that’s the problem.”

After a long silence, Cao Yang looked at them and asked, “Should we capture Director Qi and ask him directly?” All the clues pointed to Director Qi, but the man refused to tell them anything. Cao Yang planned to brute force this.

“We haven’t reached that point yet.” Jiang Cheng sighed, “Let’s wait.”

“But we’ve found most of the clues!” Cao Yang looked agitated. Fear slowly wore away his patience.

“Two things.” Jiang Cheng began. “First, we need to figure out how Zhang Zhaowei really died.

“Second,” Jiang Cheng turned to Kui Yi. “Xiang Nan’s background.”

“I can understand looking into Zhang Zhaowei, but… haven’t we found out everything about Xiang Nan?” Weiwei asked.

“I an, before she was sent to this hospital. What really happened?” Jiang Cheng glanced at the door. “I suspect… There is sothing we still don’t know between him and Yi Zhenliang.”

Kui Yi lifted his head. “Leave Xiang Nan to . You can look for the other clues.”

“By the way.” Cao Yang rembered sothing and whispered, “Even though we failed to find Zhang Zhaowei’s cause of death, we know where his dead body is.” He pointed beneath him and shivered, “It’s at this hospital’s morgue.”

“Here?” Weiwei shivered as the chill ran up her spine.

“Yes.”

It had been two months since his death. It was abnormal to have the carcass not yet prepared for cremation or burial.

“Where are his children?” Jiang Cheng asked, “Is there a special arrangent?”

“He doesn’t have any family.” Cao Yang looked lost. “We asked and found out the director used to be an orphan.

“But he is unrelated to that orphanage,” Cao Yang quickly added to avoid misunderstanding. “When the old director was born, that orphanage hadn’t even co into business yet.”

“Could this be his will?” Lin Wan ‘Er massaged her temples.

“Do you an… The old hospital director put this in his will?” Yu Yu’s face paled. “To have his carcass preserved at the morgue?”

“But… Why?”

“As evidence.” Jiang Cheng stood up. “And maybe as penance.”
